  1. Tashnchief if they are north of Brisbane and get the ok from the vet I would recommend The Canine Fitness Centre at Morayfield, the specialist at QVS sent us there and whilst our girl had already had knee and hip surgery, I know Marion provides rehab to a number of large breed dogs with partial cruciate tears. They have both a pool and underwater treadmill. Link below if they choose that route and are interested in calling her. No link to the business other than a satisfied customer! 2. Really sorry to hear she is not going so well ness, heartbreaking after her recent progress. Hugs to you both.
  3. She is on the Pet Search page, some people are vile. She is microchipped apparently. Really hope they are reunited. John
  4. Really pleased he is feeling better Westiemum, Mac's is another thread I follow closely and have learned so much. He sounds like such a great little guy.Give him a gentle pat from all here.
  5. So sorry gwp4me, I have followed his thread quietly because I had nothing useful to add. I have learned lots from reading though and was so sad to see this, thankyou for sharing his journey. I think these threads can never be underestimated in the help they give people who have to go through the same trials you have. He was so lucky to have you caring for him. RIP Struppie, run free with your brother.

    Raiden

I only just saw this, I couldn't really process it ,having also stalked him through the puppy thread. So sorry to hear such awful news. RIP Raiden. Wishing you strength for the coming days Lhok.
  7. Not sure of what you are aiming for when you say peacefully, but I definitely wouldn't put my dogs in the position where the parrot (or anything else for that matter) can repeatedly bite them. Having been bitten a number of times by various parrots/birds I can safely say it's very painful. How have you prevented them from defending themselves so far? It's not really fair or even reasonable to expect they will just cop being bitten numerous times. Even if the dogs are scared one of them may retaliate and that will not be a good outcome for the parrot. Is there no way you can just make sure they don't have access to each other? Put the dogs in another room if the parrot is out? It might be that they will never co-exist peacefully, it seems highly unlikely that they will if the parrot continues to bite the dogs. Hope you can work it out and others have some solutions apart from separation but I can't think of one.
  8. Hope he is feeling better very soon Staffyluv.
  9. Our two are polar opposites, Issy is a complete mud pig and will happily go out to wee/walk come rain, hail or shine. Alf would happily stay in until he is desperate if it is wet, but wouldn't wee in the house. They have never been treated differently, I think some dogs just hate wet feet, I don't think anything would convince him to enjoy it, luckily he is marginally happier to go out than wee inside. This sums up Alf's feelings on the matter of wet grass and his sugar spun paws.
  10. Really sorry to hear, hugs to both of you.
  11. So sorry to read this, RIP little ones. Thanks for giving them every chance Tderikx. I hope you are ok.
  12. Sorry it's not helping ness. I have watched the videos and am far from an expert even 18 months in - but they do look quite different to Issy's sessions in the following ways: 1. Issy started with the water much higher - I don't know if it's the angle of the camera but pretty much all of Kenz's body seems to be out of the water - the buoyant part of the jacket is barely getting wet, do you think they are taking enough weight off her legs? Issy was virtually swimming to start with. 2. It seems to stop and start a lot - and it seems to stop with quite a jerk too, is that just the treadmill or do they just switch it straight off? The place we use it just slows really gradually to a stop. 3. Issy started with guide ropes front and back that attached to both sides of the treadmill to help steady her and keep her gait balanced. It also still looks really slow to me, almost like she can't step out and stretch because she is being forced to move but only in baby steps if that makes sense? Has your guy in the states seen the video? Hope the specialist can help.
  13. There are braces and prosthetics available Corie, I did a lot of research when we were looking at options down the track for Issy, the best ones I found were Orthopets and the Australian distributor was Dogs in Motion in Melbourne. It is something I might consider again if we need to later on. I am comfortable that she is currently fine and reasonably pain free, whilst I would look at theses I don't know that I would go ahead if the only way she could ever get about would be in a brace - I am not convinced she would have enough quality of life, there are some remarkable videos of the products though, and they seem to make a huge difference to some of the dogs. Links below if anyone wants to check them out. Orthopets Dogs in Motion
  14. Yes, hopefully all good doesn't sound like he would have ingested anywhere near that, also lists things to look for - never sure whether to link stuff as the last thing you want to do is add to the stress. As a veteran of the Sunday night dash due to a dog that has an uncanny knack of getting injured/ill out of hours, I have a lot of sympathy!
  15. There is some info here Lisey about what to look out for - there are a few sites but all say pretty much the same thing. I'm not surprised you are annoyed. Nicotine poisoning and pets.
  16. I would go to the vet, can you find out the strength of the gum? Nicotine is very toxic to dogs. If you can find out how much was ingested in relation to the size of the dog it would probably help the vet advise you if you can't get there. Hope he is ok.
  17. That sounds promising, ness, it's good they are listening to you and willing to get input. Hoping she is not sore after her session.
  18. Hmm, as with most things there seems to be a huge variety of practice and advice with hydro - Issy never walked the fill or drain in the first three months. We were advised they were both harder work than walking once she had some buoyancy and too much for her to start with. She still doesn't walk through the first part of the fill or the last few inches of the drain. Her warm up is at about 3.9 ks an hour and her main jog can be between 6 and 7 ks an hour depending on how she is travelling.Cool down back to between 3 and 4ks. Anything over 7 ks she just jacks up. I am definitely noticing a slow down as it gets colder despite the water being heated. We are keeping up monthly pentosan shots and back to "rugging" her for cold nights and I have got her wheat bag out ready. Also gone back to some of her more structured walking - hills, figures of eight and lots of physio/massage. Also put the baby gate back up out the back to halt the bursts of speed off the low step/deck out the back.Trying to hold off on any anti inflammatories unless she starts to visibly limp. Ness, she has been having Glyde for a long time now, do you think it would be worth trying the Rose Hip?
  19. I used this one, it was so hard to find a neutral expression. Seems like she is pulling faces in just about every photo.

  21. Persephone the vet checked our boy for nasal mites when he had similar symptoms but he actually had tonsillitis and the pus was what made him vomit. He was flat, not eating etc. He did also have a lot of nasal discharge though which was what made the vet check for mites as it is apparently a common symptom. He looked up Alf's nose with a type of nasal scope though(sorry don't know the technical term), he didn't swab, but he did make a slide of the discharge to look under the microscope. He did say if it was mites we would need to treat both dogs as they can be transmitted from dog to dog. Luckily for us he checked Alf's throat at the same time.I would be asking for a further investigation in case he has something lodged in his nose causing an infection. Did he offer any treatment? Such a worry when you can't get an answer.
  22. Good news ness, hope it starts to show results.
