  1. that was my first " who are these people breeding a dog in which they don't even know what bred it truley is! blue/dilute genes whole other story
  2. in NSW animals for sale fb group a chick was selling silky x staffy WTF was she thinking !
  3. i am so use to working dogs, i don't think i could handle another kelpie at the moment 3 is too much work. i think i am a fan of short coated dogs. *border collie (chocolate and white) *GSD (bi-coloured) *rotti *lappie *Blue merle Aussie shep *Amstaff *boston terrier *french bulldog ETA :a catahoula L.D dogs i would not own, koolie, golden.r, lab, pug, beagle, i love the look of these dogs but i would not have one in my house hold sorry owners of those breeds. or maybe i just need to meet a nice well balanced one.
  4. for a STAND i swing my right arm from my belly buttom to the right (robot move) until it is fully extended out from my body. SIT i push my hand up like i am throwing a basket ball one handed with right hand until fully extended or until the dog sits. DOWN I swing my arm like i am about to wave or doing a mini freestyle swimming stroke and push air towards the dog's direction i use verbal aswell.
  5. for me i use "WAIT"with my left hand for the re-call, change of position, dumb bell, box, jumps and anything that requires the dog to move from the position i left it in for another exercise before i return, my hand signal is pushing the air towards the dogs nose with open palm. I use STAY with my right hand, when the dog is not to move until i return and release, my hand signal is just pushing air towards the dogs nose with an open palm across my body for stays. hope that makes sense. W@hen you are heeling what hand is your lead in? If you keep it in your left use your right hand for your signals depending what level your dog is at. Since i use food with my puppy, i use my lead in my right and swap my lead over to my left on certain commands, which i find annoying, but easier for the puppy. get into a pattern and stick with it.
  6. i own two dogs whom i manage everything for since day one. Foster mum trainer and re-homer for 8 months have 17 dogs/pups in that time mostly baby bull breeds or working dogs. obedience instructor for all breed club, steward at agility and obedience, at club above. i do obedience and sometimes agility with both dogs yet to trial as haven't had time for the past 6 years. currently work at dog grooming, daycare business, have done vet nurse didn't like the blood hahah left that pretty quick have my Diploma in Hospitality, currently doing my cert 3 in early child care hope to become a teacher. passions on the side learning photography and want to get into showing one day soon. all at age 19... not bad.
  7. buy a muzzle for the dog that way no harm can be done to your other dog. they way they can also get use to each other in the same area.
  8. the wash won't kill the fleas that jump on the dog use a product or tablet. and if your dog/s has fleas your problems lays inside and in your back yard that you will have to fix too.
  9. i have found using a check chain escalates my dogs reaction, compaired to a well fitted martingale half nylon half chain. i think he feels the check chain getting tighter where as the martingale is already tight and the correction is much quicker and give a better reaction on my dog.
  10. people travel to get dogs everyday and sometimes fly them to there new homes if too far, if you and the dogs are healthy enough to travel for a long time with stops i wouldn't think you are crazy. You must want and look commited to get this dog/pup in my perpective. the furthest i have had to drive is 4 in total
  11. thanks for everyones tips keep them coming. i might try the yakult first and raw meat for treats instead of processed.
  12. very sorry you lost your baby so young such a shame. big hugs to you and your family even though i didn't know bonnie she seems like one of a kind to your young kids and very gentle.
  13. i payed about $12-15 for my nail clippers, they look identical to the sheer magic ones but the screws holding mine together have come loose so the blades don't line up perfectly creating a uneven cut i noticed, i mean they have had a beating for a year or so, i think if you have the money buy a pair that is reputable and not from petshop with the brands that mass produce everything i think mine are like the "kramer" or something, they were good for the first few months and have done the job but they have worn very quickly.
  14. what breed do you own and how old Depending on the breed, the coat will change as they mature and get older which is natural espessially for short double coated breeds, but regular brushing that will part and remove any dead hairs or hair that are loose. i would choose a furminator for that job and a good comb or rake for long thicker coated dogs first. I think a wire hair breeds there owners will strip the coat by hand to get the daker fresher new coat also depending on the type of terrier and markings and the amount of time etc. A healthy diet can play a part and exercise i feel and people also add certain foods and oils to there dogs meal and coats, such as flax seed oil and cottage cheese added into there food. and bathing only when needed, if you have to bath regular for certain reasons find a shampoo that is easy on the coat so it won't strip the oils. and if your dog is one that needs to be groomed you can ask your groomer for tips. hope this helps but people on DOL are very handy when it comes to health nutrition and grooming so i am sure you will find more answers here. ETA; spelling mistakes
  15. LOL HE LOOKS LIKE A CATAHOULA DOG! so cute
  16. hmmm might test out some foods, they are eating kibble atm but i went and bought some fish holistic kibble to add to there oatmeal kibble. it could be to do with my training treats? they have soft processed stuff for training sausages and frankfurts as it is easier for them to swallow and doesn't break down in my hands. some days they are soften then others.
  17. ever used a grid ontop of your photo, picture you are drawing of and on your paper very very lightly so you can do one square to exactly line up where goes wher it si very helpful when you ahvea small picture and large piece of paper ..
  18. i have the same camera i as you and i am still pretty hopeless and learning i will put up some of my "ok" shots of agility. what helped me was to practice heaps on the one position so i picked either a jump/tunnel/Aframe and i noticed exactly what i needed to improve on as i knew when the dog would come out/ or over here are the only two pics that i could find from a trial using my 1000D.
  19. can some please explain how LAT exactly works?? i know sometimes when i play similar games like " are you ready" they look at me, but get very excited for what is about to happen.
  20. yes sorry another poop topic i have always fed my dogs kibble majority of there life and what i would consider quality kibble for the price i pay with the most natural ingredients as possible and the moment the past two months i ahve been road testing holistic select chicken and oatmeal i think it was they use to be on natural balance and previous to that pro plan S.S and Stomach one dog also gets bones galore of different types as the other gets raw as she won't eat a bone. i have tried different brands, added foods thinking it would harden there stools but they alway seem soft. they seem to have a sensitive stomach one more so then the other so i don't like changing foods to often even though i have. i can only remember firm stools on hill.S.Diet but that has a lot of grain/corn in it which i avoid. do you notice on certain food your dog will have soft stools/hard if so please tell me
  21. thanks i will try so i have been to the vets and she wasn't much help to my questions ! she just things he will grow out of the itching and when he goes to his new home she thinks the new environment might do him good (atm he is on pavers 80% of the time) ! i mean he has slightly slowed down on the amount of itching and nibbling he does which is great but i would have loved an answer, but it is not mange yay! he has created some small pus infections by chewing so he has a anti-inflammitory,bacterial infection cream and also has some eye cream for his eyes as they became yellow discharged. i am now testing certain foods, past two days he has had a small brisket bone from the butchers and no change and firmish stools, i will feed him his normal kibble food tomorrow then on sunday train him at obedience with chicken *fingers crossed* he doesn't itch more as he will also be on grass all morning. but he is at that age where he is mr explorer and chewing/mouthing like crazy so thank god he can have bones! soo happy i can get stuck into proper training with him as he would have grown into a naught boy.
  22. the darker the better for me my fav's are black and dark tan. i think they are the cutest as there is such contrast and there eyes stand out. no good for night time, as they are hard to locate lol again so funny i walk my two and everyone crosses the street i walk the golden everyone stops. i think the size shape of there head if it is sharp of soft. people also associate colour eg black, dark, cold, scary, white, bright, happy, warm worst things about black stands out on light clothes and on tiles. who looks scarier ??
  23. can't help with taking the dog with you, but i flew a dog from newcastle to melbourne by himself. the rescue hired from jetpets and they did virgin airlines, i kept his lead and collar attached and added a blanket inside and taped his medical info on the crate. we were aloud in the airport like normal checked him in and just chilled with him inside until his flight was ready.
  24. yes there appearance got my attention, well the puppy did on a rescue site as i have never seen anything like it ! being a rare breed in australia (as in purebred and vet exams for HD etc) i wouldn't touch one even though they look to be very smart, pretty. it says they are not re-noun for being aggressive on one website i found, maybe on the wish list if i ever have room for a large breed. but i would deffinately be concerned about the merle to merle mating !! but i havent seen a complete solid one yet. they also carry the NBT gene.
  25. poor teddy RIP you said yellow is a girl but i see something haha they are just adorable !!!! i have noticed a huge change in the boy i have here at the moment 12-14 weeks very sweet 15-17 week mr explorer and trouble maker as life has all of a sudden become interesting ahha
