Snorting In Shihtzu Pup
loveisashihtzu replied to loveisashihtzu's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just an update, hes perfectly fine now and no longer does it, the vet couldnt find anything wrong with him either -
I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good camera for me to buy, i can only take very basic photos however i do want to get much better. I dont have a camera at present, my mother in law has taken all the photos of my pup but her camera isnt that crash hot either. So, whats a good camera for a beginner thats not more than $400?

My Pups Breeder Makes Me Feel Bad
loveisashihtzu replied to loveisashihtzu's topic in General Dog Discussion
As far as diet goes, yes i am slowly changing over the kibble, im adding a bit of RC to the advance each day but theres still much more advance in the bowl, is that about right? and for the person who asked if my breeder shows, yes she does, she was actually at a show the day i bought him, why is that? -
I'm having a bit of a dilema at the moment, i bought a pedigree shihtzu puppy last sunday night and according to the breeder, everything i am doing with my puppy is either cruel or wrong.. The day after i bought my pup the breeder rings me up to see how he's going, i mentioned that im crate training him and she was shocked by that and said its mighty cruel, i didn't know what to say so i asked what she recommended, her response was put him in the laundry with his bed and food/water.. He is only crated at night time and whenever im not home which is a max of 2 hours during the day. I dont see anything cruel about it or any different to locking him in a laundry :D I have also started weaning him off advance puppy dry food and onto a brand i personally think is better, Royal Cannin Shihtzu Junior, which is also a big no no and he needs to stay on advance! I feed him the occasional chicken wing - supervised of course and apparently raw meat will give him a tummy upset and i should just stick with the tucker time roll, advance and thats it.. To be quite honest im getting so frustrated and feel like im being a bad owner.. I dont know what to say to her each time she shoots me down so i just reply back with "ok" Am i doing a crap job with my puppy or is she expecting too much? :p

This is one of my worst fears, i have a pool with a pool fence but im so scared my pup will get through the bars, i never leave him unsupervised outside and will be putting chicken wire all around the fencing so theres no chance he can get in even as an adult. Seeing your dog pass after drowning would be the most terrible thing, my heart goes out to anyone who's had it happen :D

A staffy or a mastiff, i've only ever owned shihtzu's

Just wondering why they are frowned upon? they seem to be everywhere.

Persephone, thanks for the links, i found them very helpful. I have some good news last night my little boy slept in his crate with very minimal fuss, he cries a little when i pop him in but only lasts maybe 10 min now instead of 2 hours. I'm very pleased with him he has also been doing his business when we take him outside aswell. Ignoring him has definitely helped, i could see him turning into a spoilt brat if i kept on fussing him whenever he cried. It feels so much better to have a much calmer pup, boy it was frustrating before, especially with the ear piercing yelps! I'll keep at him - thank you!

Thank you all so much, you're so helpful i was also wondering what type of toys to buy him? i think he's teething as he's into everything at the moment but ive had a look at the teething bones for small dogs/puppies in pet supply stores and they all look small enough for him to choke on if he tried hard enough! at the moment he only has a small kong, a soft squeaky bone and a fluffy rabbit, im too scared to give him anything smaller at the moment. Im definantly keeping up with the crate training and ill try my best to ignore him This is my little boy Lj. Doesn't he look oh so innocent :D

He is 9 weeks old and to be honest his toilet training isn't going so great, whenever i take him outside to do his business i stand out there with him but he just jumps at my legs and cries, he won't go out there even now, he's sitting at my feet crying and jumping at my legs!

I'm the new owner of a 9 week old male shihtzu and finding a few things he does quite..interesting i guess, i haven't had a pup in 10 years so please go easy on me! I brought him home on sunday night and he seems to get absolutely distraught if he can't be with you 24/7, he cries even when he's right near me wanting to be picked up and screams the house down when i crate him at night time. I'm quite a soft person and can't help but pick him up when he cries too much but im at the point now where i know i can't keep doing this. I'd love for someone more experienced than myself to help me please, i dont want to ruin this puppy I spoke to his breeder and her advice was put him in the laundry with a bed and food, dont crate him as it's cruel and deal with things that way. Not really sure how that's going to be of any help to be quite honest. Can anyone help me?

Snorting In Shihtzu Pup
loveisashihtzu replied to loveisashihtzu's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks for the replies, I tried getting him an appointment today but they were full so tomorrow morning it is. Fingers crossed its nothing. -
I recently, 2 days ago infact purchased a 9 week old pedigree shihtzu puppy, he's the most lovely little thing but he snorts when he breaths sometimes and when he's excited, he also makes little sneezing noises, does it sound like something i should be concerned about? i mentioned it to his breeder and she said its probably just because of his flat face, im thinking of taking him for a vet check tomorrow, anyone have any advice?
