That's true. But teaching children how to act or react around dogs should start at home. I've taught my son that he can take our puppy's food away and put his hand into her food bowl while she's eating. By doing this while she's a puppy, by the time she's an adult, she won't snap at him if he approaches her eating. Luckily, I have a very timid son, he doesn't like most dogs. Yes I agree Staffygirl teaching should always start at home especially for those who have dogs already, but all kids also without a dog need to know for when visiting someone with dogs or at the park etc.. I just think it always is put on the dog training and owners but I think kids need some education.

I think the media perpetuates what the media has been doing so for years, they create a misconception of certain breeds by not publishing every single dog attack (why would they?). If anything it creates more problems for owners of the breeds incessantly mentioned and leaves more dogs homeless. I believe most of these dogs demoralised can be perfectly loving animals who, if they are trained correctly can be enjoyed by everyone. Seeing as majority of these bites are to children, maybe schools need to get involved in awareness and what children should do around dogs. Maybe start there. If it’s already happening then great (I don’t have kids I don’t know). I think all the solutions provided are based around the dogs but what about children? I am merely stating maybe it needs to go both ways. I am not saying any child deserves to be bitten. So please let me make that clear. Anyway - an interesting read Media & BSL

Does anyone know what happens to people who commit animal cruelty? Such as name and shamed or can they just get another pet later and possibly do the same thing again? Suppose they can just go to another pet shop or BYB and get one but certainly you wouldn't want them near another animal ever again. IMO should be locked up forever throw away the key but the legal system just isn't sufficient

What pigs, absolutely shameful, you would hope they really cop a heavy penalty for this and to all involved. :D I am glad the police actually caught them and decent people reported the abuse. At least pup is healing up and will hopefully go to a very nice LOVING home.

Petshops Hit Back At Calls To Ban Sales Of Pups And Kittens
Adza replied to toy dog's topic in General Dog Discussion
It just has to be stopped..regardless The amount of times I watched them tell potential buyers they are from a great breeders and had long outdoor time etc.. sorry don't really believe they are practicing that 'code' -
I think I read somewhere if they hiccup and regurgitate then should check it out. My last dog Tess had pancreatitis but never had hiccups, vets never mentioned it being a sign or symptom of it?

Tahli was an early riser few weeks ago, even 4am sometimes and wouldn't settle, then went to 5am then 5.30 (when I get up) now after I take her out in the morning she wants to go back to sleep till 6.30 I didn't really do anything so I hope she doesn't go back to the early times! I find darkness helps though

Obedience Training - Shire/st George/inner West Sydney
Adza replied to Adza's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I've always been interested in competition obedience, but either way I am not sure what is involved would they accept pups? Otherwise, just basic obedience will be fine for now. -
Hi All Just curious if anyone can tell me close to these areas where a good obedience group class is? I've seen a few online (some haven't responded to my queries) but I'd prefer to go off word of mouth anyway. I cannot find that many online so interested if I have missed any places. Even though she is still under 5 months, I'd like to start planning where to take her shortly. I would really like to get involved in activities on the weekends etc eventually also, so I would appreciate any help. I am in Revesby Heights if that helps.

What Could This Small Lump Be On My Dogs Head?
Adza replied to BMAK's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sorry, going to have to go to the vet. You just never know, sometimes I have gone and they just said it's fatty tissue or whatever but i'd rather know for certain. Otherwise post up a pic if you can maybe someone can decipher what it could be. You can tell the vet of what situation your in before doing anything surely they can understand or just give them a call, but like anything you will need to take him. Good luck -
Tahli bites when she is too excited and I walk away and ignore then after some time she comes to me calm and go from there. She only does it to my hands, not anywhere else. Then I will spend time trying to put my hands in front of her and move them around to see if she does anything, if she doesn't I praise and give her a treat. She is getting the point now. I let it go on for some time and it got worse, now I am spending more time focusing on that, I don't think it's an instant fix you have to be persistant. I'm no trainer though, just doing what seems to work for me. Good luck with everything

I am so glad his been found!!! what wonderful news!! Made my day it has Hope he recovers soon from the bite wounds Thank you Katdogs for giving us the warning on the dalmatian guy -
Well I thought that would have been a horror story but in actual fact yes some people can just be bizarre
-
hmmm chained up hey..and especially around food = not good. Don't agree with chaining up dogs at all. Least the kid is recovering O.K but will prob have a huge fear of dogs now which is unfortunate.

Persephone, thanks for the link very useful. Has anyone tried this which is the useful tips for natural tick control I read on the site provided.. # Apply Tick Stop into drinking water daily from Aug-March to develop resistance. 1 bottle of Tick Stop will be sufficient for the whole season for all your animals in the household if they share their drinking water. # Feeding supplements such as garlic, Flea Free liquid daily (blend of vinegar, garlic and citrus herbs) will absorb to the blood stream and repel parasites. wondering if there is a chance it would work?

Missing Sheltie - Roselands-riverwood - Found!
Adza replied to Katdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I haven't seen him looked around peakhurst, beverly hills and riverwood up to my place in Revesby heights. Can you explain what happened with this dalmatian guy? -
Yep, I would have thought they would react and behave like that once this got through. What AH's. How do these people become rangers anyway? I would love to know what it takes. I am not saying all rangers are this way but I think thats just their growing ego's due to the unfair authority given and they know it. So many dogs will be PTS (and who knows possibly abused going by the way they carried on - sorry I just wonder sometimes) but I think it will blow up in the future. I'd be going to ACA, TT, general media about this. Then again, it's hearsay in the laws eyes.

I'd rather see no dogs in the window to be impulse bought. I agree, No dogs in windows. They shouldn't be in view like that all boxed up in a window with people tapping all over it. It makes me sick to my stomach walking past in the malls. They should not be in malls period. If you want a dog you got to do the research and go out there to the pound or a registered breeder.

Interesting, never would have thought fleas would become immune to a product. Not sure if in a high Tick area but of course you don't want to risk it. Some of the vets in my area aren't too helpful with this. Wish they would all just become extinct!
-
Thanks I heard Advantix is pretty good. Even though she's on Revolution, I still see fleas around and it's starting to annoy me. What's worse we have a 6 month pack which I prob wont use now Just get confused using 2 different products and whats used for what. I know the vet should tell me but I'd rather find out from people what really works.
-
Hi All, I have posted on another topic regarding Ticks, as now I have checked revolution doesn't prevent Ticks (I think only American Ticks was what I read). We get the spot on and then a tablet for the other worm prevention not in revolution. So has anyone been in this boat? Did you change products? Partner is off to the vet tonight, but surprised they didn't give us something with Tick prevention. I am now thinking Frontline is the best option?

Tick Treatment , What Do U Reccomend?
Adza replied to springdog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have been reading up on them and looking at the pictures and all but how big are they? I know might be hard to explain but I have never seen a tick in my life so I don't know what to expect. I do checks everyday but worried I might miss it.
