  1. After discussing with the breeder, have a vet who is expert in injuries look at her, breeder should know who to use. Badly treated puppy injuries can lead to a lifetime of misery for owner and dog and as has been stated, you need an experienced vet, the sort who the performance and racing dogs see
  2. Sucking can be a hangover from baby puppy stage. One of my bitches still occasionally kneads and sucks soft toys, she will go and find a toy sometimes at night and seems to get great comfort from it. Rarely does it now but was a quite a habit when she was young Her daughter does not do it Understand it is a hangover from kneading and suckling to bring mum's milk down Friends with Dobes tell me bed sucking is big with them.........
  3. Herding and Tracking can be much the same, great feeling
  4. Does anyone know anywhere I can get the old soft dry bed, used to only come in blue with blue backing, not hard bcking like stuff around today. Mine is giving up the ghost, only 20 years old!!
  5. Why take away what he values? Just fade the rewards, expect more for less, just part of training/preparing the dog for competition, you would have to do the same with toys too...............remember your tone of voice and your body language you will always have with you so use them in conjunction with the rewards, in the ring they are all you have!! But that is a way off....................all things gradually :-)
  6. You have to increase distance gradually, probably she thinks all things are done close to you because that's where she was taught to do them, so she is coming to you to do what she has learned. One of mine could not sit up from the down facing me for love or money, just didn't get it, brought in a new command and did it straight off..........like it was a different dance step altogether............very literal dog, doesn't generalise easily If you have signals as well, how does she react with no voice command?
  7. As of July 1 all nsw shows where the club is affiliated with nsw must have neuter class. Understand that is not within ANKC regs????
  8. Are you talking about a first litter for this bitch? If a bitch has previously whelped I feel they can have further litters at an older age than a maiden Depends on the breed too
  9. I think you will find that has been clarified......................somewhere...................but at DPI seminar for DV members, it was quite clearly bitches they are talking about under current proposals (not talking about existing codes)..................even up to the point that entire bitches under 12 months don't count because they are below minimum breeding age.....................owners of entire older bitches were also advised to have veterinary opinion in writing that such bitches were not breedable (I'm dubious about that one, strange things do happen).......................some breeders don't desex older bitches (I do) and there has to be some provision which does not force breeders to offload older stock to make room for next generation..............heart of gold our govt has!!
  10. CURRENT rules state "the dog must positively indicate the articles by either sitting, standing, downing, picking up or at least pausing to the satisfaction of the judge", so unless revised rules have tightened up on what a pause is, nothing has changed, it has always been up to the judge to deem it an indication or not
  11. Don't suddenly charge, ease up and ease down smoothly, always think of big transports going through the gears up and down a hill, best way I can put it, fast pace is simply a noticeable change, not a race.................
  12. A Gr OC attained in Victoria yesterday, Ian Woollard's GSD Jake scored 194 to give him his title at GSD Restricted OT
  13. They are all only words (sounds) to the dog, the advantage of teaching the dog to remain in sit, etc without stay word means that eventually you don't need to say anything, they stay there until released, that's the theory anyway!! Too often the stay command becomes a threat to the dog, too often they get anxious and break instead of being cool about it all
  14. Oh no, I didn't hear anything about that. Do you know which breed clubs have pulled out? Not definitely but if you were looking at specific breed/s advertised, maybe you could call the club/s involved to check before you pay go?
  15. I hear a lot of breed clubs have pulled out, conditions offered for admission, parking, space, housing of dogs have caused it
  16. I see the sense in it. Often do it myself to reinforce that that position is positive. Interested to know what people think Come means to the dog? In my case I want it to mean sitting right in front, the running in part is simply to get the dog there, it is not the Come. If I call my dogs and don't want a formal sit in front, I just say Here. Experience has taught me many times that what I think I have taught the dog is not what they have actually come to associate with the word, made me a better trainer!!
  17. DV is working on it, rest assured. It is not legislation, it is a draft up for sensible comment. A calm rational approach is required
  18. Got mine from one of chemist chains - Discount Chemist or Chemist Warehouse, can't remember which They had range of boxes of various dried leaves, flowers, etc
