  1. Contact Camp Tailwaggers. I don't think there are any spots available but let me know how you go? PM me if you like
  2. I think this has more to do with the size and/or capacity of your card. I did buy a Sandisk Extreme Pro 16g card but it didn't help much in 14 bit raw where I can only get about 5 or 6 frames before it slows down to like 2fps or stops completely? A friend's 7D I shot with reeled out 15 frames at full speed easily in raw, the longer buffer and 8fps of the D7 was noticable over my D7000. I could have a setting or two wrong also still learning my way around the camera? Are you shooting in JPEG or NEF? JPEG is ok with the smaller files it's in NEF where mine really slows up......the Nikon manual says it should do 14 frames in NEF on continuous burst, but mine won't come close to that??. I have 2 cards in it, one is JPEG and one is NEF. I'll give it a better go later though because I think I have only used continuous earlier on when I only had the one JPEG card in it.
  3. Sorry your friend went through this. Try and find a rescue group that are experienced with behaviour so that they can properly assess the dogs they are placing into homes. A few other ideas come to mind but I'm sure some more experienced rescue people will come to give you some advice.
  4. Hopefully :) I am just saving up all my photos in the meantime. I have Photoshop, but LR is so much simpler and is the only kind of editing I really want to do right now. I have taken some shots in RAW and can't wait to get them into LR for a go :)
  5. Thanks, hope your mum is better soon too :) I like that you have brightened it up a bit so it looks clearer, but it does look slightly too orange on my screen :) I probably would have done it the same way though if my LR was working. I tried the trial version and same thing happens. I think it might be because my harddrive is doing that recovery. It has about 96 hours to go so I'll have to wait until its done and then hopefully I will have LR back
  6. oooh I forgot about that, I only glimsed it on my phone only so off to see it now :)
  7. So sorry for your loss Teebs. I haven't been in the situation for a long time. But I remember when we were kids one of our dogs was killed in front of all of us and for that night only us kids were allowed the dogs in the bed. We were afraid something would happen to them too and were treasuring the moments with them thinking how short their lives are. These days my dogs sleep in their own beds but occasionally when I am feeling down or when I am thinking about loss, they are allowed to sleep with us for a treat. I don't think it does them any harm. As others said, she would probably be unsure with all the changes so go a little easier on her. Hugs to you all.
  8. For some reason, the fourth pic in your last post stands out to me the most tlc, I like it :)
  9. Look up kikopup on youtube, she is very popular on there. She does tutorials on tricks, obedience and behaviour problem solving. She uses 'progressive reinforcement' which is a term she came up with herself rather than just clicker training.
  10. BUT - as a hobbyist it's my luxury to be able to train like that and to be blessed with the dogs that I have. Each to their own! The only thing I don't like seeing is aversives used as a first resort before the dog has had a chance to learn and generalise all the baffling human rules they have to live by I think that's a good point.
  11. No, I think you still have to have some ethical guidelines to stick to. I think anyone who loves dogs enough to get into training would want to do what is best for the dog and wouldn't want to intentionally hurt a dog, I know I wouldn't want that. I'm still learning so if down the track I learn more and it turns out one way really is better than another, I'll take that into consideration and adapt my methods. I genuinely want what is best for the dogs.
  12. I think it would be a real shame if in 20 years time the only acceptable training method was positive reinforcement. Do you really believe that every dog can be trained using "100% positive training" only? Taking into account the difference in each dog and handler, the different goals, behaviour problems and purpose for which people train I am always a bit perplexed when someone thinks that there is a one size fits all approach for training. Personally, I don't see how anyone could train '100% positively' because there is always some element of stress in learning. Removing a reward from a dog can be more aversive than giving a correction with a prong or e-collar. It's about context and the dog you have in front of you. I don't really understand the us and them mentality that these kinds of threads generate. I'm not sure what we think will be achieved from running down other trainers or their methods. If someone wants to be a DELTA qualified trainer and use only those methods and style of training props to them, but forcing that style of training on to everyone else is tiring and I don't understand why so many people waste their energy trying to convince everyone else that their training style is the only one that is 'right'. Dog training is not black and white and there is a lot more to it than being a training who uses positive reinforcement only and being a trainer who uses compulsion or aversives. I really could not care less about the methods other trainers use, I'm far more interested in seeing the results they get with the dogs and humans they work with. If a 100% positive only approach is getting them super results, that's brilliant. If a trainer uses compulsion or aversives and achieves super results, great! Most pet owners that seek help from professional trainers don't know or care about quadrants or training theory in general. They care about the results you can help them to achieve with their dogs. That's why I find these kinds of debates (and we all love a good debate) generally become really tiring, pointless and honestly quite pathetic. Training shouldn't be about positive vs negative, at least I don't think it should be. It should be about getting the best result for dog and handler. I'm not sure what else matters more than that. Well said, I agree with everything you have said. In my training classes I use clicker training and it generally gets good results for pet dogs. The other week some students were having trouble getting their GSD to drop without the lure. I could have spent ages teaching them how to phase it out properly and they could have kept struggling through and eventually get it, but they were getting frustrated and so was the dog and they needed to see results now. So for that dog in that instance I used a bit of compulsion which had the dog dropping on command within a couple of minutes. I was glad that I had learned a few different methods and had the flexibility to use what was right for that dog and those owners in that situation. They didn't really care how they got there, they cared about the results.
  13. I thought I might pop this one in here as it tells a story for me. Mum is really sick and my sister came to visit on the weekend and was trying to make her smile.
  14. I think this has more to do with the size and/or capacity of your card. I have a D7000 with class 10 memory cards in it and haven't experienced any trouble with it so far? I've done a few continuous bursts on high speed and it seemed to cope well
  15. Thank you, yes first thing I thought when I put it on the computer was that I should have used a higher aperture for more focus! But I really like that shot with mum because of the emotion. She is very sick and my sister was trying to make her smile and she did for just this brief moment. Thanks and yep, go for it :) I've done a few down low with the dogs but they see you get down and come running! Thanks Snook I appreciate all the feedback :)
  16. My sister and my mum today My sis and her dog Chester begging Lola Chester all in full manual :)
  17. I handed in my last assessments in January this year, by the end of May they had all approved (my deadline was officially the end of April, but they hadn't finished with my assessments by then) and I received my certificate in June this year. I received my first written material + DVD's in April last year, so not sure how you want to count when I finished? If you count finished as in finished doing all my assessments it took 9 months, finished as in getting all the assessments back it took 13 months, and finished as in having received my certificate, it took 14 months. I think I am that other Qld student and if you are who I think you are (from FB?) I agree your video should have been approved and it was more thorough than mine. I agree with a lot of what you have said actually, and I also found the assessors incredibly inconsistent. I also found you had to answer the questions their way, straight from the text and if you put it in your own way or used your own opinion they wouldn't approve it. I had one sent back 3 times because I had put it in my own words even though the answer was the same. I eventually copied the answer from the text and it passed. While I learned a lot from the course, I think some parts were somewhat biased. I haven't done Delta but I think it sounds like it is biased in a different way. Between the two of them, I really wish we had better options in Australia for dog training qualifications. I think the CASI course in Canada looks very thorough and I'd love to do it. You can do it online too so maybe the OP could look into that. A friend of mine is doing their shelter course and its very thorough. To be honest I find it sad that instructors from either course are biased in some way and also sad that there has to be a 'them and us' mentality in dog training. Some NDTF instructors claim to be balanced trainers but spend a lot of their time bashing the 'other side.' I don't think this is balanced. I'm still glad I did the course as I learned a lot and it got me into the industry but I think I would have also been glad to do the Delta course if I had gone that way, but I wouldn't like to fall to an extreme on either side. Yeah, that would be me from FB :) I hope my post wasn't too negative, I did enjoy all the learning theory and watching the DVD's (apart from the really boring ones) and I'm glad I did the course because it was a way to get into the industry. No I thought it was a really honest review and I know where you are coming from :)
  18. Cool I'll be the girl with the border collie, that ought to narrow it down
  19. snap Weasels, same course I am referring to :) I would love to do it but agree you would need to be getting hands on experience somewhere as well. It looks so much more comprehensive than our options in Oz though!

  21. It wasn't very well broadcast I don't think, I only found out about it by seeing an NDTF student post on FB that she was going. I guess they manage to get booked out easily by word of mouth
  22. I live in Adelaide. Even so I thought long and hard about it. I think she is fantastic and love her YouTube channel I almost didn't but then I thought about it and really, her youtube channel was one of the first things to get me into training so I would love to meet her and see her seminar. I have really enjoyed her videos. Slightly intimidated too though, because I am not a purely progressive reinforcement trainer like she is. Surely I won't be the only one though.
  23. I hadn't heard of them either, looks like they are grey importers. I bought from CameraPro and found them to be the cheapest Australian prices and have full Australian warranties.
