#3/52 My night owl in the willow tree .. excuse if it is blury, i managed to get pool chlorine in my eye this morning and the eye sight isn't that good because of it

All normal i use the furminator on brandy (blk n tan) and i have noticed her coat has come out darker around her markings after removing the dead coat with a quality brush, its deffinately more a winter coat thing when you see it around the neck. In ceratain areas you might find the under coat is a grey/creamy colour as he matures and grows. buy a furminator if your looking to get some colour back in, it removes the undercoat and not the top so it will pick up all the creamy/grey thick hair thats dead, not much use for colour on your black dog i know! but produces a healthy coat

i get more frustrated with certain dogs then any one breed that play up constantly, more so the owners's of the dog for not training it for what ever reason, but there is one dog in particular that pushes my buttons and it is deaf! the mum thinks because it is deaf we aren't allowed to grab its collar when it wants to eat another dog which she calls "playing".. Drives me nuts she even cried one when i grabed her dogs collar stupid cow your dog is deaf so disabled grrr or mentally challenged!

i have had something similar like a small rash but it was from walking in the bush so i was uncertain what had caused it, I had to clean it with what ever on hand maybe salt water and some betadine. i have heard corn flower helps with grooming rashes or irritation.

i can feel the embarrasment of the owner already

wow fun ideas that bathroom one and dropping something might work, we have problems even getting close to a crossing when the little man goes green and it makes that buz sounds he goes nuts i don't know what triggers him so we aren't allowed to press the buzzer anymore we just have to cross when there is no traffic it's that bad i shouldn't laugh but it is embarrasing

something could have spooked your dog while you were walking and a bit of after shook followed when you got home? just a thought as you said he was checked as a pup and followed you when you got near him, a blue tounge lizard in my back yard will leave my dogs scared s...tless for hours even after it has gone

I had a rescue rotti x staffy pup she would get hiccups, i just thought it was from eating to much to fast ? as the poor girl was starving and she got into the food i gave her like she had not eaten. hiccups came soon after.

thanks guys all very informitive ideas. My girl the blk n tan pictured in my sig was taught with all conventional training no motivational until now. she picked up multiple tricks and just got it from the start and is more than happy to be moved physically into psitions even when it is just for a belly rub. Where as my boy (black thing in sig) is very sensitive to many things he doesn't respond to very firm verbal commands, if he doesn't respond to my command in obedience so we started being physical not mean, just using the lead and collar to guide him into position or my hand. Being forced into anything he refuses to do it, even with food his stubbon behaviour is horrible sometimes mostly when he is in a down he won't let me roll on him his hip for long downs. I have started targeting already i am currently teaching brandy to fetch the Tv remote and pens ! Brandy is fabbo at it offerng nose/paw/s/nudges where as macca only uses his nose so we are doing long nose targeting on my palm while in a heel its a start i guess. i just don't think shaking hands is on the list for macca, i have done multiple times lifting his paw click and treat, lift paw treat and getting over excited in a stand sit and down but not one has he offered it or lifted it one inch off the ground its like he hate having three legs haha.

Thanks aiden you always have good ideas for obedience its free shaping.. but with tricks he just doesn't show me anything to capture a behavior the only trick my dog know's is to bow even then we are still in a process as i have to man handle him first. it would be nice to one day see him shake hands haha

Im Going To Get Flamed For This.. I Do Feel Really Bad Though..
BMAK replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
i probably wouldn't have asked that question if i had know that it has happened multiple time and the owners of the dogs were irrisponsible sad situation but you can't take chances don't put yourself down. The reason why i asked if you would/wouldn't have shot the dogs if you knew they were pets is they have already killed the animal and it was dead. you may have had a chance to ask them to pay you money for the livestock and to keep them fenced and contained or they will be shot with no questions asked next time (even if its a law you obviously feel saddend). for the country dogs to even have collars on they should no better to keep them contained if they are pets living near stock and birds sorry to hear what you had to go through. -
one of my dogs responds well to clicker training a lot better than any verbal cue as i have nly recently figured out. You tube has been my friend for a lot of training ideas but would love to read about more on links and articles about this method of training not so much the basic obedience.. Interested on anything to do with teaching obedience, retrieve, long sit/downs, stand for exam, change of position and behavioural change like click to calm etc and teaching the dog to get close to my leg while heeling. * note my boy can do most of these but they need improvement and he understands the meaning of the clicker now so going to try to get him to be sharper and faster also any hints? Also any tricks i can teach that are easy with the clicker as he does not offer anything for me to grab it and mark it like my other dog he cannot even shake hands or roll over or speak haha?

Training Dog To Put Rubbish In Bin
BMAK replied to tigger000's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
he only gets rewarded for holding the rubbish for longer periods of time. p.s keep him on lead that way you can stop him from moving away. or play a game with him throw the rubbish he may be more inclinded to hold it for longer if he thinks it's a game which it should be anyway but he may pick up on it being more fun chasing something. that way you can mark the hold and reward. -
Training The Not-food-oriented Dog
BMAK replied to wings's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
try tug toys and squeeky toys my best motivator for drive for a kelpie food can only do so much for my pair, cooked chicken is there fave food treat but only works for very short periods like 2 minute sessions where as you can get a good 5-10 training session with squeeky's and tugs as rewards. remember you have to be more fun then her surroundings other wise you won't have the attention you need. -
i would just do some research on the breed and ask the breeder on what motivates her dogs that way it will help you create rain, train and give you more understading on what you think should be done before the pup arrives. like barriers, food etc

Im Going To Get Flamed For This.. I Do Feel Really Bad Though..
BMAK replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
sad for both parties, i know you were protecting your stock and one chicken and one turkey can be one day 3 of each etc, but shooting them straight away wouldn't have been my first idea not flamming. you did what your thought was right. what type of dogs where they and if they were another colour would you have shot them ? may sound wierd and too late now but do you think you would have decided different. -
Atopica Or Cortoisone For Obedience
BMAK replied to LabRat32's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
i would see a vet, and get something prescribe just for that occasion if its only needed for a few minutes or if she is able to wear a t-shirt to stop the grass touching her belly where her hair may be shorter. -
How Many Dogs Do You Own? What Types? What Matches?
BMAK replied to zizzi's topic in General Dog Discussion
i would say a rotti i know they can be lazy haha But may require more exercise?? great with kids and affectionate They wouldn't be squished under a mastiff either good luck -
i would make a list of what you want and what you don't want in a dog then look at some breeds you like, Do some research on that breed and determine wether or not if fits in with your list in a dog. I would suggest another border or kelpie too but you say you don't want another active type dog that is similar to your girl and a medium to small. so i wouldn't suggest either breed as they love a good work out to keep fit. there are over 1000 breeds to choose from and i'm sure there is a breed to fit your list but deffinately check out pet rescue as you never know. And not every purebreed/pedigree dogs are the same in temp and energy levels either so have a good look around and good luck.

Great thread! This is hard as i do like a lot of breeds. I don't think i will ever own a golden retriever ever! They are the most stubbon breed i have ever had to work with but in saying that i think there owners that i have delt with let them get away with everything! As they do a have a bigger stubbon streek then most breeds and their owners just inforce it by letting them do what they want. A smart dog is a good dog to me i don't really fancy dogs that just don't get it or take forever for it to click in when teaching them. One with build in instincts hehe as they are facinating to watch! I love a dog that is independant yet loves to give human affection but know when enough is enough, i love a dog that has plenty of character or clownish behaviour but in a second will snap out and be ready to work. i like placid dogs when they are not working. Not a fan of in your face demanding dogs, big or small No matter how many dogs i have worked with the main 4 that just please me the most are these guys; favs kelpie, rotti and aussie shep as well as those french bull dogs. many working breeds do it for me

If i could change our house/backyard my list would be very expensive hehe! but the things i would expand on or want would be> * bigger laundry with large tiled walls like a wet room so the dogs can be bathed and groomed with me having to put towels everywhere to stop dog hair trashing the place and worrying about excess water with build in benches and cuppards for all my dog gear that is never ending that is well ventalated. *main grass back yard with a sectioned off paved area fenced off incase you have to seporate dog/s from something in the yard or if you have to take down fences or get foster dogs/puppies. *doggy door build in seporate from glass sliding doors * Bigger undercover area that is can block ran and wind *inside tiles/hard wood flooring covering a bigger area right near the main sliding doors to back yard and cover in area. and a veggie garden that is located away from my landscaping pair.

read the back of the box it will tell you when they should be applied next i think frontline is every two weeks and advantage is every month (don't take my word read the back of the box just in case) not sure why you need to apply two lots of different brands at the same time though?? You could be doing more harm then good combining both ?

Depending on the type of lounge you own, you can buy already or custom made covers for the lounge that are fitted over the whole lounge from front to back and not just the part where you sit, if you are not fussy sitting on the cover after your dogs been there you can just remove it when you have visitors and wash it to save you the hassel. we used them for the 3 seater lounge (dogs fav so they could sprawl out) but in the end they got a lounge of their own and we just bought a new one that they know they are not allowed on as it doesn't have their sent and started training them not to get on the lounge. personally i don't really care if the dogs are on the lounge as long as it is not leather, if it was just myself living in the house as they would have a lounge to themselves and my couch would be clean but as i have multiple people coming and going it's not the best smell or look. Hope that helps even the slightest
