  1. Why can't you take her outside on lead and teach her to eliminate outside? She can't be stolen if you are holding the other end of the lead. Of course, like any other 14 week old puppy, she should be left inside the house when you go out. I'm not a fan of pee pads. The teach a dog it's ok to pee/poop inside the house.
  2. I don't think it would have happened at night Anne. It's unlikely ducks would be wandering around at night. It was more than likely dark by the time the photo of the car wreck was taken. If she had time to get out of the car, leaving the door open and a witness saw her on the road bending over the ducks, her car must have been stationary for quite a few seconds. I wonder why the deceased motor cycle rider didn't see the car and have time to steer around it before smashing in to the back of it. What a tragedy. Two people dead and one kind hearted person who was trying to help animals and who had no intent of harming anyone now has to serve jail time.
  3. Agreed. A large dog would be dangerous. A Cavalier KC Spaniel has a small mouth and tiny teeth. I doubt he has any capacity to seriously wound anyone. Plus the dog is a sweet natured friendly dog as is usual for this breed. Unfortunately he's a resource guarder.
  4. Yep, I know that can happen with some registered breeders. I had the same thing happen when I contacted the registered breeder of my Rottweiler about a health problem my dog had. She lost interest very quickly and I didn't hear from her again. I'd say your opinion on that ^ is absolutely correct. If I were you I would not again ask the assistance of the trainer who suggested resource guarding is a symptom of anxiety and you should consider medication. Anyone can call themselves a dog trainer but that doesn't make them one.
  5. Yep, I see them circling the wagons already. How can the general public who are aware of the behaviour of these hooligans ensure that some action is taken instead of a series of useless time wasting investigations? Well done AFP
  6. There is no way I would be taking this tiny little dog out of hospital even for a short period until that sharp object is well and truly out of her intestines either by surgical means or naturally. I would not take the very real risk of removing her from the expert professional care and supervision she needs. There is nothing magical about Metamucil, it's just an oridinary, every day fibre. I would certainly not bring her home even if you have the intention of taking her back. It would be far too stressful for her and as you were advised, they can't book the scanner or hold it up for you.
  7. I don't have resource guarders here but I do have two Cavaliers. This is certainly unusual behaviour for the Cavalier KCS breed. They are usually very easy going little dogs. Have you discussed the problem with the breeder? If so what did he/she say about this behaviour? The breeder surely must have seen this dog exhibiting this behaviour with the litter mates considering that the dog was resource guarding a toy from you at the tender age of 8 weeks old. As you are in NSW I agree with persephone. Contact K9Pro. I feel sure they will be able to help you.
  8. Am I missing something? Why would anyone want to enter their dog in this appalling competition? Is there money at the end of it or something? Surely there must be some incentive. As for Jason Wurtz holding his dog by the skin of its back, animal cruelty anyone?
  9. You mentioned you sprayed the wound with Betadine. Good news that he's leaving the incision site alone. I have my dogs on a glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM joint supplement made by Wagners. It's a powder and you need to work out the dose for your dog. All the supplements I use are from the chemist. edited: because I didn't read the question properly before replying.
  10. OMG I just watched the video. Who would think those idiots were police officers? Their behaviour is what we have come to expect of roaming hooligans who are out looking for trouble and if there's none to be found they'll create some. Surely any self respecting officer of the law would charge a person they witnessed carrying out this behaviour - if the perpetrator wasn't fellow police officer. Are there no restrictions on when and why a police officer can use capsican spray? Surely they're not permitted to use the spray for their own amusement. I just hope this incident doesn't get lost in the confusion of those multiple investigations.
  11. Tazar don't put anything on the incision. It needs to be kept dry. Also please don't even consider putting a rubber band on the leg. That would be dangerous. Call your vet and tell him your dog is bothering the incision. The vet will probably have a solution. For sure he/she often deals with this problem.
  12. Exactly Christina. This animal torturing thug and his two side kicks who thought it was so funny are not the kind of people who should be in the position of power and authority the police enjoy. Society has the right to expect our police officers to be sound of mind as well as of body. It is not normal behaviour to be so sadistic and cruel as to torture an animal who could not protect itself. This thug has proven he is not mentally sound and should be dismissed from the police force. In addition the two cruel morons who thought it was amusing entertainment should be suspended indefinitely and receive psychiatric assessment before they're allowed to return to duty. Even then they should be restricted to a desk job rather than having the power to apprehend people. Police officers are not above the law and should not be seen to be so. As for those who say the thug should be subjected to a similar torture as he imposed upon the dog...Exactly how would this make us better or more sound of mind than he is. edited because I can't spell.
  13. Is he actually bothering the incision or are you worried that he might do so? If he's not bothering it then leave well enough alone. My dog who had TPLO surgery was bandaged for the first week and when the surgeon examined her on day 7 he removed the bandage. My dog didn't bother the incision at all even though it was not covered.
  14. You need to have this dog examined by a vet. Sitting like a frog means nothing, many pups sit like that. I have an older dog who still sits like that and she doesn't have hip dysplasia. He's just a puppy there may be nothing wrong with the way he walks, at this age. If he's not showing any sign of pain or lameness I wouldn't worry but for your own peace of mind, take him to the vet.
  15. There are thugs on both sides of the law. This officer should have to face animal cruelty charges the same as any other person who tortures an animal for their own amusement. It's very nice that the police 'are taking this matter seriously' and that 'a professional standards investigation is ongoing'. They also state the matter is 'subject to an ongoing internal investigation' but what are they actually investigating? How many investigations do they require? They've seen the CCTV footage. They've got the proof they need. And the other two officers who were seen on the footage to be laughing while the moron was recording the dog in distress and then threw a stick at it. Are they not accomplices to an illegal act? Will they be charged? This must not be swept under the carpet. The police need to stop futzing around with time wasting investigations and charge this thug. efs
  16. Thinking of you DDD and hoping for the best for Myrtie.
  17. Really, people who are suprised their dog could die if they leave it in a car on a hot day must be missing a few brain cells. An excellent decision by the Magistrate. I hope all states take note and prosecute anyone who leaves a dog in a car in warm weather. As the RSPCA chief inspector said, the message has been out there for years yet people are still putting their dogs at risk.
  18. I understand how you feel. Unfortunately scoring is not done for ligaments. My pup was also from a registered breeder and the parent dogs were health scored of course. My pup was only 16 months when the first ligament partially ruptured and after the surgery the surgeon, Wing Tip Wong, advised me the other knee would probably go within a year. He was correct, the ligament in other knee did partially rupture exactly a year later. This is despite me taking my dog to a heated hydrotherapy pool three times every week for the entire year. I thought swimming was the best exercise for her. When I called the breeder to tell her she advised me my pup's dam had the same problem. Great! What I needed from the breeder was moral support and advice. I was devastated for the pup I loved beyond words. I never spoke to the breeder again. She moved house and changed her phone number. We didn't all have mobile phones back then. Clearly she had no interest in the pup she bred.
  19. They're definitely not Black Russian Terriers. Could you tell us which breed of black terriers are they? They're nice looking dogs. eta: I see you're describing them as Melbourne bred black terriers but that is not a recognised breed.
  20. Homeriver, can you tell us more about how the pup was diagnosed? Who xrayed and diagnosed HD? The pup is too young for an accurate, positive diagnosis at this age. If in fact he does have HD and you bought him from an ethical breeder you may well be offered a refund but this would more than likely mean returning the pup to the breeder. Are you prepared to return him? Have you contacted the breeder? If not you should do so.
  21. We expect better from our ethical registered breeders than we expect of BYB breeders and pet shops. That's why we buy our pups from registered breeders. I have no expectations of BYB's or pet shops when it comes to rescue. They are beneath respect or expectations. I do expect a registered breeder to take some responsibility for a dog they bred. I have only ever had one rescue dog of a particular breed who's breeder was able to be identified. The breeder was neither helpful or even interested that a dog they bred was on the PTS list. I was able to take this very nice dog dog and rehomed him 3 months later. On other occasions assistance was asked of breeders when a dog of their breed was impounded and needed rescue that I couldn't take because I had too many dogs (including rescue dogs)and I was flying under the radar with council restrictions. None the breeders of this breed offered to assist in any way.
  22. He's probably cold. The nights in Vic are freezing now and the laundry is a cold room with tiles and no heating.
  23. I don't think anyone would begrudge her DDD. The poor little girl needs all the help that medical science can give her. I'd just hope someone is keeping those in charge of the money honest.
