Issy, Lilac girl will be 7 this year. Came from Rescue, so no background but has had knee surgery, hip surgery and cancer. She is still the boss and although she has slowed down weekly hydrotherapy keeps her in Zoomies shape. Alf Cream Boy will be 8 this year. Came from a different Rescue, has had one toe amputated. He has gone from a shut down mess to a complete snuggle bunny. Loves his Dad and Grandma above all else, loves Issy even though she is mean to him sometimes. The photo was not taken by me it is from the lovely folks at Zoo Studio.

I would also recommend Jane Harper she is great.

I am so sorry, I just saw this because I hardly ever come here ( too gutless) and I haven't been at the park much. They are never with us for long enough, you could tell how much he meant to you whenever you spoke about him. Sending peace and strength.

Depending on where you land and what you need I would second Susan Dawson at Anvet Kedron. We also use Burpengary Vet Hospital and would suggest Liz Morris or Bianca Cloet, although to be honest they are all good and have quite extended hours. Burpengary Vet Specialist care we use Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Centre - they also have a 24 hour ER BVSC Hydrotherapy we go to Canine Fitness Centre Canine Fitness Centre

Campaign To Allow Dogs In More Public Places
coogie replied to MonElite's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wonder if part of the issue is that it all seems pretty arbitrary in Australia, and there are big differences in what you can and can't do depending on were you are, we are very lucky in the area I live. Within a ten minute radius I can go to a dog friendly beach (pick of on or off leash), go to some very dog friendly cafes and restaurants,go to a market etc. Within a 30 minute radius I can take them for a walk in the state forest, go to any number of creeks and swimming holes, access public agility equipment; and they are allowed in the local pet related shops - Pet Stock, Petbarn and the independent Pet Cafe. I personally would not want to take them into other shops - every second person wants to pat them/talk about them/offer me sage advice about how I should be looking after them, they are terrible time wasters LOL. In the event we want a night out with them (not that I do very often ) we can take them to the drive- in, or to the marina for fish and chips. There are a number of doggy friendly events in the cooler months - Pet Expo,Bark in the Park, Green Fairs etc. Yet friends in other areas and states seem to have pretty much no where they can go with their dogs. There doesn't seem to be any consistency. We always obey the rules where we are, keep the dogs close to us, pick up mess, take their bowls and our own water dish and there are certain times we avoid areas we would be "allowed" because of 1080 baiting and various other things, but we seem to have a reasonable variety of options for social outings, I would hate to be in an area where I felt I couldn't take them anywhere. -

I have to say I have never had any issues with Petplan, they have always been friendly, professional and have paid all claims promptly. However anyone who has a Petplan Policy that spanned their policy wording change (in 2014) and who has a dog that has become a "senior" or "geriatric" dog in that time, should have a look at their policy. I had questioned how they were applying the aged part as it had changed from 7+ to 6 and we had been paying a higher excess. I put it to them that it was not made clear when they changed our policy and nor was it clear on the internet. They said they would have a look into it if I could show the original policy wording, I couldn't find the policy docs from 2009 and so just let it go and thought that was that. Today I got a home and in the mail is a refund cheque for all the increased excesses plus interest, together with a letter saying following a review, they agree the wording isn't clear and so they are refunding us over 1800 dollars in excess payments from 2014 to now. It doesn't look like it was a review just into our policy but a broader look so it could be worth a phone call if they have covered you pet for a few years and you have made claims.

Insurance has been a godsend for us, Issy has had luxating patella surgery, a femoral head ostectomy and more recently cancer treatment including radiation, she has to have scans every few months for the next two years, so far we have had around $27,000.00 dollars back for her treatment. Each claim has taken less than 6 weeks and we have only been questioned once when she was bitten by an unknown dog and the company wanted further details, but paid promptly on receiving them. We have paid about $8400.00 in premiums so far for her so it has been a very good return. Her premiums have not jumped significantly, although her cover has now dropped to 80% as an older dog. We have probably paid the same amount out for Alf but got back less than $5000 but funnily enough I prefer this because it means he has been a healthy boy! After our experience I will always insure.

Only just catching up so have binged on puppy photos, they are stunning. Congrats to all.

He will be fine inside until you build the run, however if he is not used to being inside I would give some thought to where he will be in the house and I would start giving him some enforced inside time now. That way when you move he will have some clue as to what is expected of him and you will know if he is likely to chew, toilet etc. Most Pei will not toilet inside and are super clean - but most Pei are predominantly inside dogs to start with. Most are not destructive at all either but can do an incredible amount of damage in a short time if they take it into their heads to go outside and you are not there to do their bidding. My two spend most of their days inside in the cool of the house but do have access to the deck at the back and the back yard. They would be horrified to be locked out in fact - can you secure an area off the back door for him so he has the option?

Been thinking of you all today - just popping in to wish you strength and peace. We have lit a candle for Mac, I hope he loved his ice cream and snuggle, and that all went as planned.

I have just seen your update Westiemum. I am so sorry, you are very brave and he is so blessed to be with you. I will light a candle on Friday and hope you have a great week with him.

Andy Is Unwell And No-One Seems To Know Why...

Glad he is a bit better :) -
Issy has a bunk but she very rarely lets Alf on it.

We are with Petplan and whilst the premiums are expensive they have paid out an awful lot on our girl, I was trying to add it up the other day, I should pull her file and check properly. I know it is close to $30,000.00 and rising. She has dropped to 80% cover now as she is a bit older but it is still a big help. There is no way we would have put aside the amount needed for her treatment by just putting the premiums in an account.

So very sorry to see this Kirty, your gorgeous boy was so lucky to find you. Wishing you strength and peace just now.

With my two it depends on the bit of kit, if they are going for a swim/bush walk they usually have comfort flex harnesses and martingales on, Alf is blue and Issy hot pink, they have matching fleece and webbing leads for these but their longlines are black gripper ones. They also both have red comfort flex collars because I had red leads, If they are wearing named collars Alf is purple and Issy black - these were usually for events so they don't use them much anymore. They have K9 Pro leather martingales and leads so they are all black. They have some custom made collars OH bought when he was in the USA, they are a chestnut leather. They have a variety of coloured tag collars which came from DoL - very well made and light, then they have a few "special" ones for Halloween, Christmas etc. I usually make sure they are dressed in sets, just because it is easier to keep things organised that way - but if OH takes them out they are just as like to be in a rainbow of colours and even each others kit. LOL.

Gorgeous photos of Mac. Just checking in to see how he is doing.

Check out Ruthless Leather, they have amazing collars and leads, several people here have them and they are on my wish list. K9Pro ones are gorgeous too. Ruthless Leather

Ams had a few bear coats through the rescue, Dede who now lives near me, and also the little black boy who went to live in WA. You won't find it easy to get a quality, healthy bear, coat pup in Australia - they are outside the breed standard so most ethical breeders actively avoid lines that throw too many bear coats. The only breeder I know for bear coats is SandyShreu in NSW ,they are listed in the breeders section on DoL. Not sure if they are still breeding bear coats or not. I believe they imported their bears from the USA where both bear coats and flowered dogs are enjoying a bit of a renaissance. I would avoid the scumtree ones like the plague, lots of crosses and byb dogs with the usual Pei health issues, exacerbated by lack of knowledge to treat early and indiscriminate pairings. I predict an explosion of bear coats (or more likely Chow mixes passing as bear coats) following the Facebook phenomenon of Tonkey or whatever he is called. If I was your friend I would contact SandyShreu and ask if they can help.
