I guess you're not speaking for all Catholics as not all Catholics believe only humans have souls. You must be stating your personal opinion of Catholicism?

It would appear that the LDH operates the same way as PETA. They employ euthanasia to reduce the stray dog population. Why people donate money to this mob I will never understand.
-
Yes, this is usually the case with an owner surrender. An owner surrender is not dealt with the same way as a lost dog.

Can Anyone Explain 'itchyosis Carrier' ?
cavNrott replied to Seren's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If your dog is still biting at the base of the tail you can be fairly sure he/she still has fleas. A bath will not rid a dog of fleas and you didn't mention that you had given him any medication or a topical spray to deal with fleas. -
Homeopathic Vaccination
cavNrott replied to Mrs Rusty Bucket's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I don't think the homeopathic 'vaccination' is an actual injection but homeopathic pills that are given to the dogs. I seriously doubt they work and I wouldn't spend the money. If your dog has previously had all puppy shots plus a booster 12 months after the last puppy shot he/she probably has strong immunity. The only way to tell for sure is to have a titre (or titer) test done. My dogs now 10 1/2yo and 9 1/2yo have not been vaccinated since their booster at 16 months of age. -
Neither would I pay $45 for that and I also would take up their offer of a full refund.

Though that link doesn't work for me and I've only ever seen pics of ticks it definitely does look engorged to me. I hope your little girl is ok Dona.

I hope Lucy is Ok Dona. Will you please update us when you are able to.

Yep I think 26" crates would be plenty big enough. I had a 26" crate but loaned it to a neighbour when she got her pup and she must have forgotten to return it. I've been waiting to see it for 8 years

I agree a large fine is in order but definitely not jail time. Jail is for criminals and this person is a negligent owner of dangerous dogs. I doubt he deliberately set the dogs on the victim. It would have been a good idea had the courts banned him from owning any more dogs. I hope the poor victim was adequately compensated for pain and suffering and is receiving the best of care and counselling for the terrible injuries, both physical and mental.

I have 30" wire crates for my 10.4kg Cavaliers and the crates are plenty big enough. The crate doors are never closed and the dogs sleep on my bed but they sometimes go into their crates during the day for a nap. They always run into their crates when the see me preparing their food as they eat in their crates...doors open of course. I don't think your tiny dogs would need anything larger than 30" crates.

I would be off to the vet for a skin scrape. I would want to know exactly what was causing the bald spots.
-
Dona, I wouldn't bother with soft crates. Id buy a couple of good wire crates. They're much less hassle and you can see exactly what your dogs are doing in a wire crate. I had a couple of soft crates and gave them both away.

Excellent news Dona. How old are the two little ones? Have to say that tiny little girl is too cute for words.

The Flatulence Thread Or...
cavNrott replied to Stressmagnet's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you wish to feed raw Stressmagnet then pop on a pair of gloves to prepare the food. When I was nursing my Rottie who had cancer one of her drugs was highly cytotoxic and I had to double glove to administer the drug and to pick up the poop in the yard. It was suggested by the oncologist that I did not have my very young grandchildren come to my home while my dog was on the cyctotoxic meds. I'm currently feeding Big Dog BARF raw food but there is no need for me to actually handle the raw food, I just scoop it out of the little plastic container with a spoon and pop it into their bowls. -
"funny" Video About Dogs Is Actually Disturbing
cavNrott replied to RuralPug's topic in General Dog Discussion
That silly bloke was lucky his GSD didn't alter the conformation of his face. A few of the SWF owners were also lucky they didn't end up needing their arm stitched up. I don't think that video was the least bit amusing. The only cute part was the pup sitting in the water bowl. I'm lucky my dogs rather like a bath and will stand perfectly still while I bathe and dry them. -
Why people have open compost heaps in their yard to which they keep adding food I will never know. Surely even the most stupid of people must realise they will be feeding and boosting the local rat and mouse population. We had vermin problems a few short years back. The rats were running along the fence but didn't venture into my yard as far as I know. Had they done so my two Rottweilers and even my Cavaliers would have dispatched them without preamble. The rats were feeding from an open compost heap in the property behind mine. My next door neighbours and I asked the council to intervene as our pleas to the compost owner were ignored. I offered to buy them a compost bin and was told where I could put it. The council rep was fortunately a Rottie owner and lover so we got along famously. He inspected their property and told me there was evidence of rats breeding there. He told the bogans at the back they were to clean up their yard and get a compost bin. The council rep said he would be back in 10 days to see that they had complied. When he returned they didn't answer their door so he came to my house to ask if he could climb on the back fence to see what had been done. Of course they'd done nothing so they were advised via a note under their door that they would be fined unless the compost heap was gone within 5 days. This time they did get rid of it and our vermin population eventually decreased. If I ever sell this house and move I will be poking my head over the fences before I buy another property. I won't buy if there are birds kept on neighbouring properties as they attract vermin and I won't buy if I see an open compost heap. Vermin terrify me.

My elderly Cavalier girl used to get yeasty ears regularly despite the vet's effort to eliminate or deal with the problem. Some 4 years ago after speaking with many dog owners in USA whose dogs had problematic yeasty ears I decided to try a product called Zymox. Zymox is not available in Australia but is evidently widely used in USA. I import this product for my use and have found it to be very successful. At the first sign (whiff) of yeast, and I smell the ears frequently, I pop a few drops of Zymox in her ear for 5 days. Viola! no yeast infection. I now keep this product on hand at all times. I have not had my dog to the vet for yeasty ears since using Zymox. It is available without prescription but it's necessary to import it. Zymox evidently deals with bacterial infections as well as yeast. However if I thought my dog had a bacterial infection I would of course have her to the vet as antibiotics would probably be called for. Yeasty ears are easily identified by the distinctive odor. Zymox is not cheap but in comparison to the cost of the frequent vet visits this little dog needed to deal with the yeasty ears it's a steal. My dog will still get a yeasty ear after being bathed by the groomer who invariably gets water in the dog's ears but I deal with the problem as soon as I smell that very familiar yeast. I thought I would throw this info out here in case it helps someone whose dog is plagued with yeasty ears. I feed raw and my dog has probiotics daily so her formerly yeasty ears are not due to a poor diet.

Funny you should say that Mal. I thought my old girl was an absolute stunner at the time but looking back at her pics now she was not the raving beauty I thought she was but she was a solid, well rounded girl. Courageous, steady nerve...she had it all.

Felix was certainly a grand dog. My girl from Felix unfortunately had entropion and suffered through three surgeries before the vet got it right. I also have a copy of the book. You did well with the instructions, nice photo.

Adaptil For A Dog That Is Scared Of Thunderstorms
cavNrott replied to kamuzz's topic in General Dog Discussion
I sprayed the inside of my car with Adaptil spray about 10 minutes before I put the dogs in when I last took to the groomer. My little deaf Cavalier gets agitated in the car and screams which makes me agitated as well. I think the Adaptil worked because she was quiet though still seemed a bit agitated. The Adaptil spray is expensive but I'd give it a try for your storm phobic GSD. -
There are instructions on the forum on how to upload pics. Try the search function and see how you go. I won't offer any advice because I have trouble resizing and uploading pics myself and would probably give incorrect advice. I had a Felix Von Magdeburg Rottie in the mid 80's. She was my first Rottie.

I agree Silentchild. In an ideal world that's probably the way it would be. My GSD's were both from working lines. I like the relatively straight back of the working line GSD and don't like the exaggerated sloping back of the show lines.
