  2. :D Radar was lifting his leg when i got him at 12 weeks old, thats why he has to wear a belly band inside
  3. my boy had swelling as well, i thought at first they had left bits behind but i took him back to the vet and what had happened he had bled back into the scrotum
  4. i feed brisket bones as they are a softer bone, chicken frames, necks and wings also lamb neck and turkey necks, so they get a good variety i also dont feed lamb shanks for the same reason, i watched one of the dogs eating them and the bone ends up broken up into long spear like pieces which i was not comfortable with
  5. can she sleep with your male chi i never had that problem with my little dog, he sleeps with me
  6. I get mine already made Big Dog Canine Country
  7. or sunlight soap, i know someone who lives in Childers with the famous red dirt and swears by it
  8. cheaper food = cheaper low grade ingredients, mainly grains and fillers
  9. i personally would not feed a big meal in the morning due to the fact they are more active and i don't want to risk bloat
  10. Hi kaceymegs I have previously used Advance and never had a problem with my Shepherds and Malamute, the only reason i am not using it now is i have switched to raw. A friend feeds all her dogs advance, all she adds is a tin of sardines every night and they all have beautiful shiny coats and are very healthy, you will just have to see if it works for your dog. What is the breeder feeding your pup at the moment
  11. i just got off the phone to my vet, i dropped off my 7yr old to be desexed, she came into season on the 25th Feb, it was a normal season and then came back in a week later, as far as i knew she has been out of season for 3 weeks or more and yet they said she was still in season so the op took twice as long and there was a lot of blood loss Knowing that i wouldnt recommend getting a female desexed while in season but in a way i am glad i did it when i did as there is obviously something wierd happening with her.
  12. i had a German Shepherd that had bloat when he was 3 and was operated on and also had his spleen removed, when he was about 8 i was finding he was the same after eating as well so our vet put him on the charcoal tablets and it did work, from memory he had 2 tablets at night with tea. I only fed him once a day and he was fed on a raw diet http://www.petshed.com/products/item2906.asp
  13. i had a dog bloat few years back i got him to a vet and he was operated on his stomach is now perm attached to his ribs on advise from a vet i now give both my dogs 2 charcoal tablets every single night forgot to say i was already in the vets the other evening for something else and my dog seemed to be early stages of bloat due to distress he was in so the vet shoved charcoal down his throat so might pay to keep some handy rugerfly
  14. my dog has been getting barf since his bloat, he was a 3 when he had bloat he will be 9 this year. I also started him on dry afterwards at the vets insistance but i found he actually wasnt digesting the dry food it would come out the other end sometimes looking exactly like it went in some pieces of dry food where still fully formed so i changed him back to his barf diet after talking to a few people as i was told raw foods have natual enzymes that help break down in the stomach and we haven't looked back. He also has his stomach attached to his ribs and we have had no further problems.
  15. David sorry to hear and i know what your going through so my fingers are crossed for you and i hope it will all work out but also thankyou, i have my 8yr old dog at the vets as we speak he had blood tests Monday and they have knocked him out today to xray his whole body as he hasn't been himself and has been really sick since last Thursday, he too does that nasel drawback but like you i never thought much of it until reading this so i am going to mention it to the vet when i pick him up in the next hour, depending if they have found anything else.
  16. Hi Ci i agree about not turning this into an arguement but when someone comes out and says It kind of makes it personal, i dont think anyone here would take to kindly someone who doesn't even know them telling them they not only neglect there dog but there kids as well. Alot of people who are not vaccinating there dogs every year have done the research we didn't wake up one morning and decided thats it no more vaccinations. gusgem none of us have said we do not vaccinate at all, my older dog had every vaccination up until he was 5, it just was not worth the risk to vaccinate him any more and he is the healthiest i have seen him in years, no skin problems, no more vomiting for no reason, no big lumps on his body where he was vaccinated that would remain for weeks, the list goes on. My younger dog has had all puppy vaccinations and the one year booster so far as well.
  17. I have a dog that has had a reaction to vaccinations since a pup (so it does happen)but each year the reaction was getting worse and worse, so do you suggest i keep vaccinating him each year until it finally kills him......i think not So yes i am very serious about my dogs health and he will never be vaccinated again I am also a firm believer in not over vaccinating
  18. Hi Whisper Have you done any basic obedience with your puppy yet?? I have a young boisterous German Shepherd so i know exactly what they can be like at feed time. I taught my pup to sit then rewarded him with food, then when i made him sit i would extend the time before giving him the reward so he knew he had to sit and wait for the treat, it didn't take long they are smart dogs and know what to do to get there food reward, then i did the same with the bowl of food, i would make him sit and would not put the food down until he did no matter how long it took he knew he would not get the bowl until he sits, just ignore the jumping and carry on and only put the food down when he is sitting, if you go to put the bowl down and he gets up, just hold to bowl up again until he does what you want. As for the cat, to keep the peace why don't you lock the cat inside while the dog is eating, my dogs will allow me to take there food and go up to them but i feed them a few metres apart and neither of them will tolerate the other coming near there food and they respect that and won't even try even when my younger dog is finished first he will wait until the older dog is finished then explore the bowl or grass for any left overs. Good luck with your puppy
  19. I fed my youngest German Shepherd barf from the day i brought him home, he had porridge in the mornings with yoghurt and honey and at night he had chicken wings bashed with a meat cleaver and mixed with veges and some suppliments like vit c, apple cider, cottage cheese, the cottage cheese idea i got from a US board they swear by it for growing puppies.
  20. there are some excellent sites with heaps of informations, here is one i like, or do a search on Gastric Torsion http://www.kifka.com/Elektrik/Bloat.htm#Symptoms When i found my dog, he was walking round in a circle trying to vomit unsuccessfully, he had the blown up stomach and kept laying down, he was also very restless
  21. I think if your dog is going to get bloat (gastric torsion), it will get it no matter what you do to try and stop it, if you have a breed that is prone to bloat you just have to know the signs and act quick to get them to a vet I also think it may be genetic to a small degree My dog had bloat when he was 3 He was not fed dry food what so ever as he was on barf He did not eat anything anyway that night He was not exercised that afternoon I got home from work at midnight and found him so rushed him to the vet, he now has his stomach perm. attached to his ribs and he also had his spleen removed. I knew what to look for as i had heard that several dogs related to him had died of bloat so was warned what to look for as i would not have had a clue otherwise.
