Awl Ipswich Suspended Until Further Notice
Lollipup replied to SueM's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
This link may help explain what is going on. Very sad http://www.savingpets.com.au/2013/03/a-disaster-unfolds-in-ipswich/ -
This is such a worry. it's happening all over Queensland too. A friend just up the road from us caught someone jump his back fence and try to take his bull breed type dog and they tried to take the neighbour's dogs too. He has now put barbed wire along the tops of all his fences and keeps the dog inside. Makes me very nervous. It hurts to imagine the feeling of your dog being stolen and not knowing where they are ending up and what's being done to them

very nice!

I thought that was strange too. It obviously isn't a financial issue as to why it wasn't done. Maybe she heard from somewhere that the dog was too small - possible an ill informed breeder or vet? I do feel for the lady. It's great that she is so devoted to getting the dog back. I hope she is aware to check the pound - lots of people aren't. It sounds like the dog has used the dog door and then the yard isn't secure?

That's amazing. Did you see how she pushed the ball towards the car and and other objects and knew to stop before she ran into anything? I agree the "just a dog" comment at the end wasn't well thought out.

We don't have kids either, and Ive not been invited to many over the years (I think because my friends know I couldn't have babies, and that the shower parties will upset me ) Im tempted to do one for Miah, and have been considering it, just don't have the energy to put one together, and I have noone else that would do one for me. Sorry to hear that Jules I think if you want it you should do it - any excuse for a fun get together that is dog related. I'm thinking I'll start a thread for ideas. I have one crazy dog friend and she has kindly offered to throw it for me. Most of my other friends aren't dog people but I'm going to invite them anyway, then I'm also going to invite some of my long term dog training clients too to get a few more dog people involved. Do you have some dol friends nearby that you could invite?

Phantom is gorgeous Emery!

I was talking to another dog crazy friend tonight and she mentioned that she is attending a baby shower tomorrow. Since neither of us have kids but we love dogs, we came up with the idea that we should have puppy showers. I wonder if anyone else has done that? I don't know if many of my friends would take it seriously if I really did that lol!

Great suggestions, I will have a think over those. Thank you :) I like Kaiser but I already know a couple of dogs with that name.

Any name ideas for a malinois? I am hoping to get a male. The litter is the K litter but it doesn't have to start with K. I want something unique but easy to say.

Belgian Malinois Attacks, Kills 9 Yr Old Girl In Phillipines
Lollipup replied to Lollipup's topic in In The News
Interesting SG... I guess as breeds become more popular they are vulnerable to poor breeding and training practices and especially guarding breeds. Its such a shame. I'd be very interested to know the background of the dog as well. -
I'll post full details when I get the puppy or maybe when confirmed in whelp by ultrasound. I don't want to jynx it!

Okay, Belgian Malinois :D

I stumbled across this news article from the Phillipines. It just happened in January. So very sad and how traumatic for the family. I wonder what made the dog do this. Poor "attack" training maybe? http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/349229/belgian-malinois-attacks-kills-9-year-old-girl-in-zamboanga-city

Tango is gorgeous! The matings have taken place between my future pup's parents!

Vibrating Collar Or E-collar For Deaf Dog
Lollipup replied to superminty's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Further to what sas said - I have seen the vibrate function really scare the crap out of dogs too. And the low level stims they hardly feel. You could condition a stim to a reward so that the dog comes running to you and giving you attention when it feels it. It could have a positive value very similar to what a clicker does when conditioned. You could even use it the exact same way. Every other trainer I have spoken to who uses e-collars has felt the stims on themselves. I always test tools on my own skin before using it on dogs, including on my neck. My e-collar has actually been used on more people than it has on dogs. -
Vibrating Collar Or E-collar For Deaf Dog
Lollipup replied to superminty's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My e-collar has 127 levels of stim (it's dogtra, they are a good brand as are sportdog). It also has a vibration/pager function. Most people I know can't feel the stim until it gets to about level 10 and it's very faint. I wouldn't have a problem with using one on a deaf dog (or any dog). Rosetta, the stims are so low - you really need to feel it before you judge it. Think of it as a communication tool. Like tapping someone on the shoulder to get their attention. -
I think I should make you wait haha :p The mating is being done this week so I want to make sure she is confirmed in whelp before I say much. How long does it usually take before they can confirm by ultrasound? Anyone know? I already was promised a puppy from someone else and that fell through and I was But now I feel like it was a blessing in disguise because I'm really happy with this mating I'm down for now. But nothing is set in stone yet so I'm nervous!

Hmmm.... I suppose I should join this thread soon :D I am caught between major puppy excitement and not wanting to say too much because the pup doesn't exist yet. So for now I will say I am expecting a puppy this year and I'm very excited! (And a bit scared)

Best Frisbee Discs For Dogs
Lollipup replied to mememouse's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Tassie - is there much difference between the Flippy Flopper and Soft bite? I'm looking at both online, they look similar but fairly big price difference. -
Thanks for sharing his story Vi. What an amazing dog Charlie was. He won't be forgotten.

Goodbye My Precious Brianna, 26 March 2004 - 17 February 2013
Lollipup replied to MelodysMum's topic in Rainbow Bridge
Sorry for your loss. That was a beautfitul heatfelt tribute and it brought tears to my eyes too. Sounds like Brianna was a very special and much loved girl. Your description of her reminded me of some things my girl Lola does too. She is a cocker cross. -
Was shocked to wake up to this news this morning. I'm so sorry Vi. You and Charlie were an inspiration. Although I never met Charlie (or you yet) I feel like I knew him because he was so much larger than life when you spoke about him. It's so clear that you loved him so much. RIP Charlie. We will miss you. ETA: That's a very beautiful photo to remember him by

My border collie does this. He has free choice to come inside or under the patio and he stands in the rain looking pathetic and miserable as if it's the worst day of his life and he has no choice. But he is dry underneath the outer coat
