Border River is the only place I'll put Stella now. They are lovely people and genuinely care for your dogs. Rates are very reasonable and dogs spend a lot of time daily playing outside.

Best Way To Get Dog Hair Off The Couch!
crazydoglady replied to Squidgy's topic in General Dog Discussion
In our house, we reason that's why it's called fur-niture. But my dyson and the turbine head really help. Rubber gloves are also a fab idea. -

There are a couple of good stores on Etsy that make Greyhound and Whippet coats and jammies. I am getting some off there for Stella. They will make them to your measurements.

I don't know what to say. I am gobsmacked by the ignorance the OP is displaying. The replies have been heartfelt, informative and right. Every dog, thats right, DOG, will have to see a vet at some point. So when my dog tears ligaments in her other leg, should I just hold her til it goes away?? I'm truly sorry about what happened, but one bad experience should not condemn your future pets to a life of potential pain with no medical care. I wish you luck, and I hope that you are taking in what the others are trying to tell you. I have learnt so much from these forums, and I hope you do too.

I have been following Pearl's story for some time, and I am so happy that she is going to a loving home! She is truly lucky to have been found and rescued by such wonderful and loving people. She looks so very happy, for probably the first time in her life, and feels loved and safe. Her beautiful face brings tears to my eyes as she looks loved! So expressive and intelligent. I really do hope that you two are proud of what you have done for Pearl. She has come such a long way and you really deserve to be commended. I re-read both her threads and am having a little cry for her, as she deserves that too. I just want to smoosh her gorgeous face! Good luck, Pearl!

Ridiculous/awesome Names
crazydoglady replied to Chequeredblackdog's topic in General Dog Discussion
God, there are some awesome names on here! I love unusual names for pets. Trying to remember all the ones we have had, lol. Dogs: Roger, Jess, Pete, Poppy, Bubbi (was stray), Wally (Wallace Tripod Furperson has three legs), Stella Cats: Ebony (black burmese, original) and Blaze is my orange tabby, named so because his eyes are bright orange. My mums is Koko, God of Mischief, it totally fits, lol. Had budgies called Mickey, Gerry, Sandy and Jingo (after a Terry Pratchett novel) Guinea pigs Shelly and my little brother called his Fluffy I had mice too, but can't remember what their names were, lol. Oh, one was Sooty. I also love the name Pivot for a whippet! ETA: our stepfathers staffy is names Rasta, short for Rastafarian. -
Dont Exercise Around Your Animals.
crazydoglady replied to kitkatswing's topic in General Dog Discussion
I can't do any yoga as its hard when there is a toy being shoved in your face, your hands are full of paws that are forced in there and a 38kg dog on your back when your laying on the floor trying to stretch. I generally give up, much to Stella's dismay, as I get worn out much quicker than just doing the yoga. -
My mums male chi used to collect my underwear. If it went missing it would be in a pile under her bed. Still dont get it, lol.

I know which kennels they are, and refuse to leave my animals there. I use the pet resort at Rothwell. My dog has separation anxiety and I was concerned about leaving her as she had a really bad experience at another kennel on the southside. When we picked her up from Rothwell, I dont know if she really wanted to come home, lol. She was real happy and looked healthy and clean. They do playtime and walks and other things with the dogs so they have plenty of human time everyday. Im sorry, but try not to worry, they will be fine and have a wonderful holiday!

She was way too young, taken way too soon. Im so sorry. Hugs to you all.

Stella gets: Stella-Bella, Big, Biggie, Big-Big, Pup-Pup-Puppy and a few other variations. If you sing at all she comes running and shoves her face into yours, as if to say "No! Stop! Its awful!" Or just say that someone is here and she bolts inside for the door. Works every time. EDIT: She also gets Miss or Naughty-Miss.

Made the bed and walked away. Remembered my phone was still there 10 mins later, and found this: I have more, but they are on the external. Stella makes us laugh every single day, which is why we love her so!

Scary night! My dog will try to protect me from strange men, including the OH if he pretends to hurt me (she just lays there and barks and whines at him as if to say "stop it daddy!"). It is quite funny sometimes. I yelled out Ow one day after I was stung by a bee and she came bolting out the back door and looked for anything that could have been the culprit. I really don't think she would let you on the property, but I do worry about what would happen if someone did and she bit them. You hear these stories about people getting into trouble because their dog bit someone who broke into the house. I'm sorry, but I would want my dog to defend us and our home in those circumstances. Isn't it part of the reason you get a dog? Or is this a way of thinking that is wrong?

One of Stellas favourite games is "kissies for daddy!" she get really excited and runs out to give the OH a huge wet kiss. LOL. We use it like a game, doesn't worry any of us. My mums chi loves it too. But you have to be careful, as he gets his tongue right up your nose if your not careful!

Ruptured Cruciate Ligaments And Cat Flu....
crazydoglady replied to Chequeredblackdog's topic in General Dog Discussion
Stella had hers done on August for $1600. She is slow recovering though, our vet said every dog is different. We go to hydrotherapy once a week and we do exercises at home everyday, as well as a short walk a few times a week. She is 36kgs and when I spoke to our vet (after doing plenty of research!), we decided to trust his decision and go with the cheaper option. Money was not an option for us, we just wanted Stella to be ok and not in pain anymore, no matter what the cost. She is doing just fine, and should be 100% by January at her current rate. Every dog is different with cruciate. Good luck with yours! Hope it goes smoothly, and I am sure that your new kitten will hurry things along, too. -
Separation Anxiety
crazydoglady replied to crazydoglady's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thank you everyone for replying. We will try to implement these ideas as soon as we can. I just want her to be happy and it upsets me to leave her and I worry about her all day because I know she is stressing. Looks like a clicker is the next investment! -
Separation Anxiety
crazydoglady replied to crazydoglady's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
We tried doing our leaving routine but not leaving, over and over. Pretending to leave then coming straight back, over and over. We even had a shock collar with a remote. We would pretend to leave but just stand out the front with the remote for when she barked. A tightly wound jumper, like a compression wrap. Did you have another suggestion? I have a large cat that would not like dogs coming and going all the time. Just getting him used to one dog will be bad enough. I thought about fostering. I would probably really like it. But, my grumpy old man would not, lol. -
Separation Anxiety
crazydoglady replied to crazydoglady's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
These are my thoughts too. My partner is dead against another dog at the moment, I have wanted a second for a long time. She loves being with her girlfriend, a doberman of the same age, and is so good when they are together. The other dog will have to be young and want to play. She is big and can be rough so an older dog would not be a good idea. My concern is, if we do get a second dog, can this behaviour rub off on the new addition? Will I then be doubling our problem? I have always had dogs, but this is the first time I have had to deal with a dog with anxiety so its all new to me.
