Hi Everyone, Can anyone help me with finding a reputable/good grooming school in WA? Or are there schools you can do it by correspondence for the theory and just go in for the practical?...Would love to hear from anybody .....Thanks Westielove.

I have all the veterinary side covered as my father is a vet and mother is a vet nurse yay!!....I have a cupboard full of horse whitening shampoos so that is great to know that some of them will be suitable!.....I am going to some shows in October for a look and meet see what's the latest fashion and fads etc... Think hubby is going to hide all the credit cards ..... Thanks everyone.....

Thanks so much for your advise ,I will be going to the Championship show in October so I hope to meet some Westie people and see how they show, ....I would see if I like showing first before I breed, as in the pony world and my belief is that if they can't win at a fairly high level of showing then they should not be bred from, after all breeding is about keeping the breed true to type and making it better and stronger and not breeding faults or trying to "up" breed. So although I am a newbie to the dog show/ breed world I have over 35 years in the horse show/breed world so there are a lot of similarilties.... . If my puppy turns out not to be good enough to show or breed from it does't worry us in the least, as she will always be our loved family companion and friend before she is a show dog or dam. Will look up the westie thread on the breeders section would be great !!! Thanks again - It's so nice to feel welcome and have people such as yourself offer help ....

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! .. yes my new "baby" is indeed going to be a Westie and I am so excited it seems like waiting for a puppy to arrive is like waiting for Christmas or a birthday as a child!! I have looked up some shows and will be coming to some as a spectator of course very excited about that I have been to a few dog shows in the past but it was years ago and things are always changing.... I am not sure of were my puppy is coming from as yet as I have selected a few breeders and I am waiting to see what litters they have and if they have a suitable show potential female - so at the moment I have to let nature take it course and sit and try to be patient!! I have had no luck with breeders in WA at the moment so that is why I may find it hard to get a mentor as I probably won't end up with a local puppy, which in a way is a shame, as I do feel that it would be lovely to be able to have help and contact locally.....never mind Iam determinded and will find a way to do it either way!!....there is always the internet and the phone! As has been said once people know you are genuine and keen and have your heart in the right place help and guidance will follow.....I hope.. I will be posting pictures as soon as I am able, can't wait to show of my new bundle .....may not be until next year though!.....perfection takes time . Were is the best place to buy show equipment from are there good online stores like in the horse world??....What would a good starter show kit consist of and what are the better brands?....Is bling for Westies in or out?? I would think a no no....just plain white minimal lead? Any tricks and trades of keeping a white puppy pristine for the ring??? I have tonnes of them for ponies and horses....eg, baby wipes, white horse chalk coat sprays to stop static and repell dust.....are any of these good in the dog world or not?? Thanks for any advise or feed back,....it all helps one learn!! P.S Yes my puppy is from a experinced show/stud home with some of them having imported bloodlines.....but it can be a bit nevere racking buying interstate as you have to just go on pics,bloodlines,reputation,and what you are told by the breeder....hence I am comparing a few and researching ...

Hi Everyone, I am new to the world of showing and breeding, I have chosen my breed and am waiting patiently for my puppy,I have owed this breed before and absolutley adore it!!!..They have bought our family so much joy and happiness in past years I can't wait to have another. I have been in the show world although not the canine one,.....but the equine one for over 35years and have been breeding them as well. I also come from a veterinary family so have experienced help at hand as well as my own knowledge. I want to show as I love showing my horses in breed classes and find it thrilling to go through all the work and excitment of preparing,getting top bloodlines, finding the best conformation etc.... So is it quite similar in the dog world??.....It does seem quite a closed world with new people not taken in easily? PLEASE I mean no disrespect I have just been reading posts..... I understand that people are trying to stop BYB which I feel is completly wrong and immorale, but what happens and how do you get into showing and breeding if you are truly trying to do the right thing and doing it for the love of the breed NOT for money,popularity or anything else...... I to am looking for a mentor and am willing to learn and take the time to gain knowledge before entering into the ring or breeding. I read everyday about my chosen breed study conformations, read about breeding , look up show results I have looked at every breeder in Australia that has websites to compare, I am now looking up UK breeders and guidelines as well. This is something I am taking very seriously as I do with my show horses, they are a major part of my and my familes life..... First and foremost I want to have a constant companion and friend that will bring that extra joy into our lives, showing would just be the icing on the cake!! I would love to hear from any breeders and show people alike with any advise and what is the best way to start showing ( I do have some ideas)......I am also in WA....Thank everyone for reading...

Hi All, Just thought I would put in a post, I am trying to be patient about waiting for my Westie puppy!.....I think I may have found the breeder that I will be purchasing from puppies should be arriving early next year, so I have a long long wait, Think I am driving my husband and kids mad with my constant updates and talking about our future puppy ......It is quite a stressful thing to go through buying sight unseen you have to put all your trust in the breeder that they will choose the right match for you. Anyway I have a long time to work up a good relationship .....Cheers for now Westielove.

Hi Everyone, Just wondering were is the best place or best breeder to buy a Westie puppy from in WA?? Is it also possible to learn how to show them?? I know it can be difficult due to the strict coat stripping requirments but I would love to learn and just have some fun as well, as they are such an endearing little dog....who wouldn't want one!!!! Also how can you become a registered breeder (only want to do this on a very small scale) with top bloodlines and help promote the breed in professional manner....I have been told that you can't show or breed them if you are a newbie!!!!!!! If this is so then how will the breed grow what is the point of showing if new people can't enter would you not just end up showing against the same people/dogs time and time again???? Bloodlines would become stale and repeated, line bred etc??? Is there a Westie club in WA?? Cheers WestieLove
