  1. use the word no maybe ? remove anything that a puppy would chew, and replace it with a dog toy that is allowed to be chewed and praise when the dog chews that instead of you fingers/toes. Socks become fun for tug toys so make sure they are in a drawer ahah
  2. I guess cuddles and pats are deffinately under that.. haha. Dogs are so domesticated now they have been brought up within a human pack, but they still have those pack insticts that take over when there pack is failing in something. I know dogs today are not what they use to be back in the day with all this baby crap they were not asked 10 times if they wanted something or what they were getting for dinner or if we asked them nicely our responce would get though quicker. I love my dogs they gets all the things they needs to survive plus the stimulation but the rest is just there natural instincts in the they react and live and respond, it is my job to think and treat them as dog and not as a human as they are not. Sure they get affection but sometimes peoples affection is smothering aka babying. Dogs are not born with separation anxiety we give them it! so we obviously do sometimes more harm then good with our dogs. For dogs to live with humans they need to have some sort of boundaries and rules by verbal or physical interaction for everything to go splended in a house hold, we are not dogs and we don't live in the wild so to do what other pack members would do would look a little insane, so we do it in a human way where the dogs still understand with "rewards". just that some people go over board.. a little too much that is all
  3. yes my dog sounds very similar. I can do obedience fine next to other dogs he doesn't go out of his way to get them just if they get in his personal space and is too close he lets them know!
  4. something isn't going down right all i can think of is something she has eaten some dogs with really bad cases of sensitive stomachs get prescribe special kibble your vet should be able to determine whats wrong if this happens often.
  5. there is another thread exactly on this topic not that long ago have a read through it.
  6. us kelpie people are getting slack i had to type the breed in via search as it wasn't in the first two pages. sorry to change the main part of this topic but i think we all have discovered where a kelpie came from etc as everyone has answered. soo, ANYONE WITH A NOONBARRA KELPIE ? or Working lines along... Philscreek, Avenpart, Ballysheehan, Scoriochre
  7. i might just buy a special harness with velco signs on it saying " IF YOU GET IN MA FACE I WILL UCK YOU UP" or maybe " IF I JUST BIT YOU, IT MEANS YOUR TOO CLOSE" ahh shouldn't be laughing we are getting prof.. help but once i'm on the road to recovery with him, it will be other people with there dog.
  8. i see a lot of golden's with hot spots as they have a thick coat the area that becomes damp under the hair, doesn't get dry where an infection can break out causing a hot spot sometimes people end up havng to shave the area so it can breath. but for a golden wouldn't suggest you shave, you can use a medicated shampoo available at pet places called "Quitich" great for bacterial infections and can be left on for a few days then washed off and re-applied or even bathed in it.
  9. I must say i sometimes secretly wish my male dog was a girl because he suits so many girly colours with contrast well with black. The other day i took him out wearing a wide band hot pink collar with clear diamontes and leather lead as it was all i had in my car people didn't know the difference and even said what a pretty girl if it makes you boy dog feel any better i sometimes put blue training collars on my girl dog too. They don't care and people don't know the difference, they call my girl a boy and my boy a girl, and I"m not one of those people who correct people if they get the wrong gender as its just a dog. if it pretty and good quality why not i say
  10. Sorry but i find Bonnie absolutely crap wouldn't count it any better then CHUM or PAL my dogs turned off it in a day and they are not ones to be fussy. that was meant to be us cutting down on cost but sometimes it isn't worth it. i Find alot of brands people/vets suggest to always make my dogs poo (science diet and nutro) heaps more every single day compared to pro plan sensitive skin and stomach. If i could afford it i would go with BARF in a second.
  11. i have a small feeling he would still try to bite them from the cage protecting his area and wouldn't cope with them being so close and have a panic attack not being able to move away rather then ignore (could be totally wrong) ahhh this darn dog who i love would be great if i could rent/try/by this type of equipment. we did have a soft create for agility but brandy ate the zipper and got out The muzzle seems to put him into netural and make him more relaxed as well as me. we normally take him to obedience on a wed night where less dickheads *cough i mean people are around instead of sundays.
  12. that lady sounds crazy! this beach sounds very familiar to one i know of caves beach haha so many idiots there, i would have told her off too i take brandy to the beach and she is obsessed at those chuck it sticks mine is yellow and she will constantly harrass anyone with a blue/purplish stick i have no clue why? as i bring my own and she demands the OP then to give her stick containing no ball the way she carries on like a bouncy kangaroo barking loudly she looks mean (totally harmless) but if you saw a poodle doing it it would look cute. :S i wonder what i would have recieved if i had macca with a proper muzzle on around kids she would have had a heart attack! ahhh some people in this world
  13. Thanks huski. might ask if we can do something similar because just verbal via meeting and the P.A systems don't do much.
  14. Tuff descision but deffinately the right one! Dito, i wouldn't wish a DA dog onto anyone. Maybe do a bit more research before picking the next dog find a breed that you like and suits your lifestyle and look for something similar in rescue, purebred or mutt i have had the most delightful cross bred dogs in my care they were just heartbreaking to think they were about to be PTS. so don't think that because this boy you gave back was hard to deal with doesn't mean your next one will be aswell. Just ask heaps of questions its the only way you get aswers. PetRescue might help on chooing one go to the website
  15. He isn't wearing a muzzel the whole time (only personal space issues) so just when people are arriving and during breaks where he might be left and people are stupid to approach dogs on a pole. ahh poodlefan This particular problem is when my boy is being friendly to those few dogs he likes which i allow the other lady approaches while my dog is being so good and she just ucks it and then my dogs social develpoment is over . I won't be leaving the club as other clubs are at a too far distance there are many great people and i enjoy the classes as he is very well behaved during class. there are just a certain 5-10 % of people who need educating during breaks and arrival i might just start to chatting to the head president. All dogs are on lead at all times unless in a class where the instructor is doing off lead heel or you are in the highest class sometimes you will get the odd (dumb) person who knows there dog will bolt but try it anyway (thats the only off lead part) The main instructors who are great at obedience know about my dog. :S Although he is friendly to only a couple of dogs, one lady in particular is fantastic and is always helping and telling people to stand back. That yellow ribbon sounds smart can you explain more ?? i would like some new rules and guidelines to talk to the chief instructor about when i return. Red poles for aggressive dogs or maybe a sign sticking out of the pole with a colour to let people know. Any suggestions on how i might be able to alert people to certain dogs rather then handouts to everysingle person?
  16. its so different i like the dog shots. and his web page
  17. yes i can relate! if they are inside they still manage to just stare at us eating and then comes the dribble so All adult dogs are outside away from everyone where ever we may eat and the pups are either out the back playing or in there pen. We don't have dog dish pigs here that is what out dishwasher is for, no jumping on any table or bench this goes for the kids and dogs and no stealing food dropped or not hehe The scraps are normally frozen/fridged for them to have the next day.
  18. Just a frustrating rant. At obedience training there are many wonderful people trying to do the right thing by there dog lovely to talk to (sometimes), but they just don't get IT and by it, I mean listening and following instructions and dog etiquette even after the hundreds of times when told either by instructor of by other people. At your obedience club what are a few of the things you notice that people repeaditively do whether not listening and following in training classes etc.. my short list for today>>> *people letting there dog wonder on there long leads ahead of the owner into every man and there dog's face with out asking first (IS it me or do peple just not get it?) not every dog is friendly *what is even more frustrating people approaching dogs who are tied up with no owner! * people who know what there dog is like but let them do it anyway eg; take off lead, dog runs away. dog is aggressive, and don't avoid it or correct the behaviour. * the one that get's me the most, personal experience, one of my dogs is dog aggressive not savage. A particular woman (a flipping instructor) will constantly let her dog wonder up to him to greet him and i keep moving away she keeps getting closer with her dog even after telling her for the 1000000th time she won't pull her dog back but will keep a loose lead and call him 99/100 time he doesn't respond until the 5 call by that time my dog would have snapped at him a few times but he has a muzzel which means my dog gets a correction for snapping when it would have been avoided. I'm trying to do the right thing by my dog and she doesn't get it WTFFF! maybe i shuld just let my dog have a go to made sure it gets in her thick skull. end rant.... anyone else want to join hahah sorry if it sounds a bit parranoid but it happens all so often at this club! the club has had many meetings and all instructors know..
  19. i wouldn't put a dog under the cover it would be soo hot and scarey. Why not remove the cover?? and securely attach the dog with two heavey duty ropes/chain and clips so the dog has to stay still or use a create if you are travelling long distances.
  20. I am getting proffesional help with one of my kelpies i have done my best to help beat his dog aggression but he has had "go;s (snapping) chasing down other dogs whether puppies other dogs even my older dog brandy over food. when he is around other dogs a muzzel is kept on we don't take any chances even if it is a snap other wise he is put into a sectioned off area away from everyone so we don't have to constantly panic and be watching his horric behaviour. He has never caused and injuries or broken the skin of any dog luckily but it deffinately hard work for own an aggressive dog and not wish it on anyone. i know how you feel and it must be soo frustrating. He could be frustrated with being over whelmed with foster dogs taking over his home i know sometimes my attention can be so focused on giving them what they need my dogs sometimes miss out on the attention. i hope somehow this might help or give you an idea what is causing it. snapping at you there has to be a reason causing him to act out of character over the past year. when does he snapp you when he is isolated when he is arund other dogs when he is excited or trying to go at the other dogs?
  21. The dog could have been acting possessive over something or guarding something? You mentioned the preparing food the dog doesn't need to be next to it to claim the dog could have seen your child as a threat if she was running towards him. This is how one of my dogs reacts around other dogs when she is claiming a toy or food area she will stand near it guarding that area and will let any other dog not to come near by snapping the air and will go back to being friendly as soon as the article or food has been removed she has never snapped at human or child so wouldn't have a clue if something similar has happened. Hope you can find what triggered this. Your dog wouldn't understand what being put in time out was (on a chain) it has no meaning. Good luck.
  22. i would think pugs are a bit more energy bunnies then shelties and they shed more than your average dog too hehe. Shelties seem a lot more placid and excellent at obedience but may require more grooming then what has been posted ? what about another poodle as you already have a poodle cross ?
  23. in the paper today "ENGLISH staffy pup for sale blah blah champion bloodlines ... hmmm yep?
  24. I got my second dog when my first dog was two years old, at this age the older dog was matured for her breed and trained and very obedient, enough to guide my puppy and to teach him how it all works i must say my younger dog is more well behaved the the older girl heheh only because i knew what not to do becasue of what i learn't of my first dog. they are now 5 and 3 abouts and work very well together. being the same breed it worked very well for me as they were very similar in temp and behaviour so they bonded very well. you still have a few years to learn the ins and outs of your first dog enjoy that time.
