It can depend. Some 'show' lines with imported or higher drive dogs can still have a decent amount of prey drive, you just wont see it pop up as often or at all in some litters. (This i agree with!!) I guess it depends on what you call decent. I have a showline pup in my SchH/ IPO club that is from show imports with working titles. The dog has very little drive and imo is typical of showline GSD's. Most of the showline GSD's i have seen (be it from imports or ozzie bred) are of a lesser working standard to most of the workingline GSD's I have seen. The same thing is seen around the world as the number of showline GSD's competing at the WUSV's is minimal compared to the number of workingline. --------------------- I can personally say that I would choose a SL over a WL, only because the SL's hips and elbows scores are way better then the WL's atm, however, I would own a sable WL in a heartbeat. WL shepherds are often bought by people who want a dog, little do they know that if not stimulaed the yard, the clothes on the line etc, will be gone from a highly driven bored dog. My girl is just shy of 12 months and her mother was a dead horse, her dad had spunk but i found him irratic. My girl is so prey driven and wants to work constantly. Showing bores her, but we only do it every now and then, however, chuck a specialty collar on and ask her to run and she loves it. One of my colleagues (sp?) owns a black WL bitch, the prey drive is there, however the ability to think whilst in drive. Is not. I find this becoming a reoccuring problem in the GSD lines of both. I may be biased, but whilst training, if i whip out a tug, my pup can hold it together, the WL bitch, cannot. Her daughter has low drives and is disinterested in most food and has nothing to do with toys. So I think if you want to say a SL can't do what a WL can, I think you're wrong. I plan to title my bitch in ANKC obedience and in IPO. She has what it takes. She may be the only one in the litter that does as her brother is exactly like his mother. It doesn't matter whether this dog is WL or SL, what matters is where she came from, what's happened to her, and how much time is spent with the dog daily. See if you can take her home, build her confidence, let her be a dog. As per the STAY issue. Maybe try not walking away. Try telling her the stay command and step straight infront of her, feed her, thats how we teach it in basic class. I'm not having a go at you, or your ideas I just am sick of SL are worth nothing, WL can do anything! stereotype. Without going into a SL v's WL argument, and back to the topic, I would guess that PP's GSD lacks the genetics to display even an average amount of prey drive that should be in the dog. May be worth cutting your losses and finding another dog to study at Uni if you need something with drive....... with that I do totally agree. I dont plug away with the drive I want the dog to use, I let the dog decide what drive will be most effective and rewarding.

It's not my place to say, but dogs of those breeds should not be in normal pet homes. Especially with the dutchies being a new breed to Aus and the ANKC.

So I hear (well, see...) alot of people talking about converting RAW photos, taking RAW photos 1. What does it mean? 2. What are the benefits? 3. Why do you do it? and I've just finished installing Light room (YAY!) I also have normal Adobe PS, Photoscape and good old google born and raised Picasa, which i do most of my playing on at the moment. I'd also like to raise a question that's probably been done before but! I love the B&W photos with a splash of colour. How do I do that? I'm at a loss with my PS and picasa only does a small amount. If I'm being a bother, just let me know? Thanks guys!

Thanks, it was so awkward sitting on the log to get a photo, wanted to take some shots today but the weather conspired against me! grr!

I had a look at these picutures, at first I was affronted and shocked, but something else as well, I find his photos fascinating, He was able to capture the fear in the cow's eyes, I don't know why, But I like his work. I would never hang it in my house, but I like it..

I'm not really into photoshopping, that and i'm only just learning the ropes of the program. I love the vivid, real colour kind of photos. I aim for happy dog photos too. I got told Jedda wasn't photogenic, but I pulled those out of my... well... haha! Willow's is still growing on me, we'll see what happens in a week. Thanks for the comments!!

mmm the log one is growing on me, I'm going to print it out and see what it looks like, but she's done better. Thanks though

Thanks! I'm really happy with most of them, except my girls., oh well!
-
And these of Willow I prefer the log one because of how her feet are placed, her tail hangs down and her mouth is open.

So decided to, after work yesterday, try and get some shots of my friends Staffy x and my girl. Safe to say hundreds of shots later, 9 turned out for the staffy x and 2 of my girl, both of which I'm not entirely happy with. OH WELL! The challenge yesterday was the weather, and placing a stubborn old dog on different surfaces, and a happy go lucky shepherd in positions for a medium sized dog. Jedda (Staffy x):

Thanks, So do I, it's basic and simple but she just holds her "teddy" (but there's more then one!!!) for ages in her mouth, so calmly.

Thanks!! I'm still looking, and as our backyard is small, and... willow has decided she likes to renovate while i'm at work.. not the type to take photos in Can't wait until 52 weeks of 2011!!

Hey guys! SO I'm new to DOL and I own an Nikon D70, And yes, I know this question has been asked and answered before, however 46 pages is A LOT to go through! So I spologise, But I am looking to buy myself either a 1.4 or a 1.8. From what I've seen, the 1.4 is dominating this thread, however... As a starter should I go for the better or the lesser lens? Money doesn't worry me, I've got savings!! I take okay images, I'm harder on myself then what others are on my photos... I wish to better my images, and try new things, hence why I'm looking at getting this lens. As an example, this is my girl Willow at just 10 months ... Very rough and no editing, be critical if you'd like!! If anything I wish she had opened her mouth in two of these photos, it puts her in a more serious light, and Will's anything but serious!!

Hey! So after going through 49 pages of 52 weeks for dogs, I've decided I'm definately doing it next year. And I'd like to get a head start and get some ideas going. I've got a DSLR and am pretty picky with my picture choices, only thing is, I'd like to know of some great places to take pictures. I don;t mind travelling. If you have any idea's... Let me know Regards
