  1. JessieA has an agenda. Bow Wow Meow rated the highest of all pet insurance companies on productreview.com.au. They rated 4 stars with 277 ratings. Out of those 277 ratings only 60 were poor or bad. Allianz rated 5 stars but they had only 2 ratings so they're not in the race.
  2. I don't go away. To begin with I have no one to care for my dogs and secondly I would not enjoy my time away from them.
  3. There are not various kinds of Halti. There is only one Halti head harness. There are other types of head harnesses but they are not Halti's. For a well designed head harness I would go with a Halti. I think they're the best. A head harness needs to be fitted correctly.
  4. I pay $2.50 for 100 black scented Doggy Bags from the cheap shops like the Reject Shop that are found in most shopping strips. I prefer the doggy bags to nappy bags because the doggy bags being black, you can't actually see the contents in the bag you're carrying.
  5. I have been with Bow Wow for 5 years. The low start premium is just that, a low start. The following year it will increase by...who knows how much. The increase in my premium for this current policy year was 98% on the previous year. I now pay $100 a month in total for my two dogs which I think is an average premium for 9yo and 10yo small breed dogs. I copy and scan all paperwork for my own records before sending a claim to them and I send everything by registered post. This eliminates any 'lost in the post' problems with claims, which is not exclusive to Bow Wow. Other companies also seem to have a few 'lost in the mail' problems. I advise to always send the claim yourself rather than leaving it at the vets for them to send away for you. You have no record of everything if you take this option and things get lost in the mail. They do insure dogs for life, in that they don't kick them out once they reach 8yo or 9yo. They will continue to insure the dogs for their life span. I have an $8000 accident and illness policy for each of my dogs. The excess is $100 and they cover 80% of the vet bill rather than the 100% they used to cover. However when they did cover 100% my excess was $250. I had initial difficulties with them but now any claim I submit is reimbursed without any problems and without undue delay. I'm quite happy with 80% cover and a much lower excess. I've had just two small claims in the last 4+ years. To sum up: As pet insurance companies go they seem to have fixed the bugs in their system and they send their policy renewal notifications on time, which is important. I have no problems with them and in my opinion, they're quite ok to deal with.
  6. The plastic container was probably more of a danger than the biscuits possibly containing bits of twine. Did your oldie get sick from the quantity of biscuits she ate?
  7. That looks great. Did you tie just one knot or a double knot?
  8. Happy Birthday Renae All three of them looked like they enjoyed the very beautiful looking cake.
  9. The Veterinary Specialist Centre in both Mt Waverley and in Essendon have two well known vets who specialise in animal behaviour. Dr. Kersti Seksel and Dr. Jacqui Ley. You could get a referral to see either of them from your local vet. They will be able to help your little Cav with her issues. I would certainly see a specialist vet before I would give the little girl any drugs for her anxiety even if your vet feels inclined to prescribe them.
  10. Please tell us if your female Cavaliers have been desexed. Before making the decision to get another dog, check with your local council. Many, if not most councils in Victoria have a limit of two dogs per property. If your local council permits, I would add a male rather than another female. If you add another girl there could be squabbles between all three dogs.
  11. Really? Do you mean if the females are entire? I have a male Cavalier and a female Cavalier. My neutered male has shown no mating behaviour towards the spayed female. I have also had both male and female Rottweilers and the neutered males showed no mating behaviour towards the spayed females. The OP did not tell us if her female Cavaliers have been desexed. Perhaps she might add that information.
  12. Oso I would get that in writing if I were you.
  13. Yet this scum gets away without being locked up. Maybe the judge didn't know how he should sentence this trio but the animal loving inmates in most prisons would be pretty adept at making sure justice was seen to be done.
  14. There's another reasonably current thread floating around on pet insurance. Suggest you do a search for it.
  15. I have a couple of spare plaque off spoons. I can send you one if you like. That is so kind of you Gallomph. I would be very grateful Can you PM me your address so I can send you a stamped addressed envelope. I use the little spoon to measure out my dogs joint care powder and I'm taking pot luck since I broke the little spoon.
  16. My dogs are with Bow Wow. My Cav had no previous illness and when he ruptured a disk in his back, the following year when the renewal was due Bow Wow said I would not only be responsible for the excess, which at that stage was $250 but I would also be responsible for 60% of any further back problems. Strangely this has never been mentioned again in any of the annual renewal policies for him. I now pay $99.80 a month to insure both Cavaliers with Bow Wow. I now pay $100 excess and they cover only 80% of the bills. I copy all claim paperwork for my records and register all mail going to Bow Wow. This cuts out their option of claiming they didn't received the claim. After initial difficulties with them, things have settled and they're ok to deal with.
  17. The breeder should have informed the puppy buyer and given her a choice rather than just dropping the puppy off. Is this a registered breeder? I query this as many breeders will not sell litter mates to one buyer unless they know the person is very dog experienced. My boy Cavalier was diagnosed with a grade 1.5 heart murmur at 5 1/2yo. He is now 10yo and his murmur is now graded as 2 to 2.5. I recently had his heart xrayed and that looked reasonably ok but not perfect. He needs no medication and is not coughing or showing any signs of tiredness due to his murmur. My 9yo girl Cavalier was diagnosed with a murmur just last week. It was graded as 1.5 to 2. She is a very energetic dog and shows no sign of slowing down. Her murmur was not discovered when she had a health check last year.
  18. Proden Plaque Off is much cheaper in UK (where I used to buy it). I am now buying Ascophyllum nodosum off DOLer Steve where it is cheaper still I was buying it from the UK too until I realised that we can get exactly the same thing here at a fraction of the price. The only thing I miss is the tiny plastic measuring spoon that came with the Proden PlaqueOff. I use the little spoon to measure other meds for the dogs. Yesterday I broke it and have no idea where I could get something similar
  19. Sheesh an excess of $255 plus 20% of the vet bill when a dog reaches 7 years of age is certainly covering all their bases. The bill would have to be pretty hefty to even warrant a claim.
  20. Vet should make people aware of the top shelf treatment whether or not they know their clients have pet insurance. It should always be an option.
  21. Use Capstar now to get rid of all live fleas on the dog. You can use it daily if necessary. It's safe to use after applying Frontline. I wouldn't bother with flea rinses or messy flea powder that probably won't work. You can flea bomb the house yourself, just follow the instructions carefully. Though it's probably a lot easier to call in a pest control company to spray house and yard.
  22. Kirty, I'm so sorry to hear of the sudden loss of your special girl, Maisie May she Rest In Peace. Godspeed Maisie, you were a good girl.
  23. I'm sorry for your loss, Pesh. Godspeed Chisel
  24. Sentinel is a flavour chew.
