Cooling Coats

sorry to resuscitate this post, but with the weather warming up, I wanted to let you know that I have just received an order of new design, ultra lightweight cooling coats that are budget priced (from $30) I also stock Techniche Hyperkewl products How does it work? Made from PVA (Polyvinyl Alcohol) foam. This material is markedly greater than other materials at absorbing and retaining water. It is also durable. The ability of PVA foam to retain water makes it ideal for cooling products. The water held in the material slowly evaporates, drawing heat away from your dog’s body and reducing their temperature. The cooling effect lasts until the coat starts to dry out, which can be an hour or two on a very hot day and quite a few hours on a typical warm day. We live on acreage, with a big fenced area, so don't really want to restrict her to an enclosure. She is outside most of the time atm, but we are bringing her inside at night until she is a little bit bigger as she is a bit too small to leave out by herself at the moment. Will seek out the assistance of a trainer to see if we can do something about the toads.

Hi there we have a new puppy, and she will be an outdoor dog when she is a bit bigger. We have loads of cane toads on our property, and I am worried about her having a go at one. I was talking to a lady at work today, and she suggested getting a Zap training collar, and using this to train her to keep away from the toads. I have never used one of these before, and would like some opinions on whether you think this may work for us? thanks, Angela

I bought some kitty litter that was diametaceous (?) earth. I use it to dry out wardrobes like damp rid. How does it kill fleas? I'm told you cant use flea collars on greyhounds because they are sensitive to the ingredients - in fact, I probably learnt it on here. Also some of the tick treatments (thanks Snippet for that info). I think she said you can buy it in a powder form and you dust it on your dog's coat, and sprinkle it on carpets, bedding etc, leave it for a bit then vacuum it up. I haven't used it myself yet, would like to hear from anyone who has used it though and was the results were

has anyone used diamataceous (sp?) earth? My groomer said this is natural, and works better than any chemical treatments. Yet to use it myself, I am still using Frontline Plus.

lol, funny stories I remember when I was a teenager, my friend had Samoyed, who was reknowned for being a bit of a himbo, and we used to walk him in the afternoons after school. One afternoon, we were waiting to cross a busy road at the zebra crossing. Eventually the cars stopped to let us cross, but Jed decided just as we stepped onto the crossing that it would be a good time to poo. My mate, Karen, was trying to get Jed to keep walking, but he was on his tippy toes in classic poo pose, more interested in doing his business than getting out of the way of the traffic. It seemed like forever for them to get across the road, he kept pooing as she pulled him along. I made it to the other side of the road much quicker than them, and had tears running down my face I was laughing so much. I laughed even harder when I saw all the people in the cars pointing and laughing their heads off. She was lucky that it wasn't happening in this day, as it would be a youtube sensation. To add insult to injury, a few days earlier, one of Karen's brothers had thought it would be funny to draw "magoo" style glasses on Jed with a permanent marker, I reckon the audience in the cars would have been talking about it for ages. cheers Angela

have to agree that cats are better off inside or in a run, better for them and better for the wildlife. We have 4 indoor cats who have a tunnel from a window to an outdoor run where they can sit and watch the birds, but not touch them.

There are pros and cons with starting from scratch vs buying into a franchise. With a franchise you do get initial training, and ongoing support, but these come at a price. Not just the cost to buy in, but also ongoing royalties for the life of the franchise. Can you maybe start part time on weekends while you stay in your current job, until you get enough clients to support a full time business? If you find that you are getting too many clients for the weekend, but not quite enough to quit your job just yet, you can always contract the week days out and lease your grooming vehicle. Eventually it will be big enough that you can do it full time. if you google my user name, you will find lots of info on working with pets

the photos that I used were about 10 years old and scanned from prints (before we had a digital camera), and they turned out great. I wasn't sure how they would look, as I thought the scans looked a little 'grainy' but I am very happy with them.

is it worth getting a professional pet sitter to come to your home to look after him? Someone who has dog handling/training experience and knows how to deal with aggressive dogs? Or can you offer safe, restricted access to be able to provide food and water without the chance of being attacked?
