Pet Urine Odours In Carpets - How To Get Rid Of Them
bernym posted a topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Has anyone had any success in permanently removing urine odours from carpets where pets have repeatedly soiled? We recently had our carpets cleaned and the cleaner said that the only way to get rid of the odours was to replace the underlay as the urine soaks through and although the smell might leave while it is dry, every time it becomes wet again the urine crystals will again release their odour. I have used a supermarket pet odour product on the carpet but it has only masked the smell and it now smells like a combination of urine/chemical cleaners. I have seen ads on the internet for different pet odour products and want to know if anyone has tried them with success before I part with $40+ to purchase them. One corner of our carpet, which is the worse affected, has had multiple cat urinations over recent months. Other parts of the carpet has had isolated dog urine. The cat urine odours are the worse. Is there anything that can be poured through the carpet into the underlay to remove these odours? Thanks -
That is not always the case. I had a rabbit that suffered from flystrike. The maggots ate away a section of skin and made burrows under the skin into the flesh. She could have literally been eaten alive. Once they are there, it takes quite an effort to keep them away, especially if the animal is already sick/old/unable to care for themselves. They do let out a terrible odour though, so you would think the owners would have noticed them in the dogs mouth.

Perhaps they should just publish the actual figures for the number of dog attacks per state, broken into dog-animal attacks and dog-people attacks and leave the mathematical equations out. If possible, they should also publish a photo of the dogs that attacked, if they were caught, so people can decide for themselves what breed it resembles, and whether this is a breed they would want to own. I personally have witnessed dogs belonging to 5 of those 10 breeds act aggressively towards people and other dogs. That first-hand account has made me question owning those breeds of dogs, more so than seeing them in a list like this. But, it is interesting that all the aggressive dogs I have met are of the breeds in the list!

They should have just argued that it wasn't a dog but their 'baby' instead - they might have got off the charge for other reasons. Surely anyone who can read and hasn't been knocked out by walking into the excessive amount of signs along beaches these days would know that dogs have restricted access on practically every public beach

I'll attempt to insert photos of my dogs. This is my boy Mojo And my girl Bella. Both have had surgery for distichea, but Bella has constant tearing which stains her face.

Thanks for the responses. Lying on the side is a good idea, this is how i have been brushing, but I have visions of having to corner him to get his coat blown dry I no longer even own a human hair-dryer, so I might go and check out ebay. A $200 dryer would pay for itself after 3 uses and last time I sent both dogs tp the groomers it cost me $190. Next question - is there a special dog shampoo to use for Samoyeds? We used to use wool wash on our old lab when I was growing up and I had to do a couple of emergency washes on bunnies once and used wool wash again, but I am sure it isn't really designed for this!

Thanks Melo. I did some research after posting and came across something called winter nose or snow nose, which apparently is when a black nosed dog will lose pigmentation over the winter months due to lack of sun, then the nose darkens again over summer. I will keep a watch and see what happens over summer. Did your regular hair dryer get too hot? Or did you use a cool setting? My groomer said I would probably burn the dog before completing drying them because human hair dryers are too hot. But, if it worked for you that is good to know. I like the idea of a power blower that can blow out some of the fur so that it doesn't all have to be stripped out with combs/brushes. Does anyone know if this is how it works? I imagine there would be a huge mess by the time you finished with it!!

I own two Samoyeds, a male and a female aged 7 years. I have noticed that photos of Samoyeds also show dogs with dark black noses. My dogs noses are progressively becoming paler, almost brown in colour. Is this something I should be concerned about or are Sammies noses 'touched up' with some kind of doggie make-up? I do recall seeing my breeder rub something on the dogs noses at a show. Also, what are the best sites and products to set up for grooming at home? I have always paid groomers to wash and do a tidy up clip, but am going to try to do it at home. I expect to have to pay out a bit to buy a good quality blower and or clipper. Can these be bought online? My boy dog has had some health problems and grooming has started to be more painful for him, so I would rather do it myself then send him to the groomers and not know how hard/rough they may be treating him. Thanks for any tips.
