  1. I am going to be starting tracking in May and I can't wait. From what I understand tracking cannot be taught to a dog. It's all up to the dog. I have been told that we will be doing the same sort of thing. I will be doing a weekend workshop where we make the harnesses up ourselves. I understand we will be taking the dogs out and laying the track while a handler takes out dog. I don't know much more so can't comment any further, sorry.
  2. I haven't had to put Tyler in a boarding kennel, but if I did have to for a short period of time, I would not keep her on raw for this time. I would feed her a good quality dry food. I have heard of a few dogs coming home from kennels sick due to the raw meet not being kept properly. You need to be careful of other's people's ideas on how raw meat should be kept for your dog. You have no control on whether or not the raw meaty bone is left sitting defrosting on the bench all day and left to go off and then fed to the dog. My dog isn't used to high amounts of bacteria as her food is human quality and is brought straight home, bagged and frozen, so she wouldn't handle poorly kept meat.
  3. I didn't get the pleasure of meeting Dodge, but from all the stories I have heard, Dodge sounded like a beautiful boy with a huge heart and loads of personality. I am so sorry for your loss ReXy. Love to your family from mine. Rest In Peace Dodge. All our love, Alison and Tyler xoxoxo

I just saw this Sas. I am so sorry. Hope you are at peace now sweet Turbo
  5. My bones are cut into meal size pieces. Don't get your butcher to chop each meal into little pieces or it defeats the purpose of the dog chewing on the bone. I feed: chicken wings chicken carcasses lamb ribs lamb necks lamb off cuts beef ribs beef briskets the occasional marrow bone basically anything easily digested that is readily available. I get most of my bones from an organic butcher. Also feed: heart, liver, kidneys (although Tyler prefers to roll in the kidneys than eat them so she doesn't get them very often )
  6. While I understand what you are saying, please be aware that other people's dogs do get loose and you may come across them while out walking. If a dog was to come closer than Winne's safe distance than you need to know how to best avoid a fight. Even though the dog is loose and you are doing the right thing by keeping Winnie on lead, if Winnie hurts or kills the other dog, both you and Winnie will be held responsible. This is something that I hate, although I am doing the right thing having my fear aggressive dog on lead and avoiding places with other dogs, sometimes we come across stray or loose dogs. It is unfair that my dog could be PTS because someone else is being irresponsible and their dog is loose. This alone is a good reason why you should continue working on Winnie's fear aggression. Good luck, yes it is a long hard journey, but as Haven said, it can also be extremely rewarding.
  7. I feed Tyler a whole raw egg weekly. She takes it on her bed and cracks a hole in the top and licks all the runny stuff out, then she eats the shell. It is great to watch. They get good at it after a while and hardly waste a drop. Her first egg she just went crunch and it went everywhere and she was licking egg (and dirt) out of the grass for hours
  8. It's ok miss Hedds, he only joined DOL yesterday. Your not going crazy or loosing your touch....YET ;)
  9. F & A, where you at the trialling info night on Friday?
  10. Didn't see you there today Lablover1. I was looking out for you and Toby. Max went great in his first day class :D
  11. I just wanted to say a BIG thank you to the RRCV for their help and understanding with Tyler. They where super helpful and gave us extra special treatment, letting us enter through our own special gate so I didn't have to walk Tyler past all the other dogs. Thank you soo much! Also, a big thank you to FeralSam for lining up and buying my ticket for me so I again didn't have to walk through all the other dogs. It was nice to meet all the DOLers there. Tyler's 'Please Give Me Space' jacket came in handy with DOLers being able to recognise who we where Nice to meet you to Iron Chef Michiba. Your dogs are just gorgeous!
  12. Woo Hooooooooooo. Go Toby Go Better watch out, he'll be overtaking us real soon!
  13. I have PMed you. Tyler and I would love to come. Thanks David!
  14. FeralSam, the jacket is flourescent yellow and says on both sides 'please give me space' You wont miss it
  15. I will be there with Tyler for her first shot at Lure Coarsing. She is fear aggressive, do you think anyone would mind if I got someone to line up for me to save her the stress? And should I bring her 'give me space' jacket?
  16. Just a quick note to let everyone know that we have had great success. Tyler was a little aggressive towards my Mum's dog at first, but once she sniffed his bum (shook hands) all was fine. The two dogs are getting along without a hitch. Have been playing together constantly and there is not a hint of aggression. To see these two dogs together you would not know that one of them is fear aggressive. Jesse and Tyler are having a ball together. Thanks for the hints Steve. Unfortunately Mum's dog Jess is far from obedient so wouldn't sit or stand still or do anything we wanted, so we just had to make the rules as we went along and I read Tyler using all that Steve had tought me and it all went fantastic. So thanks again guys. Im going to enjoy the rest of my holiday :D
  17. Geez...it must cost you a fortune Hillary...oops I mean Hedds
  18. Thanks Slim, YAY Count me in  ;) :D Tyler will love to be able to herd real sheep instead of practising on flies and shadows
  19. Yes thank you for pointing this out to me....again Erny. I think if you go back and read my post you will see that I wasn't trying to rehash on what seems to have been done to death. I was simply pointing out to K9 that I think a good trainer is worth every cent they charge. So for future reference, it may pay to remember that I can read, but thanks anyway Edited for spelling, I may be able to read, but I can't type
  20. Can you leave them inside for the time being Cheyenne to stop them from escaping? Are they digging, jumping or squeezing? I found that bricks layed around the fence/gate line eliminates digging out.
