Why are we still having comments re the import of Legally docked dogs, with members asking why are they still importing dogs' than cannot be shown ? as we speak it is still legal under Australian law to have a dog with a docked tail, and currently it is still able to be shown, It is only members of our hallowed dog bodies that are trying to stop LEGALLY docked dogs being shown NOT the government. We can all think of various things in the dog world that we all dont' agree with ,but for God's sake be united in something that although it may not affect you it might be to the benefit of the overall dog showing scene. Get into your state body and TELL them how you feel about this peanuts' motion.
-
As long as we have people with the attitude of this peanut representing members of our canine bodies we are all seeing the final demise of the purebred dog scene. Over the years prior to the docking ban NO canine body showed the guts' to stand up to the bleeding hearts and all their renta crowd cohorts. As usual most people in the dog world are only concerned about their own sucess and financial gain and in the preceeding docking ban years nobody could unite all of us for a fight against this threat.Get over the sour grapes and if you dont' want to import a LEGALLY docked dog stop whinging about a level playing field in the dog showing world, IT HAS NEVER BEEN A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD in the 30years I have been showing. ( a docked breed , dogs suprisingly well adjusted and socialable dogs, neither paronoid nor man eaters because of the immense trauma suffered because of the horrific experience of docking.

I have bred and owned Rottweilers and GSD for nearly thirty years and luckily have not had a bloat problem. A few guidelines that I have always stuck to. 1. Never feed an hour either side of exercise, allow dogs to calm down for at least that hour. 2 ALWAYS soak your dry food. I feed maximum of one cup of dry food , but always soaked. ( tonights dinners are soaking as I speak. We also have had our share of gulpers, so we feed smaller amounts more regularly. Dog food manufactorers feeding guidelines are B/s so take no notice of them, they want you to use a bag a week....overkill. I hope my hints are helpful.

The government in their wisdom banned among other things tail- banding for dogs' without any scientific evidence to prove that it was against the welfare of the dog and instead listened to a lot of incorrect claims from the anti- dog lobby. These same groups and their supporters are now trying to stop the breeding of dogs, be it ever so stealthily and if we are all not very careful it will happen in some form or another. Proposed licences etc. is the beginning, be aware! Around the world as mentioned previously in this forum countries have now finally decided that it is the owners of the dogs that allow indiscriminate breeding not the dogs and it is about time we did the same with owners/breeders who do not provide the correct care and attention for their animals. If we are not vocal and militant about this issue we will all pay the penalty.
-
I think that all animals would be better off if we starting desexing some of the so-called animal lovers who are responsible for many horrific outcomes to stop their genes being passed on. Unfortunatley all the licencing and all the regulations will only hurt all those that strive to do the right thing, you can't legislate for stupidity. Just take a drive down many near city/regional roads and see the never ending signs on gates and fences with dogs/cats for sale, not to mention shopping centre notice boards and the internet. The ban on guns' have certainly stopped gun crimes...I dont' think.

Do we really need to have show judges named and listed on show schedules, and if so WHY? How about if no judges are named on schedules , and are only allocated their groups when intoduced at the beginning of the show, and have their group drawn from a hat etc. so Nobody knows who is doing what until the day.Or do we all want to know so we can follow judges we do well under or know ?.....interesting dilemma.

May I suggest, being a long time supporter of tail BANDING that you compile a record of treatments, vet visits PHOTOGRAPHS of the continual injury and find a Vet who will for the well being of the dog remove its' tail as would normally have been done at birth be it not for the bleeding hearts and gutless politicans who with no scientific evidence to support the claims of cruelty with the banding of dogs' tails at birth decided in their infinite wisdom to ban it and subject many breeds of dogs to the pain and suffering that your dog is suffering.

What Dry Food Would You Recommend?
klink replied to rusty&biscuit's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
All you poor mislead souls out there. The Dog food manufactoring companies marketing arms simply love you. Purina just about own everything and we all whinge about Woolworths and Coles having a monoply. All the so-called up market foods just fill their coffers and help them get even more greedy. For years I used Greens Supercoat ( before Purina took them over ) and found it very good with my large breeds, but it was changed , both in quality and particularly price so I did some research and looked into Coprice a rice based food from the AUSTRALIAN rice growers and found that my dogs love it. Stools etc are excellent, coats are immaculate. Save yourselves some money and give it a look. $32. for 20kg. nothing artifical. Keep you money here and feed your dogs a decent healthy food. -
Should Regional Areas Have To Support Erskine Park.?
klink replied to klink's topic in General Dog Discussion
Should city individuals have to contribute our regional dollars for continued spending on a ground which we do not own Also you have posed a problem. What is your solution- where/how should this money be spent fairly to help ALL regional NSW, from the south to the north so that no area is left out? Perhaps, the different regional zones that are already in place Metro, Northern etc. could gain the benefit of their own extremely hard efforts in running shows etc simply by keeping monies raised within their area for improvements, ground purchase. -
Should Regional Areas Have To Support Erskine Park.?
klink replied to klink's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Showdog, thanks' for your comment. Would you not agree that the controlling body in whatever sport has the responsibility to provide " services " for ALL its' members/affilliates not just those in major cities ? -
Should Regional NSW have to financially support Erskine Park. ( at the expense of their own region. ) I personally dont' think we should. Of all regional exibitors probably less than 10% use Erskine Park. for many reasons, distance, cost , venue , Time etc. We are continually contributing our regional dollars for continued spending on a ground which we do not own. In addition to our monies being spent at no benefit to the regional areas we are still charged fees for this fees for that with absolutely no finanicial benefit to our areas'. IMO its' about time we tried to alter the status quo and get a fair deal for country NSW. If the above comments apply to the other states the same goes' for them as well.

Vic's Breed Ban - 'good Dog, Bad Dog' - Article In Today&#
klink replied to Alkhe's topic in In The News
PW, I could not agree more with your comments, some time ago I posted the suggestion of the requirement to obtain a licence to own/purchase a dog. I also feel that like the current firearms laws we require a 14 day cooling off period prior to purchase during which time councils etc. carry out a property inspection to verify confinement arrangements. This in my view would certainly stop the impulse buying (for little johnnies sake ) and give some time to prepare for the dogs arrival if you proceed with the purchase. I think also that the licence is issued ONLY for the property declared to be the expected residence of the dog, and thus avoid phony addresses. I am aware that some of these proposals will raise a few eye brows but so be it if we are going to minimise the spate of incidences involving dogs. -
We owned two white cats some years ago who would accompany my wife and I for our afternoon/evening walk of about a klm and a half around suburban Terrey Hills in Sydney..... together with our 65 kg. Rottweiler and our German Shepherd who both loved the cats; dearly. They all slept together with never a problem. We no longer have cats as when they passed we did not replace them as our Rottweiler breed grew over the years to 14. We still like cats.

[size HOORAY, BRING IT ON TO AUSTRALIA !!!!!

In relation to the above article, there are currently programs running in the school system at the moment addressing the issues with dogs' and children. e.g. The responsible Pet Ownership Program which has had great success amongst' young children. Children as we all know are at the forefront of injuries from dogs' ( of all breeds ) and the continued media hype re certain breeds does nothing but damage attempts to address our problems. Many countries have tried to ban certain breeds and have found that makes no difference. IMO not only do children need to be educated and informed of procedures to minimise their risk of injury, but just as critical is the need for adult education. Over the years some of the doggie' comments made by dolers sometimes helps me realise the enormity of the problem when many of us so called experts differ so much with our solutions and handling of the cause of all of our dramas',, which simply is us! the dog owners/breeders.
-
Surely, any of us that have been showing for any longer than half a dozen shows knows what goes' on. We all know and they all know, and at the end of the day should we not just ENJOY our beautiful dogs and the company of good friends, or am I being a little naive ? Nothing we all moan about will change the situation because those running the organisation have been groomed by the system so why would they want to clean it up ....would you ? Having shown for over 28years nothing has changed, sorry it has its' got worse. We can all recall many incidents over the years that have made the showing experience unpleasant but now i just try to enjoy the day out, win or lose. It has be said many many times by us all , at the end of the show we all take the best dogs home.

I assume by your comments, that it should also not be allowed to remove xtra "bits " eg. fingers toes etc on new born babies a procedure done frequently at hospitals today as they were born as "nature intended ".

Need To Update List Dogs That Kill In Aust
klink replied to kylielou's topic in General Dog Discussion
I read regularly posts re BSL and I am continually amazed at some of the positions taken on this subject by fellow DOLers. EVERYBODY with half a brain knows that it is not the breed that is the problem, it is US< period. Until councils, govt. etc .pull their collective heads from you know where and address the cause of the problem ( US ) and do something constructive about it instead of political responses to this subject a lot of breeds are doomed. Many breeds are not my choice but I will defend the right to own any breed that I choose.( I do not own apts ) We all need to look past the apt and realise that our rights are gradually being eroded away from us while we all sit around and whinge amongst ourselves The bottom line is and always should be, you are responsible for your dogs' behaviour, If you control the situation that your dogs get into you minimise your risk....simple. If you dont' contain your dog securely and any other animals you own you deserve to suffer any legal penalty as a result of your inability to do so. My only other comment would be that all those people that think BSL is not going to worry them ....think again, that what was said early days' with the prospect of a ban on tail docking, and so it moves on and on and on. -
I thought that I would post this subject to gauge the type on response one could expect from fellow ,breeders/ exhibitors in obtaining support to reverse the current ban on tail-shortening in the many breeds affected by this ban. As you are aware the banning of this procedure is not in place in New Zealand as it was not considered to cause pain etc. when done by banding at three days old by suitibably qualified people. Thoughts please.

We have all been aware of the many claims and counter claims made by all sides in the taildocking argument and comments made by myself in previous posts reflect my opinion after having been involved to a fair degree in some of these discussions re the impending docking ban. My main point is that the Rottweiler clubs, except for one or two members did very little to try to lobby Govt. etc as a unified group and thus contribute to other breed clubs facing the same problem. The Rottweiler clubs only considered imo their own interests and noboby elses. I have no problem with those that wish to retain the tails on their breed, but I do have a problem with them stopping people having choice all because of vested interests. Sadly the canine bodies did very little, and as usual too late to offer their members any chance with this ban,But we will fight on.
-
No One cares, this is a good news story, why would we expect any media coverage for this ......this wont' sell papers.
-
Off Topic............. Could you please verify your statements that I have bolded, as I am really struggling to understand why you have said what you have and what you mean by it all? Please do enlighten me and qualify your statements?????? Oh....... to be very clear I am all for freedom of choice! Edited to add; Fraud should never be an acceptable practice period. The comments made by Nowstarin clearly show the mis information that is present re taildocking, and i dont' really see any point in going through the numerous other stories and mis truths bandied about over the years by the various sides in this debate. I would like to say that for many years I was involved in Rottweiler clubs ,and I have been involved in many discussions during the pre docking days through to the current ban and the concern by the clubs re overseas judging , particularly Germany not being allowed to judge docked dogs was a real ( if not foolish ) concern for the clubs. The Rottweiler clubs simply rolled over and not only let themselves down but their breed, the rest of the docked breeds, many of whom are still fighting the ban. The bad sportsmanship against people with a legally docked Rottweiler is at times shameful.IMO the ban has done the breed no favours. I personally know of a docked dog being told that he cant' be placed by an overseas judge because of the tail missing.
-
I whole heartedly agree with this person being fined etc. Not for the docking but for the misrepresenting of her puppies which I consider much more serious. Bobtails have been around forever in many breeds and i find the absolute garbage being dished out by the Rottweiler Clubs in this country a disgrace. If tail shortening was allowed tomorrow they would jump at the chance. The truth behind their stand is dear old Germany! they were told early days that their judges would not judge dogs without tails, so stop the false statements to denigrate people who wish for freedom of choice to dock or not. It is common knowledge amongst the dog world that your clubs contributed to the ban on tail docking. and we wont' forget.

BSL> does' not work....period. Banning a dog based on its' breed to try to prevent attacks is like banning Holden cars because they are involved in more accidents than other makes...rubbish. It is about time councils, governments etc. stopped all the B/S and held dog owners liable for their dogs behaviour and containment ,instead of making a phony appearance to be actually doing something constructive. If you scan the net there are many examples of bsl making NO difference to attacks . It has been tried in the Netherlands, Canada, and Europe ( APT in holland. ) Check....Cincinnati law review 1982 Vol 53 page 1077. My dogs are MY responsability , NO one elses. Smaller breeds bite more often But dont' cause the same damage, is that alone justification for bsl. I dont' think so.

Pav lova. I guess we should not be surprised at your comments, it makes me wonder what else you might have to do to assure yourself of a win.A very disapointing attitude towards participtating in our sport.
