  1. I know these aren't great, but was my first go of full manual mode last night in the house. I haven't edited them at all as my lightroom has crashed and I can't get it working. You can see how my house looks yellow. nose is out of focus on most of them
  2. oooh that's nifty tlc, thanks!
  3. yes I saw some others mention the ISO numbers to stick to so I've been trying to do that even though I don't currently understand it fully :) Thanks for the tips
  4. I will do some experimenting on our back patio as the lighting should be similar
  5. Thanks Huga, TLC & Snook for your comments. Snook, I train there every week and its my business so it would be good to have decent shots to put on the FB page and website. Looks like I'll have to add a flash to my list of camera wants. If I use the built in flash and get the point and shoot look, would you expect them to be better quality than a regular point and shoot camera? Shutter speed is a lot quicker than my old camera so that's one plus with moving dogs.
  6. okay, will see how I go with the flash. What would be the fastest that I can set my shutter speed? And should the aperture be higher?
  7. What about the built in flash? I actually don't know how I managed not to set it on
  8. meant to do that :) just added the details under each pic. Was just experimenting tonight, didn't really know how much to adjust each setting
  9. I'd like to learn the best settings for low light photos so I can take decent shots at my training classes. They are held in a school undercover area with crappy lighting. I took my first full manual mode shots tonight and at least you can see the photos but they are quite noisy. I'd like to find the best settings for this area and save it as a preset. This is the area F - 1.4 shutter speed 1/160 ISO 6400 no flash. 50mm lens F - 1.4 shutter speed 1/100 ISO 3200 no flash. 50mm lens

  11. It looks like you're aiming for a washed out look, in which case they look pretty good to me :) that's from a total beginner though so I could be way off
  12. Another question- my camera has 2 card slots so I use both, I chose to have one as JPEG and one as RAW so that I can experiment with RAW files. But when I put the card that's meant to have RAW on it into the computer, it says they are JPEGS. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? I have checked both cards.
  13. selfies are quite challenging I think! Definitely! Not for a newbie. I had fun at the start but it wore off quickly when I couldn't get any good shots. Was wishing my remote was here already too. I learned something new though - the self timer can only take multiple shots if the flash is off. The photos were supposed to be an anniversary present to my husband so I will make do with what I have and the rest of the gift can be that he can take some of me himself LOL
  14. Taking selfies today was not successful
  15. I've been curious about this also. Is it something a newbie is going to miss/wish I had been able to afford? Or just something to aim towards in the distant future as an upgrade.
  16. Wow both those shots are lovely
  17. Can't wait to see pics from that one :) I like the sound of that one because of the macro ability too. Its on my list of future possibilities. But I have to learn to use the camera first :) and have to stop spending all my money!
  18. What did you get? I'm waiting on a package too, from Kja :D Did you buy the Kelly Moore bag she had for sale? (at least I think that was kja..) I've got the hobo bag in grey and it's just gorgeous. You'll love it. :D Yes I did :) very excited about it. It'll help me to take my camera everywhere, in style
  19. What did you get? I'm waiting on a package too, from Kja :D
  20. So far I have used the timer function, I set it on the tripod or something sturdy and usually put something in the spot where I am going to be and focus the camera on that then press the shutter, you have 10 seconds or whatever time your camera allows you to get in position. I have no idea if this is how its meant to be done but it does work. I guess I'll find out tomorrow :)
  21. It's okay, I know how annoying autocorrect is :)
  22. What about the timer function? I have to take some selfies tomorrow, I'm on a time limit and I need to make them as good as I can. I won't have anyone to help me. Otherwise I have to figure out something else for an anniversary pressie to hubby on Saturday lol
  23. I would like to know that too for when mine arrives. It hasn't come yet. I need to change my screen name, people keep calling me lollipop
  24. I'm so happy about this, thanks for starting this up, it will really help me to learn :D I have a backlog of photos I need to edit and save already... But while shooting new ones, here is my first question. If I take a photo indoors in our house at night, it's very yellow, because out lights are yellow, the tiles are orangy-yellow, and one of the dogs is yellow. So what settings should I try to counteract this? Or is this a question for another thread?
