I'd like to add my experience, I remember as a kid, probably 5-6 years old, I was at a dog training session with my parents, and stupidly parents were told by the trainer his dog is very calm and I can go up to it. A German Shepherd. So I did, and I must of scared him or something, and got bitten on the nose (he was tied up). No damage just punctures. Everyone went mental and the trainer went and bashed his dog, probably almost to death (so my father says). I feel terrible because thinking back I may have scared the dog in some way without completely remembering and have no blame to the dog. I am sure the owner PTS after that, but I don't think it deserved that. I just think kids should be carefully supervised near dogs or at least taught to not run up to dogs with sudden movements as well, unless growing up with the dog is usually different. I know I wouldn't want my kids just going up to any dog and not knowing if the dogs are fearful or protective or hurt them in some way and they turn. That's just me. I'm not condoning attacks but I think should be both ways. That to say, I don't know how it feels to have a dog thats potentially aggressive towards others. I would seek dog behaviourist first.

WOW thats amazing, never seen that before. Very special it seems

Just a quick update, Tahli's legs last night were amazingly straight again! looked so much better and stronger, the right still got a big wobbly but couldn't believe the difference. I assume she is starting to grow out of it or it might just come and go. Going to get this Joint Guard asap. I'll feel better taking her to puppy school now, don't want the weird looks.

Very hard when you cant tell they are looking for a spot to pee. Tahli for her age is well toilet trained, still will get little accidents here and there but she goes outside on her own now, or if not we got some toilet training pads near the door if she might not make it and she will do it there. Good luck with it all

I Want To Do What Is Best For My Puppy - Am I Leaving Him Alone Too Mu
Adza replied to Rosalie's topic in Puppy Chat
You poor thing. I don't think I could personally do that and can understand why you feel terrible about it. Is anyone home during the day? Otherwise, doggy day care seems a good idea, but depends if you think thats enough? Or, what aussielover suggested, get a crate and have her in there while on the computer or having dinner etc so he isn't in the laundy all day. Also see if you can put up a dog/puppy fence outside to section off an area for her to explore and get some fresh air! Hope it works out for you -
Ouch doesn't look good! poor baby Sorry can't see photos at work for some reason

Yes it's very hard not knowing especially when you love them so much, completely understand, my other dogs had some lumps removed but were all ok. Where was the lump? Try to be positive and hope all is well. Stitch is in my thoughts xox

Haven't been able to socialise mine since adopted due to Kennel Cough, but I would go to a dog park/puppy school if I want the dog to socialise. Simple.

With regards to first question, Tahli never cries if we are upstairs or away from her at any time, I suppose that she got used to it from being at rspca, and used to being left alone. So, don't have any tips there sorry. With toys, I got her a few squeaky's, tug with ball on the end, rubber bone for teething (though not interested in it at all), tied some long socks together in a few knots (absolutely loves it!!), toilet paper cardboard rolls, a milk carton and it all does her just fine, she goes crazy with them all! And she likes to sneak off with my slippers. I still need to get a kong and whatever else looks good. About to check some things online as reviewed by other posters on other threads, so many toys out there, I want some more that will keep her busy for long periods.

My pup just got over KC. She seems fine now, no coughing or anything and antibiotics finished but unsure how long to wait till she can socialise again, really don't want to spread it.

Yes, Tahli only does the silent deadly ones when sleeping. Must be a relaxed thing. Never smelt or heard anything while she's awake.

Going through the exact same thing, mine has hit 10 weeks. She is some days really good with me and only does it very gently or licks, unlike yesterday (was it the rain or something?) went nuts last night. If she gets a good grab on me, I put two fingers in each side of the mouth and she automatically releases. I always try to distract with another toy or those pup chew things shaped like a bone (not sure of the name of it) No matter how much I try to say a hard "NO" or do the "OUCH" thing like people have said, she must still think I'm playing and gets even more aggressive. Will see how I go tonight, but she also goes for the pants and shoes too. Anyone ever used a water bottle and sprayed? Heard that works sometimes.

Opinion Piece In Sydney Morning Herald - Puppy Farms
Adza replied to Curlybert's topic in In The News
Well, watching a special episode on DW, he looked at puppy mills in the US and it wasn't a pretty episode, really opened my eyes. So it seems this is a world wide issue, and there are organisations like RSPCA in the US who cannot close them down either, even though they are in bad conditions they still met their regulations (how I don't know). There has to be more to it, I wouldn't say RSPCA aren't trying... To think these people can breed these dogs like mad in really bad conditions get away with it, to me animals are so lovable and somewhat like children, what if they had human mills? oh no the politicians would kick up a fuss wouldn't they? -
Hey, good on you for rescuing the pup. I have a kelpie X female, gorgeous girl now 10 months. We have been worried about limping, seemed to go from paw to paw, for quite a few months. Went to RSPCA vet, and he said due to poor nutrition in the womb, her joints aren't great. She didn't improve just on the good dry food for puppy's, but after taking JOINT GUARD on her food we saw an improvement after about 4 weeks! Got the advice off DOL. I also limit her time with rough play, not going to her favourite dog park but, she still has fun meeting other dogs along our walks. GOOD LUCK! Hi Sallyandtex, Where did you get joint guard? is it safe for a 10 week old? (sorry such a worry wart ) The vet said it's going to get worse before gets better and look bad, but will get there in a few months. Tried to limit her exercise today, but she loves to run it's hard to stop but day by day will be patient. I also try to give them a little massage when resting on my lap. It's hard watching her walk like that

So sorry to hear, very sad

good news, 2 vets had a look at her today, one being an ortho specialist and said that they have both seen it plenty of times in pups at this stage, most likely more than other vets seeing the amount of dogs that come into rspca. She should grow out of it in 3 months or less once the body catches up with the growth. It's that the ligaments are weak to support the body and is due to diet once being born and not being with the mother for long can cause this problem, also the bone does seem as though its grown fast. They said can do xray but will show the same thing. I am just relieved they have seen this before and nothing to worry about. Only said if she was in pain it would be a more serious problem. Have to limit her exercise and just keep an eye on them. The diet she is on now is fine ;) I am the happiest woman alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't get to see rspca today, they were booked out. The lady was really good asked a lot of questions and indicated it could be due to not being fed correctly when growing up can cause abnormalities in the legs but they grow out of it. She asked if she's in a bad state as in pain or not eating or any signs of discomfort and I said no she's been running around a bit and seems happy to me, still has appetite etc. Made the appointment for tomorrow morning. My partner said her legs were good this morning and hardly noticeable, until she got a bit active they played up again. Trying to keep her calm, and getting sleep often and trying not to let her run around...hard when in a playful mood!

Thanks Diva, just taken aback by it as was totally unexpected I hope the lady had no idea making me feel it's the worst case scenario without taking xrays or anything. Will keep updated once I find out tomorrow. She is going to get major cuddles tonight

Hi All, I am very new here considering my pup has only been with us for 4 days now. We rescued the rottie x from rspca and brought her home Tuesday. I am completely in love with her and despite having kennel cough I thought that would be the only problem for now. Tahli is over 9 weeks now, don't know her background only that her and 3 others were surrendered after 4 weeks or so. Well today my partner and I noticed when sitting down, her front legs shake a bit. After that her paws seem pretty weak while walking. She isn't in pain and I checked her legs and paws for any signs of injury but she didn't seem to bothered. She still runs around a bit like pups do and plays with her toys and seems all too happy and not bothering her. A friend came over for the first time to see her and by the way she was saying what could be wrong freaked me out even more so I rang a 24 hr emergency vet and said to bring her in that's ok. Got there, filled out a form and told me even though it's not an emergency I'd have to pay $195 which I'm fine with money is no issue to me when it comes to my family. One lady came out and said I'll take a quick look at her and said it's abnormal. She said to book a consultation with a specialist and go from there. I don't know what to think she didn't give me any indication what it is. After speaking to some people suggested I take her back to rspca and see what they say. I am staying positive and will do anything for Tahli if it means this doesn't affect her quality of life. I just cannot sleep thinking about this.. but I have been reading as much as I can about weak paws and tremors and majority say it's pano. If that's what it is, I'd rather that than put her through surgery. I was just thinking it's like a growth spurt or something, now not so sure. So tomorrow morning first thing I will go to the vet there to see what they say. I'm doing well not to get upset in front of her but can't help to cry on my own. Has anyone got any stories like this or how you got through it?
