Our girl had this as part of an allergic reaction - but if he has already had one bad allergic reaction with significant swelling this week, I would be going straight to the vet anyway; or if you can't get an appointment I would go to an emergency vet if there is one near you.

Is There Any Things Said About Your Breed...
coogie replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
No, I don't have to wipe out their wrinkles every single day. No, they haven't had a facelift. No, they are not sad. No they are not vicious. There is nothing wrong with their tongues they are meant to be like that; and on one memorable occasion - no she is not a red nose pitbull - her nose is liver coloured because she is a lilac Shar Pei! -
I have their leather ones, they have been fantastic and stand up to a lot. I also have the leather slip leads and they have to be one of the best things I have bought for the dogs,we use then every day rain, hail or shine. They have frequently got wet and muddy/sandy, a quick wipe over with some leather care cream when they are dry and they have stayed really soft and supple and look like new.

Hi Bianca, we used these earlier this year when our girl had a femoral head ostectomy and was slipping on our floors, they did give her more traction on the floors, they helped quite a bit and the service from Waggle was extremely good. A word of caution though - it did take her a while to get used to them and we found we had to get her to her wear them in her crate for a few minutes at a time over a few days before she could walk without throwing her feet around because of the socks. She only tried to pull them off once the first time they went on. I would use them again if mats are not an option. She also had a pair of boots but they were not as successful as they seemed to irritate her more than the socks and she never really got the hang of walking in them.

So sorry to see this terrible update, poor Sarge. Hugs to you and your daughter. I hope something is done about the Husky now, surely the ACO and Council cannot continue to ignore it. RIP Sarge.

I would try Jane Harper as well, she has worked with a friend's rescue dog with good results. -
What Silly Things Is Your Dog/dogs Scared Of?
coogie replied to mantis's topic in General Dog Discussion
Issy is terrified of those rocking animals in children's playgrounds she gives them a very wide berth, both her and Alfie do not like sneezes either. Neither are afraid storms or fireworks, but Issy gets very cross at the fireworks and rushes to the deck to see them off. -
They are so beautiful Brindle - Elsa was delightful yesterday as usual! It's so nice to see her thriving and happy. Saw a lovely pack today, 2 staffordshires,,a long haired dachshund,a labrador and a cattle cross, all seniors; taking a stroll on the beach. Apparently the dachshund is the boss!

Loving all the combinations, and the pictures. OH has suggested some of the comments were probably regarding their behaviour rather than how they looked as Askari (GSD) is super obedient whereas the Pei can be a little more "independent" at times. I hadn't thought of that!!

Ours have the choice as they can access the house via their dog door. I do sometimes worry about security, but think it would be a very brave burglar who tried to crawl in whilst they are home. They have not chewed anything for a very long time ** touches wood**. Although they did eat a corner off the front window blind when we accidently left it down one day. I don't lock them in because it is an old timber house and I worry they would be trapped if there was a fire. Probably complete paranoia but it doesn't feel safe to me if they can't get out into the yard.I have been told they may not run outside anyway but since it makes me feel better I opt to risk the burglars over the dogs being locked in. If I couldn't let them have free access I would be tempted to build them an outdoor room/shed with a run attached. Hubby is rolling his eyes at this.

I've never come across this because we only have Shar Pei ,but this weekend we are taking care of my sister's GSD as she has gone away for the weekend. We have never had him over the weekend before - she has just moved back to Brisbane and has gone up to Mackay to visit her partner. We have been taking him out and about with us and also on walks, all three dogs come with us ,they have known each other for ages and we have no problems with them. At least four or five people have said "What a strange combination of dogs you have there". They are not being rude, just passing comment - but when I asked one of them why do you say that, what is strange about the combination? They looked puzzled and couldn't answer me. It got me wondering about combinations in packs,we regularly see a lady with a Great Dane and an Iggy which seems strange to me but only from the point of view if they were mine I would be worried the Great Dane would accidently hurt the Italian Greyhound simply because of the size difference. I would never comment because obviously they are both fine and she must just manage them carefully (and it is none of my business)! If you have a "mixed pack" do you get comments, are there dogs you would never mix? Probably a pointless post but it has got me thinking as I often see questions on the forum saying I have an X breed and want to get a Y breed do you think this would work? Just curious really as to whether other people get comments and what they say if anything in return?

So sorry for your loss. RIP Tara.

Beautiful boy!

In our house it is usually Issy, Alfie like Stan would join in if there were spoils but is too laid back to instigate the naughties usually. Here is her worst effort (blind accidently left down so she could not see the goings on of the street).

Luxating Patella Issue (updated 7 Weeks Post Surgery)
coogie replied to ness's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Ness, only just saw this - really hope she is feeling better. Issy had about 7 weeks of confinement after her patella surgery, but we had to give up on the crate as she destroyed it in the third week and was hurting herself. Issy is having cartophen shots once a month - they do seem to help her. Good luck - will be thinking of you! -

Shar Pei - Tracking Down Previous Breeder
coogie replied to selkii's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am pretty sure as tdierkx says they have retired but they were a very well known kennel and some of the other breeders who advertise here had (and may still have I guess depending on when they stopped breeding) their dogs in their breeding programmes so may have some information. There are also a number of Dahlet dogs listed in the Shar Pei Breed Archive here - you might be able to check on his littermates using his date of birth and get some information that way. Pop into the Shar Pei thread anyway and treat us to some pictures. :) Sharpei Archive -
There is a good list of off leash beaches and parks on the Sunshine Coast here: Sunny Coast beaches Redland Bay here - there is a good map with a bones grid to tell you what facilities each area has - just be careful though as some of the beaches have time share - dogs off leash at certain times only. We have had both bad and good tenants, the bond has never covered the cost of the bad tenants. They simply stop paying rent before they move out and leave all the damage to boot. Landlords insurance will cover malicious damage but won't cover picking up mountains of poo from the yard, removing further mountains of poo from sheds, replacing every plant you had, replacing your carpets if you as a landlord have stipulated pets are allowed inside, secure your property whilst you have to leave all the windows open to try and get rid of the stench of faeces and urine dried into your floorboards/tiles/walls/doors. It won't repair your relationship with the neighbours who despite complaining bitterly to the agent got no action until they rang the Council to report the place as a health hazard. Domestic cleaners will not want to touch your property with a barge pole you will be obliged to either spend back and heart breaking days/weeks doing it yourself or hire professional cleaners who deal with biohazards - they will be very, very, expensive. More than the amount of the bond - just for the cleaners before you can start repairs. Of course you can take the property manager and tenants to court (if you can afford it in either dollars or hours). You can listen to endless people telling you what a privilege it is to own an investment home in the first place, despite the fact they have no idea how long and hard you worked to get it. Once you are a landlord apparently you are living high on the hog and should put up and shut up, you should have little or no say in who rents your property or what they do whilst they are there. You should definitely ignore the fact your landlord's insurance jumps 35% some years due to an increasing number of bad tenants leaving properties in a disgusting state. Or you can do what I now do and still allow animals (inside and out) but check every prospective tenant very, very carefully, often ignoring the agent's choice. You can ask to meet them, their dogs and other pets and you ask for dated photos of each and every inspection, you can insist that the smallest repair request is actioned immediately so your tenants are happy in a well maintained property. We tend not to go for rent increases if we have a good tenant (which we currently do, pets and all). The neighbours now have my mobile so if the agent doesn't respond they can call me directly. It is rarely black and white and I'm sure there are bad landlords in their thousands as well, and that for every bad tenant story there is probably an equally shameful bad landlord story, but it really annoys me when people assume that the insurance/courts will just fix everything - in my experience it just doesn't happen that way. In my humble opinion a pet bond will not make a scrap of difference.

LOL, he is named after a famous designer - what do you expect? Oscar De La Wrinkles probably thinks he is expected to help!
