My vet has refused point blank to use this product for almost 2 years, since 2 dogs he used it on ended up contracting and dying from auto-immune haemolytic anaemia soon afterwards. His attitude was that 2 dogs might not seem much statistically, but they were 2 very much loved dogs that died painfully and needlessly. (And the research backs this up as a "side-effect")

Sounds like her body has gone into "starvation mode" the same as people do on a restricted diet. When this happens the weight just won't shift, as the body utilises every last molecule of food. You could try increasing her food intake, so that the body switches this self-protection mechanism off. Try supplementing what you are giving with plenty of steamed, grated or mashed vegies - this way you are adding bulk to trick the body, but not adding weight. Friends have had success with steamed and mashed pumpkin, steamed and diced broccoli stalks, etc. If she isn't sure about the new food, try pouring some liquid from thawing meat or chicken necks over it, or the occasional beaten egg. Also try breaking up the feeds and feed several times a day - have gotten weight off a lot of fat labs thru a chicken neck twice daily, and 2 small feeds. Grazing works on people for weight loss, so worth a try on dogs! And keep up the exercise!

Agree with not using Fort Dodge under any circumstances - even my vet won't touch their products! Just going a bit off topic re vaccine efficacy - the usual party line is that if the person/animal catches the disease they have been vaccinated against, then it will be a milder case - not in this case in the UK - cost the vaccine producer thousands! Vaccine payout

Pups Mum - thanks for those links - have read most of them, but hadn't bookmarked them! This quote is from one of those links - research I have read indicates that adverse reactions in infants/children is about 1 in 175! I thought the kennel cough one was the C5? Never touch it anyway, as so many dogs vacc for KC still catch it! And the intra-nasal form is causing nasal cancers. There was an earlier comment about diseases runnimg rampant if we stopped vaccinating children and dogs - not true - first world countries that have no national vaccination programs have less disease, as most of the diseases were declining due to improved nutrition, sanitation and water supplies. All cases of polio in the US for many years have actually been caused by vaccines! In Japan, since vaccines stopped being given to children under the age of 2, the rate of SIDS has dramatically reduced, but is now happening in over 2's - maybe it should be called "sudden toddler death syndrome" there? And the rate of disease has not escalated.
-
The poor puppy! Medical professionals almost never admit to the possibility of vaccines causing death or injury with dogs or kids - goes with the territory! You only have to read some of these stories to see this... Personal stories of vaccination experiences When vaccinating puppies I always put them on vit c before and after to reduce injury. I never vaccinate them after their 2 puppy shots (9 and 13 weeks) and only ever use C3.

Squeamish? Nahh - used to remove the deceased mouse and give it to one of the cats - the original BARF! OH used to call them "nature's little vitamin pills" (apologies to Juliette de Bairacli-Levy) and would take them out to the cattery, where the cats used to go beserk, all jumping up trying to get it. Many years ago I lived in a rented property with a rat problem - every time my cat heard the rat trap snap he would rush in and cart the rat off like a lion carrying his prey!
-
Go for the traps - cleaner, quicker, safer. Apart from the risk of a pup finding a poisoned mouse, you really don't need bodies decomposing in the back of the fridge! (Had that happen once - native rat, natural causes - took ages to find it) You just need to develop a hair trigger touch in setting it and peanut butter for bait.

Can Humans/dogs Pass Eachother Bugs/viruses
morgan replied to sugar's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Had an entire litter of 6 week old pups come down with tonsilitis caught from a visiting friend's child once. Poor things were unable to eat for days.... -
And this goes back to my original post - I referred to "those dogs whose owners can manage them." Managing them includes having escapeproof housing! Dogs are not only drawn out by intact bitches - there are many reasons dogs will stray - just ask all the desexed houdinis! (And I know lots of those  )
-
I have never had a problem containing my male dogs, but might change my mind if I had working breeds  my experience of those shows they are not as laid back... Don't have a prob with registraton being dearer either, as long as there is still choice!
-
Don't have the slightest problem with this - agree with choice! My problem is with having that choice removed - as is the current trend with councils etc. Some DOLers seem to get very hot under the collar about the necessity of early desexing of pups before they are sold, and breeders like me who refuse to are being branded irresponsible. Regardless of the figures' interpretation, the point about physical maturity etc seems to be valid. Large breeds who have had early desexing often look quite different (not always, but often)
-
No argument with routine speying for those without the facilities to manage entire bitches (which includes most pet owners)! But this article is only about males. The article points out the necessity for neutering in some multi dog households, but correctly management for entire dogs is pretty much the same as for desexed ones isn't it? ie - restrict to one's own property, on-leash restraint etc. I know of many, many desexed males that are far too dog-aggressive to have off leash!
-
Poor boy! Hope it goes well for him! I guess I have been lucky there! But how many dogs would have to have surgery for this reason? Is it better to not routinely desex, unless indicated medically? Or at least wait until the dog is physically matured for his size and breed, as mentioned in the article?
-
As some of you may have gathered by now, I do not approve of the assumption that male dogs must be neutered unless being shown or bred from. I have always considered it to be unnecessary surgery for those dogs whose owners can manage them. I do not like the look of neutered dogs (alteration of body shape, muscle tone and coat patterns, not the obvious effect) I like my dogs to look like they can do the job, not just be couch potatoes, and I have never agreed with the so-called health benefits. Seeing people beat themselves up because they have "failed" to neuter their dog just isn't right. Found this article - and must admit, it seems to back up a lot of what I have come across and observed. I have never desexed a male dog in over 30 years, and have NEVER had a health problem resulting from this, even tho my boys have always been exposed to entire bitches, and most have never been bred from. Castration in dogs Have we gone too far with political correctness?

Sorry Rusky - I had not understood your post! I am old and need punctuation to make sense of some sentences. I tried to answer your queries with sense and reason, but have been vilified in return. The AIDS cure is nothing to do with me - it is being achieved by homoeopaths on several continents. I pride myself on having an open mind, and have spent many years researching and studying these topics, as well as using this information myself. Some people who have taken my advice have actually been cancer-free for many years, after refusing orthodox medicine. I had thought I might actually be able to help some people here explore the possibilities of exploring alternatives and opening their minds to information not given by the media. I understand that this is not possible for everyone, as you have demonstrated. I do not ask for you to agree with me, but I do ask for respect, just as I respect your right to your opinions. I do not appreciated being vilified by someone who has absolutely no understanding of what I was trying to say. BTW - at no stage have I said I was studying for any sort of degree. My university degrees were achieved in non-medical fields.

PS - I am quite impressed! Have been denounced as a charlatan aaannd a racist, all in the one day! Might quit while I'm ahead :D My friends WILL have a chuckle....

Generic products are those whose patents have expired, so that anyone can make them. Patents only last for a specified number of years, which give the companies enough time to recoup their development costs..... Where on earth did I say anything like this? :D For a start, no company has ever said they have a cure for AIDS or cancer - only treatments which might help.. Rusky - I can understand where you are coming from - I remember my bewilderment when I realised the extent of this situation, but instead of berating me, why don't you do some research and satisfy yourself? Google is a wonderful tool! And you will find lots of sites with info on studies and trials and published articles that will back up what I have said.

Ahem - pharmaceutical companies only make money out of pharmaceutical products. Pharmaceutical products are only developed if the particular company can patent them, so that they have exclusive rights to produce and market them. Therefore, if the remedy CANNOT be patented and marketed exclusively, there will be no research, development or clinical trials. They are only "racing to find cures" that they can OWN and sell. Do you understand the problem here? If a cure is "natural", ie vitamins, herbs, homoeopathic, minerals etc, it CANNOT be patented = no magic millions for the shareholders. Now, pharmaceutical companies like making lots and lots of money - they are not in the business for the good of mankind. This is why they spend so much money lobbying govts, funding research grants at universities, free gifts to doctors etc. As they have huge clout with the media due to the massive amount of revenue they inject for their advertising, the media are very careful not to upset them with coverage of alternative medicine. It is called "not biting the hand that feeds you" Are you getting the idea? If you check out the link I posted, you will see that Dr (yes, medical doctor) Fred Klenner, was curing polio and other diseases, and vastly improving MS patients thru vitamin therapy long before antibiotics were discovered. His use of vit c was revolutionary - even the articles he wrote for sporting magazines on vit c treatment for dogs bitten by snakes out in the field saved many lives - could pharmaceutical make lots of money out of vit c? NO - it couldn't be patented. Could they make lots of money out of antibiotics? Yes! What does your doctor prescribe for you if you have an infection? Bear in mind that antibiotics are only good against bacteria, not viruses - yet vit c will fight both bacteria and viruses (technical details of how it works is on the site). Vit C is cheap, easily stored, does not require a prescription or a chemist, and works on incredibly fatal diseases like meningococcal where antibiotics often fail (read Nobel Prize winner Dr Linus Pauling's books) Can you now comprehend why pharmaceutical companies aren't the slightest bit interested in finding alternative cures? And why they manipulate and distort clinical trials to get their drugs past the FDA? And why many doctors aren't interested in promoting them? The almighty dollar wins again.... I can certainly give advice on how to avoid them in the first place, but to fix them up you would have to speak to a qualified practitioner! Alternative health is about looking after your body to avoid life threatening problems as far as possible. Your immune system is your life!
-
No, not a miracle cure, it takes a lot of knowledge and effort, and it doesn't help everyone. But clinical trials have serious limitations, and are very easily manipulated, so they are not the be-all and end-all of research or knowledge. You only have to look at the number of highly dangerous drugs that are released thru the use of clinical trials, that are recalled years later after killing and maiming tens of thousands of people. Use google to investigate what pharmaceutical companies have done to people with "clinical trials", and also check out alternative medicine. You could well be surprised! edited to add a sample site, which has info that has been around for years, but no-one wants to do clinical trials! Vit C
-
Ask the vet to inject him with 10 gms of vit c as soon as he takes him off the anaesthetic. Makes it much easier for your boy to come out of it (detoxifies the system) and vit c is the best treatment for any cancer - just keep him on it orally for a while after the op to boost his immune system (as in weeks or months) The injectible vit c only costs about $11 at the produce store or chemist, and can be kept in the fridge after for treating tick/spider bites etc. Got fingers crossed it'll go smoothly!
-
what do you use? We use a combination of megadoses of vit c and colloidal silver, the amounts depending on how serious the problem is. The horse that nearly died from a massive infection which developed during antibiotic treatment as well as the side effects of the antibiotics themselves, recovered with 20 mls of colloidal silver given 3 times daily and over 50 gms of vit c daily, divided into several doses. As this mare was only hours from death, we also used herbal thuja plus homoeopathic strep and staph nosode, just to cover all the bases! Her stress levels were dramatically reduced by us not having to stick an 18 gauge needle into her muscles every 12 hours as well - she had been terrified of us! Once she realised the syringe only contained liquid to be squirted down her throat she was actually pleased to see us. We use the same treatment on ourselves, and never have to worry about racing off to get acidophilus capsules (which aren't cheap) to counteract the effect of antibiotics. It is also much safer for young pups and kittens, and much easier to administer - and once again, no side effects. Re the AIDS cure, homoeopaths do not buy into the whole clinical trial/publicity crap. They simply do what they do best - treat their patients. Doing double blind trials etc means that innocent people are being denied treatment in the name of the holy grail of scientific research. Mind you, when done by pharmaceutical companies, the ones receiving the placeboes are usually better off than the recipients of the actual drugs...

In one study, 73% of epileptic dogs developed it within 3 mths of being vaccinated.

As clinical trials of anything outside the scope of orthodox medicine for cancer treatment are actually ILLEGAL in the USA, there are none conducted, let alone published. The pharmaceutical companies managed to get such trials banned at federal level some years ago! The AIDS cure I referred to is actually homoeopathic, and is actually a nosode made specifically for that patient, from his/her particular virus - definitely not something that can be manufactured and sold by the pallet load. Homoeopathic medicine was being used while standard allopathic (standard) medical practitioners were still using leeches and mercury, and requires a lot more knowledge than your "natural cocktails" imply! My lecturer in homoeopathy was able to help many AIDS patients. He was treating symptoms and improving their T-cell counts, enabling many to go into full remission after suffering full-blown AIDS. When he was informed of the results of homoeopaths in Sth Africa who had been curing the disease, he decided to try it himself. He chose as his guinea pig a uni lecturer who had been brought into remission after 2 years of full-blown AIDS. This man agreed to the trial, altho there was a risk of going out of remission. After treatment, his blood test came up HIV negative. The doctors were astounded, and did 5 more tests over the next few months - all of which came up negative. Result? Did the doctors clamour to find out how he was cured? Nup - they decided he had never had AIDS in the first place! A girlfriend's daughter who was a qualified homoeopath worked with this same practitioner at his AIDS clinic days, and was amazed at his results. Clinical trials? Can be manipulated and distorted - just ask the FDA! Look at how aspartame was approved against the FDA's advice. The trials had to show that the test animals were tumour free when autopsied at a certain stage, so the boffins operated on them removing cancerous tumours weeks before they were killed and autopsied! Guess what - no tumours!
-
Not so! AIDS has been totally cured to the stage of patient being HIV negative, but you won't see it in the media cos drug companies can't make money out of it. As is the case with cancer. Many people have been sent home to die with terminal cancer and have been saved thru alternative therapies over the last century, but as this is routine, I guess it doesn't qualify as amazing or unbelievable! Beg to differ here - have had cases where standard vet treatment has almost caused the death of an animal, which has then been saved and healed thru immediately stopping ALL vet treatment and substituting alternative treatment. Have also undergone standard medical treatment myself, both in and out of hospital, which has totally failed to help, and only been cured thru alternative treatment. NB - I still use a qualified practitioner for advice, not into prescribing for myself in life and death situations!

It simply takes the edge off anxiety - don't expect it to work like a sedative. Have used it for 20 years on people, dogs, cats, horses, goats, chooks etc - and always have several bottles on hand - stables, kennels, etc. Saved the life of a young horse who had gone down with stress colic, and no vet available. Half a dropper squirted on the gums, and she was up off the floor in 60 seconds, shook herself and started eating her hay! She started to show signs of pain an hour or so later, and a second dose sorted it. Considering she had been down for an hour while we were frantically ringing vets, we were very impressed! We also use it every 15 minutes for clipping young horses who are terrified of the clippers - helps enormously! Same for dogs not used to hydrobathing or cats/dogs with blowdrying.
