Hey everyone, we are looking at going camping for a night or two around easter (we both have a few weeks off) and are new to Adelaide and want to go exploring! We have a 4 month old Vizsla, and really camping at this time of year is to get him used to it and hopefully not freeze at night! Any ideas? We are happy for a camp spot rather than caravan park as we have lots of camping gear, less than 2 hours away, relatively quiet (ie not many people) and able to have the dog. Having a look came across Mount Crawford area, looks great, anyone been there?? thanks guys

thanks everyone for the Vizsla love! Its amazing how many have touched peoples lives (always in a positive way its seems) as this is my first dog I thank everything that I found this breed and am able to fall in love with them first hand! Except for the piranha teeth that seem to be getting worse by the day - though we do get a few 1/2 days where we think "omgsh i think we may have beaten this phase" only to be attacked with more crazyness than ever!!! I know it will pass one day, although he will probably be a mouthy dog for a long while and possibly forever, life will be much easier with some bite inhibition!!! Bring on puppy school (have finished preschool and ready for the bigger boy classes). It IS funny the obsession dogs have with toilet rolls even 13wk puppy knows they are the best thing ever to steal and play with!! thanks for all the welcomes too, finding DOL an amazing source of information and looking forward to a long and happy friendship -
Thank you SO much everyone for sharing your wisdom!! As always there are always two sides to every story and its great to hear everyones experiences and opinions. I would like dog parks and any parks really to be a part of our future but there is definitely lots to look at before entering one! It seems that Kobi isn't too young as long as there are none or smaller dogs around which is what we we're thinking anyway. For the people that have gone to parks with their dogs young; when did you start letting them off leash? Say if we went down to dog park during the day, no dogs around, could we let him off when he (obviously) doesn't have much off leash control?? What about other areas, say if we were camping? We have just finished puppy pre school and are starting an 8 wk puppy obedience course this week the dog park is a obedience club as well so will look at joining there after the course has finished. Play sessions sound like a great idea at a dog club and hope there are some in our future Thanks for the concern but at our stage in vac's our vet has let us know were good to go at dog parks. thanks again everyone, although it is a little disheartening to hear more than a few bad experiences and hopefully we can try to avoid them with all the good help from here!

We have a 13 wk Vizsla puppy and a fully fenced dog park a block away from our house. I was wondering what the "rules" are for these sort of parks (newbie to all things dog ownership) as we would love to be able to take him down there for a romp and train with more distractions. I'm thinking he would be way to young if there were other dogs around? We usually walk around there to socialise without going in (met a lovely Vizsla and Wei there). Was thinking we might try and go down during the day (one of us is usually home during the day). Any ideas or help would be great thanks!!

KTB, Just wanted to pop over and say hi! after much searching and researching we brought an amazing pup home 5 weeks ago. Your threads kept popping up when looking at dol for information especially the one talking about your experiences with Elbie and LOTS of biting, we're going through the same thing at the moment (well ever since day 2 hehe), having a very mouthy dog where nothing is working!! - At the moment its ignore, ignore ignore, as not much else has had an effect. Pretty scared about coming into teething and teenager! Its really good to know there are others out there who have gone through it and come out the other end with good dogs! So thanks for sharing and its been a pleasure seeing lots of your photos and your pups growing up Kobi says thanks as well a rare moment in between crazies!! attacking my camera cord (sorry a little blurry) -
Triangle Of Temptation
Kobi'sDaisy replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
K9, just wanted to say thanks so much for the program! We've been using it for only 3 weeks on our now 13 wk old Vizsla and have seen MASSIVE improvements!! Just wanted to ask some advice on whining and vocals. We have a very vocal pup (im sure they all can be) and saw that this can be a good program for a dog that whines. Once he's tied up he begins and settles down after a few minutes but has settled to a quite whine is this acceptable? We've progressed to a sit/stay with the back tie off for 5-10 seconds with good eye contact but lately he has been backing away from the food, while in a sit, sometimes almost turning circles, while sitting, seemingly with excitement any clues to combat this, or if its ok. He isn't breaking the sit/stay to get food just a little crazy! thanks again for the program, im amazed how well its worked on a puppy, was thinking it would take a lot longer to get where we are! -
Just found some pine cones in the area and thought they would be some fun for Kobi. Then realised as he is a notorious chewer/eater of everything that he would go straight ahead and try and eat it! Is it bad? We know he eats sticks and things a bit and cant stop him when we're not around. Just wanting to know if he can continue his fun with his new toy? thanks

Introducing Kobi The Beautiful Vizsla
Kobi'sDaisy replied to Kobi'sDaisy's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Thanks for all the comments we think he's the best. Onthe other side of the city on Beverley so no go at rose park. Have started at holdfast bay as there was nothing in our area but have had the worst timing so he's getting behind with socialisation!! Hoping to go to the Adelaide dol meets this weekend and next for some meet and greets though! -
Just wondering if anyone had any tips on getting rid of ants in the back yard? Our rental is full of ant hills! Is 'rid' or any other products safe to use around dogs? We have an 11 week old puppy that loves to eat everything so worried he will ingest poison. It wasn't so bad but gave him his first beef bone today and as it takes him a LOT longer to eat the meat off it got covered in SO many ants! Any help would be great!!

Puppy Still Does Not Like His Crate
Kobi'sDaisy replied to Kobi'sDaisy's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks everyone for the great replies ill let you know where im at with a few things.. Unfortunately we are in a rental where he is not allowed in the front of the house the laundry is fine as its fully tiled and we have been letting him in the lounge room/kitchen supervised only. He has a bed in the lounge as well which he is happy to have naps on whenever. But we are unable to have the crate in the lounge, although I might have to try and negotiate with the real estate if this continues! We do leave him for an 1-4 hours a day when at work which he stays and sleeps in the crate fine. He is not very toy orientated they interest him for a minute or two or not at all even stuffed kongs!! and have tried to lure him in there with a toy but does not work. We are now feeding him TOT style as i was hoping it to help with structure and help with the crying when trying to get what he wants. In the future we are happy for him to sleep in the lounge, even the bedroom if we were in a house that would allow, just thought it would be easier from day one to have him where we expect him to be for a while. As i said he had been going really well the first few weeks, seems to be getting worse, maybe the attachment and velcro-ness is getting stronger? The multiple crate seem a great idea, just a little expensive! First dog for us so only one crate plus another "daybed" These problems are really just at night lately i will try some crate games with him to see how he goes just wish i could get him to learn to amuse himself more, usually just sleeps when we're not there if he could do that perhaps he would like the crate more.. At least its not barking! Thanks again everyone, its really good to vent a terrible nights sleep to people that understand and get some GREAT ideas -
Hi everybody, we have a 11 week old Hungarian Vizsla who has been making leaps and bounds every day but from day one has always had a problem with his crate. At the start he couldn't even have the door closed even when we were right next to him now he sleeps in there OK until last night! He's never really cried at night, last night it lasted hours after ever time he work up I have no idea why! It's in the laundry which is at a nice temp and there is always a toy or two to keep him company on a bed and a blanket. We try to put him in there for naps during the day as he never goes in there by himself and have tried to make the area fun but he always wants to be where we are (a good trait of the dogs) anyone with velcro dogs had this problem? How have you overcome it? thanks in advance and looking forward to more sleep tomorrow night!

Help! Puppy Nearly Choked On Chicken Wing
Kobi'sDaisy replied to Kobi'sDaisy's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks for the reply's will try a whole one today - first time we tried a whole one he just didn't seem to know what to do with it maybe as he had no real experience with bones. I was supervising on advice from most places i have read and he has never seemed to minded my presence but might be a beginning behaviour so will back off a little but still want to be around in case it happens again. Will beef bones be too hard for a puppy's teeth? Picked some up at the butcher for variation. Don't want to give up as he really enjoys raw (of course) and is always looking around for more when he's finished! Otherwise any tips on getting him to take his time more with food or do i need not be too concerned? -
Help! Puppy Nearly Choked On Chicken Wing

Yep, 3 meals a day 1 and a bit raw and the rest kibble plus some training treats through the day (around 1/2 cup kibble per meal). Just dont want to go over feeding him as i know they will eat until its unhealthy -

My 10 week old Vizsla has been eating chicken necks and wings for the first few weeks absolutely fine (we are trying to feed 50% raw). When he came from the breeder she let us know he was a slow eater and often takes him a while to finish his food - he was the smallest of the litter. He's been eating really well so far but tonight he barely chewed the wing and started to choke! As i was supervising him i noticed straight away and tried to assist but he got it down in the end after many weird noises and actions. We have been cutting the wings in half so he can actually chew them does this mean there too small already? It usually takes him 10min to finish them tonight it was like 1min! We are feeding the recommended food amount of kibble and wings/necks could it be he is still very hungry? Are they now too small for him? Otherwise any tips on getting him to eat slower? I assisted with the second half (scared out of my mind it would happen again) but thought it might have been a fluke) and helped him tear it into smaller pieces just not too sure what to do?! Any tips? Experiences? thanks!!!!!

Question re: baking mince, how long will these last for treats? how do you store them? thanks in advance!

Puppy Pre-school In Adelaide
Kobi'sDaisy replied to Diesel's Mate's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I too am looking for a puppy pre school as we are getting ours in 3 1/2 weeks! Have only found vets around my area (Beverley) that do it but not sure if they will be as good as specialized schools, is there any reasons why you would not go through the vets? - I'm a first timer so still learning! What sort of puppy are you getting? -

Are you getting a puppy from Bokezu? I know they had a Vizsla litter born last week. I love Vizslas, I used to own two, and I see you're in SA. We should make a play date when we've both got our puppies. :D Whiskedaway, not getting one from Bokezu although their dogs are so nice and what cute pups and such a big litter! Ours is coming from vic only 7 weeks to go! Would love to organise play date where in SA are you? -

Another one here! Our vizsla puppy is born and we have a long 7 weeks to go (birth was last week!) now we can really start to buy things! So much to do with so little time!! Any tips from fellow puppy waiting people? Good sites for the big things (crates etc)? Looking forward to lots of photos!! -
Thanks so much! We're not far north (in Beverley) so have found a few around there just wanted some opinions as I heard the vet schools can have some mixed results. The para dog training looks fantastic and will definatley look into it when he's older (it's a Vizsla we 're getting)

Hey all! We are expecting a new arrival in Feb and are starting to look into puppy school then a little later on dog training school. We are living north of the city and was hoping to get some advice, positive or negative of places in the area so we can make a good decision. Our dog will be pet only so just needs standard obedience through positive reinforcement. Thanks in advance
