  1. Lola (4yrs old) does the half cock squat or fully cocks her leg. She marks territory and pees over Chester's pees. Chester is 2 years old and he still squats and doesn't mark territory. I have only seen him cock his leg once in his whole life and it was recently. Lola also tries to hump him which he hardly ever does. She is boss. Both were desexed at around 6 months of age.
  2. I don't know about the training costs as I know they pay for it but the other costs look exaggerated.
  3. Hey, I have met them personally. From meeting them I would say they are legit. They are only a new group but seem to be trying to do things properly. They have a few dogs in care that need rehabilitation and they are paying a behaviourist for board and training. A couple of those are the neo mastiff and st bernard, I have met both dogs. The group is run by 2 NDTF students and they are working with the trainer who runs the NDTF course on the Sunshine Coast. I asked them recently if they could take a dog but they didn't have room (was just before xmas) I can tell you they are not like PR :)
  4. I am so sincerely sorry for your loss. How tragic reading your post brought tears to my eyes. This is in NO way your fault. I know nothing can bring Buddy back, but I would be so mad and I would sue too. RIP beautiful Buddy.
  5. We're with Pet Plan and we are able to pay the excess at the vet and the vet claims the rest themselves, we love being able to do it this way but I think it would depend on the vet whether they will let you do this.
  6. Me - Learn what all those letters mean... Get fit & healthy so that I can train with the dogs better Give both dogs some training time every day and exercise every day Tick off my goals that lead me to the next dog I am planning for, maybe not 2013 but hopefully by the following year! Chester & Lola - Work on improving impulse control Longer & more reliable stay & recall 100% LLW Chester particularly: Stop injuring himself or getting sick Less anxious, more happy dog and a heap of other doggy goals that aren't really training related but more me getting my butt into gear.
  7. This made me cringe. Poor, poor dog. I hope they do see the edited video and stop putting the dog through this. It can only go so far before there's a bite
  8. They put a latch on the garage inside door so Lola can't open it and let herself in whenever she wants. Yet to happen to the back door but it's going to!
  9. Hi there. A friend of mine trainer her own assistance dog (medical alert dog for epilepsy) and had the dog accredited, I think it was through Assistance Dogs Australia but I can't quite remember whether it was definitely that org. I will find out for you.
  10. The Canine Classroom runs at Kawana, Coolum and a suburb in Brisbane as well and I recommend them http://thecanineclassroom.com.au/
  11. They are proposing an off leash area where I live as we don't have many. It's a beach with park lands surrounding it, really nice. There was a time I would have been all for it but thinking about how many dog fights I have heard of happening in off lead parks and the lack of common sense I know abounds, I hesitate to support it. Especially since the proposal includes designated times for off leash being allowed - peak times. This means everyone will go there for off leash time at once, more dogs, more potential for danger. So while the idea is good in theory and while dogs do need off lead exercise, I don't think this is the best decision, sadly. Off Lead parks - Are you for or against them and what are your reasons?
  12. I'm going to make a slow motion video of Lola! I have one of Chester with some slow mo in it -
  13. Hopefully it influences the prospective buyers, they have had 3 put their hand up for a pup so far.
  14. I know, like a friend of mine who bred her dark brown mare to a black stallion and got a chestnut foal and just couldn't understand how that happened, they wanted a dark foal.
  15. Thanks. I mentioned the issue in a following post and also mentioned that if they mate red to choc they will most likely get black. I won't put a link unless they ask, they will most likely attack me now anyway. Hopefully it will make them think although this was a following post by them, someone asked, are you a registered breeder and then they wrote this:
  16. corrected my reply to say tested, not testes
  17. This was my reply, trying to be nice: Please make sure you get both parents testes for hips, elbows, CEA, CL & TNS. These are all common border collie heridary diseases which are not necessarily seen in the parents and some are fatal. I would hate for you to breed affected puppies who will break their new owners' hearts due a fatal disease. Breeding for colour is often the way these diseases are produced. The corect term for the colour you are referring to is red, not wheaten. I own one who came from a registered breeder and he developed elbow dysplasia at 4 months of age. I would not wish anyone to go through what we have been through with him. Please think about the decision to breed carefully - if its a hobby you really wish to pursue, contact a registered ethical breeder who performs all health tests and have them mentor you. Have a read of this thread, it shows the heart break that happens when border collies are not health tested. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/238882-sick-border-collie-pup/ There are also a lot of expressions of interest.
  18. Thank you! I will look up the red to red mating issue too. ETA I'm not sure where to look for a good link on that?
  19. Can someone please post the link to the sick border collie puppy thread? I want the link to post as part of my reply to this post on a FB page:
  20. yes - Chester is just so sensitive and will cower at loud noises or if anyone raises their voice or lifts a hand up towards him. We have never hit him, he has just always been that way. I often say that a stranger would think we abused him. It makes me sad So many people think their dog has been abused in the past when they have an unknown past and I wonder how many actually have.
  21. I'm always thinking about it too. But sort of starting to plan now but no set time frame but a list of things to accomplish before I get another dog. So it depends when the list is finished and when the next one is available. I'm thinking 1-2 years. Maybe more, no less.
  22. I checked with Steve Austin and it was him that was hired for this job so they would be related to Em! :) ESS is on my wanted breeds one day list!
  23. All things dog here too, and some horse things. anything animal related When clean run has free shipping excited me too When my dogs behave and make me look good instead of embarrassing me When the dogs poop like clock work When the butcher has the good bones that I like to get for the dogs New leashes, I have so many different leashes New collars The search for the perfect harness Dog gear bags Getting a good photo of a dog When my "dog friends" on FB comment on my dog related statuses because they are the only ones who get it
  24. Beautiful photo TSD! I love ESS's! I wonder if they were trained by Steve Austin & crew? I live near Bargara and we do see a lot of foxes around. While I think they are cute I understand what they mean as a pest and this is a much better way than bates. We already have baits around as it is for dingoes and foxes so hopefully this will mean less of them. We came across a bait area warning sign at Woodgate beach the other week and we had the dogs there at the off lead area, was a bit scary!
