  1. I disagree, my dogs are perfectly happy in my bedroom and would love to allowed on the bed 24/7. Really? My dogs would probably need to go outside to eliminate at some stage. They presently have the option of lying on my bed 24/7 but they choose to be wherever I am in the house or out in the yard.
  2. I can understand putting the dog in the bedroom for a couple of hours. We've all had to do that for some reason or another but putting the dog in the bedroom for the whole day is a bit much for the dog.
  3. Thank you for your kind words. Your son has been in my thoughts since we spoke and I hope things are looking brighter for him. This is a very stressful time for you. Your coping skills are amazing. Your son is fortunate to have a strong, caring mother.
  4. Judging others for their attitude is unhelpful as is judging us as being highly irresponsible. People are entitled to hold whatever attitude they wish. Most of us on here are responsible dog owners. We don't take risks with children and our dogs? Many people have fears but we don't normally voluntarily cause those fears to be a problem for the host of the home where we have invited ourselves and our children to spend the day. Since you don't 'do' kids you probably have very little understanding of the problems involved in having a dog phobic mother with dog phobic children in the house for an entire day, particularly when there is a problem with containing the dog away from the fearful people. You have boarding kennels so containing your dog for the day would not be a problem. For most of us it is not so easy.
  5. My order arrived on Thursday afternoon. It was very well packed and the cologne is to die for. My dogs smell delicious. Steve included a free sample of conditioner for the dogs and some tea bags for me. Many thanks Steve, you went to so much trouble to pack my order beautifully.
  6. Presumably these people know you have a dog and they've chosen to come and spend the day at your home. I would not be altering Bruno's routine at all. If these people have a fear of dogs, in my opinion they can either get over or find a way to keep themselves in control. Surely they must know Bruno is not going to eat them alive. They're coming into his home by choice so let 'em deal with it. I mean really, what do they expect you to do with Bruno for the duration of their visit? Parents who impart their fear of dogs onto their children do their kids a disservice. My neighbour has two small boys (4yo and 6yo) who are terrified of my Cavaliers though they know the dogs won't bite them. If Mum comes to my door with the kids and accepts my invitation to come inside I pay no attention to the kids squealing and jumping around if the dogs happen to walk near them. My dogs are not much interested in the kids either after the initial greeting. I sure am not going to crate the dogs for their benefit. They chose to come inside my dog's home so they can suck it up.
  7. It's unfortunate that she put her name to it S'n'T. She'll be remembered for stating 'her' view on vaccinating dogs. If Greencross are so desperate for the vaccination dollar that they're spouting out of date information, they should have put it forward as their general view rather than having one of their vets put her name to it.
  8. When I used to take my Rottie swimming at the Dogs in Motion pool she was interested in greeting other Rottweilers to the exclusion of other dogs there. There was no playing was so it wasn't that which interested her. I think they do recognise their own breed.
  9. When I was walking my Rottie on lead through a small walk through park near my home I had some guy who was coming towards me walking what looked like a scungy mop, yelling at me saying it was the law that all Rottweilers must be muzzled in public in Victoria. I was foolish enough to argue the point with him. My Rottie completely ignored the frantic barking, screaming and pulling on lead of the mop. At least we could see which was the pointy end of the mop when it started pulling on the lead. I walked off with this man still yelling and threating to report me.
  10. Vets like Dr Prue Stanley are a worry. We rely on our vets to keep themselves informed and up to date with current practises when treating our animals. If Dr Prue Stanley and the Greencross vets knowledge regarding the frequency of vaccinations is so outdated we have to ask what else they don't know and haven't bothered to learn about. edited to put the e in Prue.
  11. If you intend to use a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement, choose one that also contains MSM. I use a human preparation for my dogs. Wagners make a gluc/chon/MSM powder. Natures Way make the combination in a tablet. I use the Wagner powder added to their BARF mealfor the dogs and take the Natures Way tablet myself.
  12. I'm in the Monash Council and you're right, the rates are now very expensive in comparison to what they were a few years ago. We have huge increases every year. I can't help but wonder what these very expensive 'Pet specific services' are that Mayer Geoff Lake is talking about. I haven't been aware of any such services in the past by Monash City Council. If there are these services I'd like to know what they are. Perhaps he's talking about the contract fees with the RSPCA.
  13. Health food store will stock 20+. I give it to my dogs mixed with a spoon of yoghurt and they just lick it up from a saucer.
  14. aliwake: I would be taking him to the vet as it's unclear what is wrong with him. It could be any one of the conditions mentioned here.
  15. I imagine the Ranger told HazyWal that the application had to go Court. There's something going on with this Ranger. What possible reason, considering the vicious attack, could the Ranger have for not declaring the dogs as menacing? It appears even though the owner of the dogs has not even carried out the instructions to put a lock on the gate, the Ranger is doing absolutely nothing about it. Why...is the question. I would be going onwards and upwards at the Council HazyWal. Can you speak to the Ranger's superior officer? She must be accountable to someone. Maybe her superior can explain why this Ranger is failing to take action. By do nothing the Ranger is placing other dogs and their owners in danger if they walk along the street where these dogs live. I think it's a reasonable question to ask someone in authority at the Council why these dogs are not being declared as menacing. That seems to be a less challenging effort by the Ranger than declaring them as dangerous. The dog owner must also pay all vet bills and Hazywal's medical bills but for this, legal action may need to be taken. However that's a separate issue and she did show her intention to do so by paying the first vet bill
  16. I have never messed with my dogs or my rescue dogs food once they have been given permission to eat. I have never had a resource guarder. My dogs eat in the same room at the same time. Remember Firm but FAIR. I don't believe it's fair to take away a dog's food before it has finished eating once you have given it permission to eat. I need my dogs to respect me, cooperate with me and trust my decisions. They're obedient and well behaved. They will spit out whatever they have in their mouths ifI give them a short 'out' command. There is no resource guarding issue.
  17. A lady who lives in a house that backs onto a large off lead park in my area used to open the gate and let her little dogs run into the park. Her two small breed dogs went missing never to return.
  18. Yep. Local members for your ward (if you have them), Mayor, General Manager, Animal Companion Manager etc. So sorry you've had such a bad time - but onya Stan for keeping your girls amused! Actually, why can't the council go for Menacing rather than Dangerous? Isn't that the point of having the new rules? Agree with every word of this ^. Why can't the council go for menacing dogs? Keep at them, remember the squeeky wheel gets the most oil? You would think the Ranger could do something about these dogs. I'm not convinced they can't do anything, just concerned that they won't do anything. What exactly are the Ranger's duties? HazyWal my thoughts are with you.
  19. Yes, I wouldn't be at all surprised if his legs got hot wrapped in plastic. Please find some material that breathes in which to wrap your dogs legs. I would not use plastic.
  20. Ermm no. What she does learn by you taking her food away half way through eating is that you can't be trusted not to steal her food. I can't see any good reason why dogs should not be allowed to eat their meal in peace without a human interfering with their food bowl. If you want to ensure your dog knows the food belongs to you, you put the bowl on the floor and have her sit and wait until you tell her she may eat. Then you let her eat without interference. This way she knows the food belongs to you until you allow her to eat.
  21. You would use the lock function on the door if you don't want it to open at night or when you're not home.
  22. The auto slide door looks great, I'd love this option for my dogs but I bet it's way out of my price range.
