Thanks so much Tollers Have emailed Action Dogs and Geraldine (and spoke to her on the phone) and will email Croydon to see what they say as well. Yes Kelpiechick Wandong is a bit far out for me, actually I just don't like that particular drive from here. North is the worst direction to travel from Yarra Glen. But it's nice to know whats available none the less, thanks again.

Which one is your current pick? (Just wanting to test my eyes against yours and see what you are looking for)

Starts 8/9, next week there is no training as everyone is at the state trial :) Thanks a lot! WIll look into that too, sounds perfect. Thank you!

I'm in Yarra Glen but happy to travel as far as KCC South and Bulla West. K9 told me not to even bother going on the wait list, I've been told Croydon was the same but might email them and see if they are willing to assess us and I will join if they like us. Happy to go on a Sunday morning if I have no other choice. Thanks for the tip for Geraldine, I will give her a call this avo, a private lesson might even be the way to go at first and she doesn't sound expensive. The problem isn't that we can't do the obedience - she's a naturally very obedient dog. We have flawless recall (and I can call her off anything, at any time, anywhere), sit / drop / stand / stay / jump / up & down (on and off obstacles) / "in" (for tunnels and confined spaces), heel is good but needs a fine tune for closeness. It's the matter of no intake opportunity for at least 6 months or a waiting list so long I'm told not to bother even trying to get in! I must admit being so new to dog sports there is certainly an air of "your not good enough" whilst trying to get involved, that is really off putting. All I want to do is train my dog in something she loves and hopefully get a few titles along the way.

Ok, a touch frustrated, about to go email a bunch of people again but thought I'd ask here as well. My WSSD girl and I are doing Obedience training, she is obedient but she doesn't love the training so neither of us really enjoy it, after Obedience there is a small series of jumps and a tunnel - well you want to see a Jeckyl and Hyde - the most excited dog in the place, I would set her up at the start of the jumps and have to do the course via voice as I could not run as fast as she was able to do the course! I want to do Agility, because my dog REALLY loves to do it. After Show training I sat and watched a club train, and at the end asked how to get involved and was basically told I wouldn't be considered because we aren't good enough yet. The only other place I can think of close to us seems to have a similar attitude. It seems I need to have a UDX dog before we will be considered for Agility. I will go to CCD if I have to (she is basically a CCD dog now just needs some fine tuning of our heel and speed of sit/ drop/ stand transitions) but neither of us get much out of this training because we don't enjoy it, so why take it further. I would like to get a title or 2 in agility, but to be fair I am not aiming to represent Australia at the Agility Olympics - how can I be, we haven't had a single Agility lesson to date, it's possible this will change. All I am after is a place where we can train, where we will be accepted to train from a bottom level and given the opportunity to work our way up. I don't want to have to buy my own equipment and watch DVD's to train ourselves because I can't find a club to take us. Our other biggest issue is that I show, and so it would be preferable to find a club which trains after hours on a weekday other than a Sat or Sun morning. I am the only person currently representing my breed in the show rings in my part of Victoria, and it would be nice not to have to sacrifice one, to do the other. Maybe I am asking for too much - I'm sure I'll be told pretty quickly if that's the case!! But if anyone has any idea's that'd be great.

A nice little article about management. http://www.showdogsu...e.com/hips.html ETA: not all parts are relevant for you, but it's worth the read for the parts that are.

An offshoot thread from another question I've asked.... I suppose my question would be how far to people go in breeding selection criteria? Of course there are dogs who are better than others, and some carry or are affected by particular ailments etc... but how far do you go in terms of the possible genetic issues that may or may not be in a line because "once there was a few pups affected by a different ailment that is linked to a more severe one" or "the sire has never produced the ailment but the litter sister has".... etc, etc. I'm not talking about detectable ailments here like HD/ED/Eyes/Ears, I mean ones you can't test for and there is no known mode of genetic inheritance nor how clearly genetics is linked and could possible be brought about mostly by environment. There is always the chance you will have a recessive gene or a mutant gene etc... so where do people draw the line between a calculated risk and throwing the baby out with the bathwater? (Just trying to get a feel for how other breeders draw together their acceptable breeding stock and why)

Thanks for that, pretty interesting point really and another spanner in the mix. Aside from the actual trait being Genetic / or not Genetic, there is the possibility that a predisposition to another trait (ie. the way nutrients are/ are not absorbed during digestion) can lead to a deficiency causing secondary Radius curvus? I don't know really but it's an interesting point you make none the less. I suppose then my question would be then also how far to people go in breeding selection criteria? Of course there are dogs who are better than others, and some carry or are affected by particular ailments etc... but how far do you go in terms of the possible genetic issues that may or may not be in a line because " once there was a few pups affected by a different ailment that is linked to a more severe one" or "the sire has never produced the ailment but the litter sister has".... etc, etc. I'm not talking about detectable ailments here like HD/ED/Eyes/Ears, I mean ones you can't test for and there is no known mode of genetic inheritance nor how clearly genetics is linked and could possible be brought about mostly by environment. It is no secret that you can have as many clear pups as you like and still have a recessive gene or a mutant gene etc... so where do people draw the line between a calculated risk and throwing the baby out with the bathwater? (Again I am NOT dealing with this issue myself, just trying to get a feel for how other breeders draw together their acceptable breeding stock - the responsibility of these decisions is quite serious at the end of the day)

Where to start..! Can I ask what train of thought led to this question? Out of pure curiosity, nothing else

THANK YOU! Time to get reading. The thing that is so hard with these problems is that because the mode of inheritance and the actual level of genetics involved can be so undefined, it is hard to ascertain the level of risk involved in a bloodline where only one or two dogs have become symptomatic - and the line in question is 2 or 3 generations back, and the dog who is being blamed is a well used sire yet this is the first I've heard of it..... I feel like LOL!!!

Just did a quick Google search but it didn't really show up with what I was after. Has anyone had much experience with Radius Curvus and in terms of it's mode of inheritance? It seems to me it is more of an environmental problem, or a genetic problem which is triggered by environmental situations, but I couldn't see much that suggested it had the capacity to be completely Genetic and present in dogs without the influence of environment being a factor. I don't have a dog with this problem so I am not going it through it personally, but I have heard it may be "in the lines" of a dog I was watching (which it may or may not be of course, as the info was second hand), so I am interested to hear what peoples experiences have been. Thanks

THANKS!!! I've been without a computer so found it hard to reply! Will look into those so hopefully at least we'll look the part soon Well almost, duno about my dodgy stripping effort!

A scam will also usually want to pay via PayPal or Western Transfer - they will ask you to pay for the freight and they will reimburse you. They will be overseas or away with work. Trying to think of the other ones I got with trying to sell a horse.... that covers most though. Generic responses and frustration if you continue to ask questions. Go with your gut in the end, I don't know how people that want pups to send OS operate so better to be safe then sorry.

Really admire your level head. Love a happy ending, I do hope there is a Grand Champ in there for you.

Does anyone know where I can get a "Gentle" or "Kindness" martingale show lead? The ones which have a wider flat piece for around the neck other than just the thinner banding of the rest of the lead... sorry about the bad description! I'm wanting something that has soft leather for at least the martingale, so it will be nice and soft on his little neck. My breeder has several that she purchased yonks ago from somewhere (lol) but that's a hard shop to find! Any suggestions would be great - (the last time I checked in the man at KCC park doesn't sell them, only synthetic ones) THANK YOU!

Ah guilt... it's not a good thing! There are some good points above; A cleaner, paying someone to walk your dogs 3 times a week so you have more time for her (and the bub), Some "her" time, BUT don't push her out of the house or she might hate you! but 30 mins for a coffee, or going to do the shopping alone might be enough...? What about allocating an RDO once every few weeks to help her along? It'll calm down over time, maybe you could go and see a doctor on your own if you are concerned about her - then your not putting any pressure on her and finding out what is the best for you to do. There is nothing worse than that feeling of giving everyone else your all, and no one is giving back, even if thats not the case.

I might be way off here but what about a milk supplement like Divetelac? I know it's for puppies, but it's packed full of nutrients and is a milk so easily syringed, I assume it is kind on a tummy too given its intended use. I give it to mother not just babies and she loves it so I would assume it is yummy - maybe ask your Vet? -

Is There Any Things Said About Your Breed...
Saffioraire replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've also been told they are an abomination, a worthless mutt and that they shouldn't exist. I've been told by others they are just a GSD with a different name just so we can get more money for the pups. Apparently they are also a dog with no purpose. These comments are all just from this year :-( Just do what I do and smile politely and say 'isn't it funny, my dog is sitting here thinking the exact same thing about you!' I'm sure theyll have fewer words when a WSSD saves them from being lost in the bush or snow!
