  1. the pet loo not sure how much you are willing to spend but have a look at this set up roquen. There are a few places near you that stock them too.
  2. I have a foster who for the last 7 mths has been a very lean cross and would not put any weight on. I saw this stuff in the produce place I shop and thought it wouldn't hurt to try as nothing else was working. He now has a little cover over his ribs that I have not had on him before. His coat is shining and there is barely nothing in my yard to clean up. I have reduced what my girls eat too as their weight was going up and they don't need any extra on. I also found my beagles no longer eat their out put and I can only think that is a good thing. I can only agree with other that the biggest thing to remember is go with what works for your dogs.
  3. So sorry you have lost another so soon Shoey i really feel for you as I just lost the first of my 5 boys to a tumor 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I hope all our furry balls of love and fun are snuggled up together and keep each other company till we meet them again. I pray Basil and Boop stay strong and provide you with loads more loave and cuddles RIP furry ones, look after each other and be good
  4. I'm sorry miss shel, I didn't mean to sound like I was having a go about his weight. He does look like a solid boy but I don't think he looks 15 kgs in those pics? He is more than ready and it is safe to start walking him now, just some short training walks like PW said to get him used to it and to build up his fitness to go longer is a good idea. Keep up the good work raising ??, Sorry I don't know your pups name?
  5. double WoW At 15kgs and not even 6mths old yes I would be walking this pup and reducing either his feed or is it treats Erin please don't panic, your girls look fine in the pics I have seen. My 3yr old girls only weigh 12.5kgs and my vet says they are very healthy. Maybe we have little girls? I don't know but I wouldn't want my girls any heavier.
  6. I think Pix the best way to make others understand what you mean there is, the other treatment would make her sick and with Kaeleighs mentality she may as well be dead. With a low success rate of recovery it would be kinder to give her a quick peaceful out than make her suffer for you to have a few more months or even weeks with her suffering. Ultimately Pix it is up to you and you WILL know what is the best thing to do for her, and there are many shoulders around you to help you get through that choice what ever it may be. The most important thing at the moment is to just enjoy the beautiful *special* girl she is now and worry about the other stuff if or when you need to. Love both you and as always more virtual hugs on the way
  7. bahaha!!!!!!!!!! I can just imagine that scene. trying to change the blankets in their whelping box was always fun. I bet in a weeks time you will have forgotten about the restless nights and everything will be sweet, till her next trick begins LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Now Hedge if you really want the best way to keep her happy at night and not respond to her here is what you do Go back to Cordys and buy Mick or Paddy to keep her company
  9. Their short live span sure sucks doesn't it Shoemonster. I am so sorry you have had to go through another loss so soon. Your sweet girl looks just like my little baby boy Alonso even down to her little white gloves  RIP Betty go play with all the other oldies up there now enjoying their new found freedom. may you find all your favourite treats and be very content
  10. snarferama, I am so sorry for you and your OHs loss today. Give Otto some extra special hugs and don't let him miss his brother. My boys are only 1 but with 4 brothers I dread the day the first one has to leave. When I took one out the other day my OH thought I would come home and he would have to tell me one had passed. Within 1 hour of putting them back together my OH couldn't believe the difference in my boys behaviour. They truly do bond with each other but always have more for us. I hope you get to have many more happy times with Otto. There is another DOLer who lost one brother and the other is still going strong on his own so there is hope. RIP Bonzai, may you find a field of your most favourite treats to keep you happy till the day you all come back together at the bridge
  11. Roo the only reason you would be asked how long you work or are out of the home is so that any dog given into your care would not be left too long on his/her own and cause you both problems. I understand the not wanting your privacy invaded but it is for the sake of matching the right dog to your lifestyle. 99% of rescues would take on board what you tell them and it will never be given to anyone else EVER. I wish you luck in your search
  12. Staffy rescue are located near Windsor NSW. best to call Mina on her mobile (the number is available from their website at www.staffyrescue.org.au )to arrange a time to go out and meet the mum.
  13. so sorry Shoey that her time came. I'm sure she is very happy and playing freely with her sister again waiting at the bridge. RIP Scatterpat
  14. I don't have any suggestions to help stop him but aren't you glad my foster beagle didn't make it up to you. That is the reason she was moved on, she liked to mingle with the sheep
  15. RIP Mushy, there are some very special ratties up there for you to hang with while you wait for your mum. So sorry shoemonster. She must have had a good life to get to 3. Sending you hugs from my boys to you and the ones still with you.
  16. 1 kennel will be fine even as they grow believe me. On the concrete area where these 3 are, were 2 kennels and 2 more of these hessian beds, did they want their own space? No of coarse not I have loads of pics of my girls sharing their beds and kennels with all our foster dogs cause beagles just love company. EFS
  17. Hi adrilea, welcome to DOL and the wonderful life with beagles First off, Caff is right we can sniff out newbie beagles from any where :D I have 2 girls myself. You sound like you have a plan so you are infront straight away Just remember that there are going to be accidents and things that won't go to plan. If you are ready for that and understand it you will be fine. Can I ask which state you are in? You will have to think of the pups at night and make sure their environment is suitable for new babies. IF you put new pups outside from early on remember they may stir each other up and play at inappropriate times. This may include play barking and exploring which may lead to digging and or finding things to chew. I would start crate training from day one even if they are to be outside dogs. The crate can be put outside when you want to move them out and having a familiar safe place will help ease them into moving out. My girls use their crate as a kennel substitute. Also if you were to holiday with your pups you know they can be crated if need be without them freaking out. As for training, you will start well as you seem to know FOOD is their weakness Looking forward to hearing more about your pups and definitely seeing the pics when they arrive. If there are no pics we won't help with any more info :D
  18. so pleased top hear he is back to normal Whern you gt home tonight try a little 5 minute training session and see if that tires him again just before bed. He may just sleep till 7am if you're lucky :D
  19. no no damage has been done. but try and think of him as a human baby (but don't treat him like one ). Would you wake a new born baby? They wake when they are hungry and so will your pup. It will take time but he will learn that there is a suitable bed time and also when it is a suitable time to play.
  20. I can't say he did or didn't pick up something at the RSPCA, but I would get him to a vets IF he starts vomiting or his poops become runny.
  21. Ok keep an eye on him for as long as you can (I know you will have to sleep). It is possible for pups to find things in the yard that aren't too good for them so supervision and finding out what might pose of problem and removing it is a must. If you can make a list of any plants you have in your yard and check with your vet if they are dog friendly. Hope pup is just tired and has you on your toes again by tomorrow. Please keep us updated if there is any change
  22. If you can check his gums, they should be a nice pink colour. Just a thought, were you doing some training this morning with him? He may well be mentally and physically tired if he was over worked. If he is still lethargic and refuses food in the morning I would find a way to get him to the vets for a check up. But keep an eye on him during the night just to be on the safe side. One last thing, have you taken him anywhere this weekend (ie: parks or sports grounds) other dogs might have been? opps you posted while I was typing

    What Breed?

very wise choice Ker As you are part of DOL now, we require procress reports and pics when the new family member joins your family Again good luck in your search :p

    What Breed?

Sorry I missed the part where it was said this dog would be outside most of the time If it was a beagle would become destructive and dig, if left alone, but then 2 beagles would occupy each other (well its a good excuse for having 2 of them :p ) But also WorkingHard has a point that the pound and rescue dogs would feel very privileged to just know love and if researched properly a rescue may be found who would be happy to stay in the yard as long as there was still loads of family interaction at some point during the day/night.

    What Breed?

If you are fine with not letting a beagle off lead (unless its in a fully fenced leash free area), then don't be put off with all this talk of digging and hard to train talk. I have 2 of my own girls and won't be without one ever again. I have also fostered 8 beagles and not one has dug a hole in my yard or tried to escape (unlike some other dogs I've looked after :p ). SACA is a good place to start looking for a registered breeder, you could try the breed pages on DOL or visit some dog shows in your area to meet the breeders and their dogs. Please feel free to PM me if you would like to find out more about living with beagles Good luck in your search
