Sorry for your loss Tralee. RIP Sooki.

It's very hard Tralee, take care of yourself. Sorry you are missing Chalice so much. I thought of her when I saw the pink tinged, ruffly clouds in Autumn and I remembered the story of the Legend and your poem.

Blue Genes I know exactly what you are talking about, I have 2 Pei and go through gallons of Epiotic which we have found the most effective. Summer is especially bad, the cheapest I have found it is $25.00 for 500mls though. I might try the malaseb as well. Never had ear issues with other breeds we have had so I was surprised at the frequency of treatment. Both of mine are rescues, so ears had been left untreated before going to rescue, their ear issues were fully disclosed before they came home with us so we did know what we were in for. We have found diet helps somewhat - but as you say it is an ongoing battle. Also find that soaking their paws at the same time we treat their ears helps.

Our Division 5 Councillor, James Houghton was the only objector and even that seemed only to be based on the fact he thought identification would be too hard and that the Council would leave themselves open to litigation. I was speaking to a friend earlier who is the owner of a bull breed rescue boy. The "type" standards that other BSL councils use could have been written whilst looking at a photo of her boy even though his registration is as a mastiff cross. She is very worried. Hopefully the "grandfather law" they are talking about will cover him, plus they are very responsible so he is never likely to be roaming. I think the fact that Oswald flattened so many fences (even our rock solid 6 foot colour bond had a wobbly panel) around here this past weekend has even responsible owners nervous about an accidental escape and what could now be potentially deadly consequences. I have never seen either a Tosa or a Dogo wandering along a bike path in Moreton Shire. I think Tosa have been banned sine the nineties not sure about the Dogo. I would be surprised if that particular person can see much of anything on a bike path, his head is so firmly up his backside.

MBRC look to be heading like lemmings down the BSL route. Some of the comments are horrifying - interestingly it states there are only 13 registered pit bull terriers in the council area. A quick drive round D'Bay by the ACO's would soon find a few hundred more. Yet more unenforceable laws I fear, they can't police the legislation they have. http://www.couriermail.com.au/questnews/moreton/ban-on-dangerous-dogs-to-take-effect-in-moreton-bay-region/comments-fn8m0yu3-1226566167501?pg=2

So sorry TT, RIP Tess.

I don't see it as an "optional" extra, I trust our current vet, that's why I use them, they are excellent and I never get the feeling they are padding the bill in any way. If I felt they were and I had the option I would change vets (again). I expect they will do what is best for the dogs and if they suggest pre op bloods I get them done, same for fluids etc. I imagine it is hard if you don't have a choice of vets but we vote with our feet and paws. I would rather any issues are picked up before the operation and my two seem to do better post operatively if they have had additional fluids etc.

Great videos, I'm another one who really didn't have a clue about their size. He looks so happy and cheeky.

That's priceless, what a stunning pup he is, really pleased to hear he is going to a great home too.

That's appalling that they left him to go to lunch, , whilst it is probably a good thing she is not covering up or making excuses it beggars belief that anyone - let alone a professional groomer would think this is ok. As to asking if there is anything you would like, sadly that is beyond her power thanks to her negligent excuses for employees. BronsonW - with all due respect nobody in their right mind would want to be offered reduced price grooming by such an establishment, they killed her beloved dog through their actions. I can't imagine Cazstaff will ever want to step foot in there again. People are venting because they are so angry, shocked and upset and they want Cazstaff to get as many facts together as soon as possible whilst they are fresh in everyone's mind. Not that I imagine the horror of what happened will fade too quickly, I'm sure Cazstaff will decide for herself on the course of action she wants to take in time. Cazstaff, I truly hope you have someone close by at this terrible time. Please try to take care of yourself.

Their breed history is one of fighting/guarding and hunting so maybe the perception comes from this? People are usually pleasantly surprised when they meet our two - I just don't really want that to happen at the vet's though. They are usually stressed enough and I just like to get in and out. Our two go out and about quite a lot and I am always curious about their bad reputation too, when I ask people who pass negative comments why they think that way most cannot explain it or give me a good reason. It's weird.
-
Do people actually think they are scary? Have they seen how hidden away those teeth are? I suspect it is the drool that puts them off! They seem genuinely worried that they will bite their dogs/kids - don't think it is the drool,my two are not very drooly most of the time. Issy often sits with her mouth open if she is a bit stressed so her teeth are all too visible - I hadn't really thought about it before but maybe that could be why.
-
Our local vet calls if they are running late so we can cut down time spent in the waiting room - I also call before I go if the dogs have anything I even suspect may be contagious - sniffles/ upset stomach etc. The waiting area is small and it is nigh on impossible to avoid anyone who won't keep their dogs close. The nurses are very good and will ask people to shorten leads, wait outside or pop them in a separate room if possible so thankfully we don't often have an issue. I don't have any problems asking people to keep their dogs away either, and to be honest it is one time when people's perception of Shar Pei being aggressive works in our favour - they rarely approach and are keen to keep their dogs at what they perceive is a "safe distance" from the nasty wrinkly ones. I don't think I could get 2 crates which would have a combined weight of 50 kilos plus out of the car and into the surgery so that wouldn't work for me.

Tetanus Injections For Single Fang Puncture
coogie replied to Tazar's topic in General Dog Discussion
My OH recently got a single (but very deep and quite wide) puncture in his forearm breaking up a fight - he also had some shallower gouges and other breaks in the skin. Advice at the Medical Centre was exactly what Haredown Whippets said - better safe than sorry. They were reluctant to stitch as it was a bite - and they said it was safer to leave it open, they also packed it with antibiotics,it took a while to fully heal so I was glad he got the shot. -
Just do this Digby :D

I don't think I have an absolute favourite - depends on the dog. I have a "lilac " girl and a cream boy. I have always thought lilac was a bit of a poncy term but it is what she is officially. We are a bit spoilt for colours as my breed of choice has loads to choose from. I am sad however that flowered Shar Pei are now excluded from the standard,so you don't get to see many and I do love flowereds.
