Agree. Off to the vet today. A used warm tea bag gently rested on the eye may bring some relief from pain or discomfort while you await your vet appointment.

You might want to look at Sentinel Spectrum. It does all intestinal worms including tape worm. Heartworm prevention and is a flea contraceptive. My 10yo and 9yo dogs have been on this product all their lives and have never had fleas or worms. It is a once a month flavour chew. This product it not suitable to chop in halves. You buy the correct dose for the weight of your dog.

I wonder how those Demodex mites who come out at night to procreate on our faces manage with the face creams most women use at night. Do they find the face cream like having to walk though a vat or oil or are we adding a totally new dimension to products like KY Jelly.

Mac's 12 Month Anniversary - 23 June 2014
cavNrott replied to westiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh look at the marvellous Mac. Bless him I remember when he had his surgery, it doesn't seem 12 months since it was done. Glad to hear he's doing so well, Westiemum. -
It sounds like you need a new vet. My vet would never take advantage of me by booking any of my dogs in for surgery without first discussing it at length with me. If he thought HD surgery was indicated he would refer us to a specialist. I think we're getting ahead of ourselves with discussion about HD surgery for fabel's pup. She is not at all sure the pup has any problem with his hips.

Should I Bother Asking The Vet About This?
cavNrott replied to raineth's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
So sorry Raineth. I know from experience how desperately we want to do the right thing when palliatively caring for our dogs. Quality of life is what counts. Glad you're vet has given you the go ahead to do what you instinctively knew was best for your dog. to you. You needs lots of them when doing what you're doing for your dog right now. -
Of course agree with you. I speak only of an initital vet visit as the first call when an owner suspects there's a problem...which is the case here according to the OP's post. Her local vet should be able to read an xray with sufficient skill to detect the possibility of a problem and refer on to a specialist. Local vets are not completely clueless at reading xrays. My Rottweiler had what I suspected was a ruptured cruciate ligament. My vet did the initial xrays and agreed that we needed a specialists opinion. The specialist of course did further xrays and TPLO surgery was scheduled and performed. I would not have scheduled TPLO bone surgery only upon my vet's diagnosis and reading of the xrays. I'm certainly aware that to have a dogs hips scored, the xrays can only be read by a specialist.

Send a PM to Staffyluv. Her lovely old dog Ollie had a number of mast cell tumours. Staffyluv has a wealth of experience and information about mast cell tumours that I'm sure she will be prepared to share with you.

Of course our local vets are quite capable of a general reading of xrays. It is when surgery is more than likely necessary that a specialist evaluation is required. If a vet feels that a specialist is required for a more conclusive reading of the xray they will refer you. To say general vets don't know how read xrays would be like saying our GP's are not able to read our xrays and they are quite capable of doing so. They have a good idea if, based on their interpretation of the xray, that we need specialist advice.

Excellent news BC. The vet visit was well worth it and as an added bonus your girl behaved beautifully. She's on the mend now
-
I just had a look at the Go Fund Me Site and the family of that little girl are able to 'withdraw' at any time and take all the money donated to them Now if they were legitimate would they not wait until they reached their goal? Instead now that people are questioning their credibility they withdrew all the money that was donated. I smell a scam
-
I don't know anything about Go Fund Me but I hope the family members of this child were not able to get the donated money in their hands a do a runner. I hope that isn't the way that site operates.
-
So glad she behaved well for you at the vets. Now hopefully you'll see a very fast recovery and she'll be back to normal.

They're not cheap once you calculate the shipping charges. Wow $61+ for one medium crate shipped to Australia. -
Act Police Officer Cap Sprays Tethered Dog
cavNrott replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in In The News
The AFP need to be open and honest about exactly what they intend to do about this matter. Just because none of their officers have been witnessed behaving like this before doesn't mean it hasn't happened. They were just unlucky that this time it was captured on camera. All three of those AFP officers present seemed to think it was fun to torment a chained dog. Will anything happen to to other two idiots who were party to this? And this lot are Animal Cruelty Inspectors? God help the animals! I'm very suspicious of the police investigating the police. If they say anything at all it will be what they think we want to hear. It's a sad fact that we can't trust our police. -
Excellent BC. Please update us after you've seen the vet. I hope it's something easily fixed. It's a PITA when one of our dogs is stressed out by vet visits. Makes it very stressful for you too.

Oh that poor little dog. How on earth could they encourage this cruel piece of shyte and his appalling treatment of his dog by declaring him the winner. If those running this stupid contest were even half way responsible they would have called the RSPCA or whatever their equivalent is, on this cruel b@stard. The proof of his cruelty is on record for all to see. This idiotic contest should be banned and the idiots entering their dogs should be ordered to receive some psychiatric assistance.

As she's had it for three days, going on four days and is getting worse I would take her to the vet ASAP. Can you get an appointment for her today?

I'd say it doesn't get rid of existing plaque or my 10yo boy wouldn't have needed the only dental he's ever had. My 9yo girl gets no plaque yet both dogs have the same diet and the same quantity of the seaweed product added to their food. I suspect this is because girl will patiently chew a large dental rice bone after meals and the 10yo boy won't, he just carries it around. Chewing the rice bone probably scrapes the plaque away. The seaweed product softens the plaque so you can scrape it off with a scaler. My boy isn't happy for me use the scaler. Probably because he only gets plaque on the two molars right at the back of his mouth. The best thing to keep dogs teeth perfectly clean are raw meaty bones. None of my dogs have ever needed a dental when they were having RMB. When I had to stop giving them the 10yo developed plaque.

It's added to wet food. If you feed dry you'll probably need to mix it with some yoghurt.

Canada - Woman Stops To Help Ducklings
cavNrott replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in In The News
Isn't it human nature to try to avoid hitting anything on the roads, including or especially live animals? I doubt I could steer straight ahead if I saw a live animal directly in front of my car. Instinct would kick in and I would try to swerve around it. If I did hit the poor animal chances are I would be rear ended anyway because for sure I would have hit the brakes. In any case if a car does collide with a large size animal would the car still be facing directly ahead? Unless of course if the animal was large enough to be seen as an immovable object. -
Canada - Woman Stops To Help Ducklings

If a following car was able to drive around the stationary vehicle and the convicted driver was seen walking along the road back to her car then her car had been there for a while. I can't fathom why the motor bike rider didn't steer clear and ride around the stationary vehicle. Seeing the extent of the damage to the vehicle indicates he probably collided with it at full speed. Either way this tragedy has resulted in the death of two people and woman who has lost her husband and her child. To be following behind and witnessing this makes her suffering so much worse. I don't think the convicted woman should spend time in prison. Surely her sentence could be served doing some form of community service. I'm sure she'll suffer a lifetime of guilt for the death of those two people. She's not a danger to the community so I can't see there's anything to be gained by putting her in prison. As an aside: That highway is dangerous. No emergency lane and no adequate shoulder of the highway on which to pull over in an emergency. Any car that had broken down would be just as dangerous a traffic hazzard as the convicted drivers vehicle. -
I'm with Bow Wow and a few years ago my dog swallowed three loquat stones that needed surgical intervention. Within three weeks she swallowed another stone and again she needed surgery. Bow Wow paid out for both claims. They may possibly have change their policy now to cover only one surgery a year.

Ascophyllum nodosum, a particular species of seaweed, is absorbed into the bloodstream & in conjunction with saliva works systemically to stop plaque sticking to the teeth. It does make plaque on the canines easier to remove. Yes, it must do. My 9yo Cavalier has never had a dental and she has always had Ascophyllum Nodosum added to her food. Her canine teeth are as clean and white as the rest of her teeth. She can't have raw meaty bones. Cavaliers are notorious for needing regular dentals so it must work. However my 10yo Cav who also has the product added to his diet does need an occasional dental. This dog can not have RMB either. I can't explain why it seems to work well for one of my Cavs but not the other. Maybe my 10yo boy would need regular dentals rather than just the occasional one if he didn't have this product in his diet. Both dogs also have roo or goat tendons or bully sticks to chew following their meals in the hope of removing plaque.
