  1. It goes out coast to coast Huskies4life - station depends on the state, it is 97.3FM in Qld.
  2. I heard it too,it was a load of rubbish but pretty sure it was Alister Webster the better Homes and Gardens Vet and not Chris Brown - at one stage he said "avoid the chocolate labs as they are more SCHIZO, go for a golden" Not very professional choice of words IMO,besides being crap. He then proceeded to come out with the oodle and any kind of cavalier cross twaddle and I changed the station because I couldn't listen any further.
  3. Coogie was part of my childhood nickname, not saying the other parts on a public forum. My family sometimes still use it to wind me up, anyone in hearing turns round expecting to see a very small child and look horrified when they realise my embarassing family members are calling a red faced 40 odd year old such a baby name,I generally pretend I am not with them.
  4. I said "There is a rescue dog coming for a sleepover this weekend, we won't keep him ,it is just to help out the rescue" Alfie was a Daddy's boy from day 1 and did the rest. Turned his big brown eyes on OH and followed him round all weekend, there was no question he would be coming back to stay. We had the added bonus of a great rescue who matches not only to suit current dog but also to hubbies
  5. Issy, Shar Pei crossed with energiser bunny, age 2 - doing her shoe fetching trick Alfie, Shar Pei crossed with couch potato ,age 3 - just being Alfie Winter couch surfing
  6. That photo of the dog with the bloody id tags below is disgusting, total sensationalism. I had the misfortune to live on the border of Greenwich for 4 years, most of the dogs that are a problem in that area are not staffordshire bull terriers at all. They are back yard bred bull type mixes, bred by the English equivalent of bogans, then other young thugs buy them/trade them for drugs. They bait the dogs to make them aggressive - because they like the "respect" they get when they have a snarling ,lunging, totally over the top dog, usually decked out in a studded leather harness. They live in Council flats, no yard /garden so the only exercise the dogs get is when they are hanging about the street corners with their idiotic owners; being teased by the other local "yoofs". It is heartbreaking to watch and I am surprised the number of bites is that low. I know this sounds like a snobbish generalisation but it really is the situation there, once again an owner problem - not a dog problem. There is a part 2 on their site but I won't post the link here as there is a very graphic photo of a bite. I don't usually comment in these threads but this made my blood boil. Rant over.
  7. Both of ours are insured with Petplan and I would never be without insurance,we pay monthly and have had no trouble claiming. The price is a little over $10.00 a week for each dog for the Platinum Dog plan. This is a rough list of vet bills over the last 12 months or so - Issy - diagnosed with luxating patellas and hip dysplasia, her first op was over $2000.00, we only paid $100 excess and they paid for everything else including a post op course of cartrophen injections. 2 more possible surgeries and further aftercare to come. Issy - ingested a tennis ball whilst we were away in Mackay - Sunday night emergency treatment and overnight vet stay $500 Issy skin issues approx $600 Alfie skin issues approx $400 Alfie ear infections - x3 - diagnostic test to see why recurring $450 Alfie - torn claw from wrestling with Issy - after hours again - sedation, removal of claw, pain killing and anti inflammatories $375 Alfie dog bite on Sunday of long weekend - trip to Pet ER for staples in his face, antibiotics, pain killers, dressings etc $390.00 Both dogs also had Tonsilitis! I admit it has been a horror year and not the usual run of things, but without the insurance it would have been much harder. We are lucky in that we would be able to pay on credit cards if necessary. Also they are both pretty healthy dogs although you could be forgiven for thinking otherwise reading that list, the incidents were spreadout but things can just happen and it does really add up!
  8. RIP Jock, so sorry for your loss Jase. Each time we have lost a dog I have said "never again, I can't go through the loss" and at the time I mean it. However dogs are such a part of my and my OH's life that after a while I find the house very empty without them, and we start to look for that special companion again. I never feel I am replacing the one/s we have lost but sometimes, just once in a while; I catch an echo of one of them in a behaviour or expression and with the benefit of time I can smile and recall all the good stuff. I am still sad at the losses but start to think more about all they gave us and in a weird way it makes me feel better. I am probably not explaining very well sorry, I hope a time comes for you when you are ready. P.S. I agree rescues are the best!
  9. Sending good thoughts, really hoping you have better news soon. for Mindy
  10. Great news,here's to a happy ending!
  11. Flocked, posted on FB. Hoping you get some news very soon.
  12. I really hope you find them soon.
  13. Kroll Gardens at Redcliffe has a good sized small dog area, seating, shade, with water and toilet block in main park. Just off Duffield Road.
  14. Our local dog park is massive so if you need to get away from rowdy dogs you can, there is also a completely separate small dog area for dogs under a specified height and weight. There are sometimes boisterous large dogs in the main area but not a lot of bad behaviour. I keep a close eye on my dogs and always check who is there when we arrive and who is coming in the gates, so on the off chance one of the few dogs I am not comfortable with my two running with arrive; I can leash up and move away or leave. I find my two do need the socialisation and we don't have a lot of friends nearby with dogs so for us it is important. There has only really been one day when I have left without taking the dogs off their leads - there were a lot of newbies with very large dogs and I just didn't feel comfortable - there was nothing specific just felt wrong. Our two are medium sized so maybe it is not as worrying if your dog is a bit bigger? Are you able to check out any other local parks?
  15. no point in reporting when pit bulls are actually allowed in the Moreton Bay area, but way to over exaggerate No point reporting it to Moreton Region Council at all if you were walking at Redlands Bay - it is not even in Moreton's catchment area. We already have very strict dog legislation in Moreton Shire - and it is quite strictly policed. Hopefully they will not review their policy but continue to look at individual ownner/dog behaviour rather than adopting blanket BSL type legislation that has been proven not to work elsewhere. There are a lot of "Amstaff" / bully type breeds in certain areas of the council boundaries, some in suitable homes some not, (but I think this goes for every breed type) and in all honesty I have been rushed by far more uncontrolled and uncontained small breeds when leash walking my two. I don't have a bull breed but can understand why owners are so worried - I have been asked if my girl is a pitty (because of her reddy brown nose). She is a Shar Pei for crying out loud, friends of ours with bully breeds are very worried as one family in particular have an adoptee from a local shelter who is registered as a crossbreed but pretty much ticks all the boxes as far as visual id for a pitbull goes.I can only hope sense prevails here (after the last debacle in Qld with this type of legislation which resulted in innocent family pets being pts) and there is not a knee jerk reaction encouraged by the local paper promoting hysteria or by a sudden rush of "concerned" members of the public calling the council with spurious or malicious complaints.
  16. If he was ok on the Eagle Pack sardine you could try giving him sardines or other oily fish ? We feed raw tuna steaks as well as sardines. Ours also get eggs sometimes and a spoonful of natural yoghurt,I would be really careful though if he has multiple allergies and only add one new thing at a time just in case. I'm sure others will have suggestions, hope he picks up soon.
  17. Ooh, I am going to put it on if I can wrestle the remote off OH - is it regarding the pitbull debate?
  18. Really sorry it wasn't better news, hopefully the diet will help, thinking of you both.
  19. Really sorry to hear about Amber, sending good thoughts.
