  1. This summarizes what I think about the issue as well That it's not about me, it's about the puppy.
  2. Where did you pull that fact out from? http://www.vanishingtattoo.com/tattoo_facts.htm It's kind of dodgy from a legal standpoint to be using photos that aren't either public property or registered under creative commons in a video, though.. Your friend could get in trouble for that, it's important when making promotional public videos to get the permission of the people who own the footage or images in the video. That could potentially be why it was removed, or it could have otherwise been removed because it contains pictures of dog fighting/shocking imagery.
  3. Modified my post, probably a bad idea to mention PETA when I'm trying to seperate the idea of a person's ability to look after a dog and disliking a puppy buyer on a differentiating personal level.
  4. Yes I would. But then I can't think of many things that would make me "dislike" a person without knowing them. If I had clashes with someone on the forum about how a dog should be treated/trained then they obviously wouldn't fit the above statement to me personally ;) I guess it could be about off-topic things too, like how they could be very loud about their opinion that they don't want refugees here and you think "Gee, that's mean!"--just something like that. Completely irrelevant to their ability to raise and take care of a puppy, but something you find abhorrent anyways.
  5. The "homophobic breeder" thread got me thinking about this topic. Say if you were a breeder (you might be I guess I dunno) and you've been chatting to a puppy buyer who sounds great, has secure fencing, takes care of another dog and does lots of activities with it, obviously loves their pets, ticks all the boxes, even, and could provide a wonderful home for one of your puppies.. and then you find out something about that person. Either they're a person with whom you've had serveral unrelated disagreements with on these forums (maybe an argument about sports or organ donation or religion or something) and now you just mutually ignore one another because of them, or you Google them and find out they're political activists, or even they send you a photo of themselves and they turn out to be from some sort of circle that you may hate (be that gay, leather-fitted bikies, full of piercings or tattoos, etc--and you happen to be conservative and normally steer clear of those people because of whatever prejudices you may have). What is important to note here that even after you look them up or find something about them that you personally really dislike/hate, they still tick all the boxes could be a perfect home for one of your puppies. Would you still sell a puppy to them, if they could provide a fantastic home for it?
  6. Most people these days have internet or phone banking & do transfers over the internet or phone. I feel that is much safer than using my credit card with paypal I guess you could send a cheque to your supplier. But electronic transfer is the way to go IMO ;) Paypal guarantees your transactions so if there are any problems, they will reverse the transaction. And you also don't need to give out your credit card number etc, just your email address, so nobody will know where the money is going (whether it's a bank account or a credit card). Also, PayPal ensures that people can't access your card and take out more money than you agreed to. It's much safer than using a credit card, actually I might have to find somewhere local to purchase it from.. I don't like giving out my bank details and I don't even know how to write a cheque. My suggestion would be to contact Julana at Ipswich....her husband works in Brisbane & maybe you could meet up with him & do a cash transaction [email protected] That'd be cool. I've emailed the pet store "Naturalicious" i think it's called and I've asked them where their nearest stockist of BH is, so depending on what their answer is, I may get it that way. I was going to try putting Hugo onto Uncle Alber's first but he thinks the pieces are too big and he spits them out while he's chewing.

  8. Okay! So Hugo is nearly a year old now and nearly out of his puppy food (there is about a week left of it), so I need to go about ordering some Black Hawk for him. How do I go about doing that, and can I use paypal? I hope I don't have to do a bank transfer, I hardly ever get time to go to the bank
  9. Artemis is a premium food though as I hear on these forums, Black Hawk is a good cheaper equivalent. I find the guides are usually way off, so chances are if you did understand them, they'd be useless to you anyways. It depends on the breed of the dog, how much exercise they do.. just too many factors to rely on guides. Just feed him a set amount a day. If he gets too porky, cut back. If he's looking a bit skinny, add more. Hugo is a wonderful gauge for food--he stops eating when he's had enough. So he always looks the perfect weight :D
  10. Jeez, you didn't need to be nasty because someone expressed concern (out of all things) for your dog What PF said.
  11. I love Indi, it's such a rebel name :D
  12. A dog that was off leash in a public area rushed your dog and a fight broke out because of that, I don't really think there's any other possible way to interpret it other than it being the other person's fault.
  13. That's just too funny See i don't think he is scared of loud noises because he doesn't mind the loud dirt bikes reving.. Should i just ignore it and not say any thing when a turbo diesel goes past and hopefully one day he'll realize that they are not going to run him over This is probably wrong or there are possibly lots who would say it is wrong but I'd try to distract him if you can.. Like try and play something with him? Tug? Idk. I'd do the same think to the jet ski that I did with the vacuum cleaner if it were more plausible It works whenever he's nervous about a dog at a park. We rush over to the dog and pat and cuddle it and we're like "OMG HUGO CHECK OUT HOW MUCH FUN WE'RE HAVING WITH THIS DOG :D"
  14. Well Hugo was afraid of vaccuum cleaners during his fear period, but that seems to have gone away now. We just made a big fuss about the vaccuum cleaner (we'd pat it, hug it, put treats on it and pretend to eat them until he'd come over--yes we're al psycho in this household) and now he just sleeps through vaccuuming, he doesn't care anymore. I haven't really come across anything else he's scared of, he's pretty chilled about loud noises in general actually, they don't bother him.
  15. Welcome to DOL! Does the breed actually come in the color chocolate? (I seem to be only finding "red" or brown and tan Doxies when I look for "chocolate" on Google images) There looks like there's a dapple breeder who has pups at the moment in NSW Although if you find the perfect pup insterstate, don't be afraid to enquire!
  16. Depends on many things. What breed? Why can't you get it from New Zealand? From memory, I talked to a Vall breeder in NZ and she said the cost to import a puppy from NZ cost more than the actual dog.
  17. Can't say it's going to give us much when smartasses put 15+ litters against breeders who don't health test... Well at least we know that since there are 7 votes in each of the 15+ category, they are most likely all trolling so we can ignore that option altogether :p I think large-scale breeding is rarely justified. We already have so many puppies and dogs in the pounds that lose their chance of getting adopted every time someone decides to bring a litter into the world, breeders can't be doing that much good to the breed that they feel the need (for speed!) to breed every few months. That's just my opinion; I also think it's sad when breeders have 10+ (or some other high number) of dogs on their property--I mean even if they are getting fed well and looked after etc, how on earth can you provide so many dogs with..like.. love. I sound like a tree-hugging hippie, but whatever! I think dogs have a right to be in a place where they get an adequate amount of attention and affection bestowed on them, and it seems almost impossible to do that when you have a dozen or so dogs on the property. I could never do that, I'd need to hire staff to cuddle and pat so many dogs a day. :p I don't think that's a very fair comment. Breeders do not stop someone getting a pound puppy just because they have pedigree litters. People go to breeders because they want a particular breed and there is no garuntee that the pound will have that breed nor can they be sure the dog wont have baggage or have any genetic health problems. Pounds are full because jack asses don't think before they act. Anyway I don't think the original question can be summed up easily, there are so many variables. 15+ does seem somewhat excessive and I simply fail to believe that there are that many puppy buyers out there (I could offcause be wrong). I would say 6 at max would be my limit. Ah, fair enough, I get your point. Though I do reckon it's possible that if there were less litters around in general, people may be more inclined to get pound dogs. Like for example, if there weren't any SV litters around the time when I was looking for a puppy, I would have most likely gotten a pound dog (I had waited 19 years, I wasn't willing to wait much more! D: ).

  19. Be warned: the construction may not hold up if you leave the top flap open and a certain (heavy!) puppy thinks he'd like to climb his way out For those who already have one of these specific crates, do they just have the one end door aside from the top flap? I can't quite tell from the site if either of those sides open at all. There's only a "window" on the top and a door at the front. The sides don't open up, though I guess theorhetically if you were desperate, you could lay the crate on its side and use the top flap as a door lol!
  20. Just recieved mine in the mail and it's very sturdy and enormous! Material is very thick and construction was strong enough to survive when I tripped over Hugo and landed on top of it whilst moving it into my room
  21. There's a thread in the photography section where you can post your photos up and whoever gets to them gets to them :p
  22. What does "whale the dog" even mean? I don't think it matters what other people WANT to do so long as they don't actually DO it.. If someone hit my Hugo, I would destroy them. But the issue hasn't come up since people don't usually discipline your dogs for you.
  23. We don't say it right at his face; since he was pretty tiny at 2 months old, our faces would be at least a meter apart while doing that lol.
  24. Just a firm no and stop play or attention. My pup is 6 months and she now only mouths when she excited, for example when I get home from work, and she grabs my clothes. I make her sit before I pat her. It is a really good habit to get into as who wants a dogs jumping around them, but also is distracts her from the mouthing. Firm no and stopping play does NOT work when he's excited - we've tried - dog is now 4-5 years old. He will happily sit for a pat, but not when excited. We adopted him when he was 1-2 years old. Mouthy is not painful, but it is something we would like to change. Hugo used to be pretty bad with this and he'd be constantly mouthing the chickens as well. Whenever getting excited during play and started nipping us or grabbing onto chicken tails, we just grabbed him by the scruff of the neck, rolled him onto his back and growled "no" loudly at him and then walked away. He never ever mouthed ME again and only gently mouthed the chickens when we weren't looking
