  1. No Jed not for a moment infact thank you... This is what i was trying to invoke and see what all breeders realy think!! Thank you for you honesty.
  2. Why do you think its a good thing? Personally i think its a good thing because it will help weed out the breeders whom do not meet the standards and the mills and also for the puppy purchaser. The buyer can look see that there are lets say 100 breeders listed and only 5 accredited breeders listed who are you going to spend your $1500 with. I think im going for the accredited breeder everytime.
  3. Taken from Dogs Qld Breeder Accreditation The Facts. HERE Maybe the Breeders don't feel the need to pay the fee to "prove" what they are already doing. I don't how you can call it going out of their way to comply IF they are already conforming with and surpassing what is already in place. Just a thought. When i say out of their way i mean pay more fees and the system also mentions mentors whom have to travel to other breeders and check on their kennels. Wouldnt you call this an extra activity for a breeder whom normally would be concerned with their own kennel, shows ect. I would call that going out of their way. They dont get paid for their service.
  4. Ive owned Bullmastiffs for 15 years. For the past few years i have been working, planning towards breeding and now this new system is in place. Personally i think its a good thing but i cant help wondering why with my chosen breed the Bullmastiff there is but 1 Qld Breeder who has gone out of their way to comply to the new regulations and be willing to do their part for the Bullmastiff breed. Why is it other breeders have not got on board with this system? Is it wrong or am i missing something???
  5. Yes i found out Wednesday when my vet emailed me passing on the news and he has passed my x-rays for 2 dogs on to the AVA Vets to have them scored. Best wishes to Dr Wyburn and hope he has a speedy recovery. From Swanbrook Bullmastiffs.
  6. Royal Cannin dry food. Does a wonderful job and yes hot spots are a fungus and we believe preventing hot spots by adding a can of tuna in tuna oil once or twice a week to our bullmastiffs diet. The omega 3 and the oil help promote good skin and coat along with regular brushing to bring oil out in coat. Also dont go over board with baths.Let the dogs natural oils in the coat do their job protecting the skin. Healthy skin and coat= no fungus,no hot spots. Prevention is better than cure. Try it you may be pleasantly surprised.
  7. Thanks Crisovar. I consider them basic tests - hip, elbow, eyes. The breeders I have spoken to, all the active breeders I can find in Aus/NZ (bar one), do none of these tests. And yes, this is a breed with know genetic issues and international breeders routinely test for a few more things also, including heart. One of the reasons I have been given for not testing is that the dogs bred in previous litters do not have any issues. This is a newish breed in Aus, so the history of it in this country is not a long one. ill remove my comment then...too old.
  8. Hello everyone, My friends call me BigW and i own Swanbrook Bullmastiffs in Jimboomba Qld. I have been involved with this Breed for well over 15 years. My first was Shandonita Stormy Legend a wonderful BIG Brindle boy bred by a lovely lady named Ms PJ McCabe. Stormy won me over to this noble breed and served me as a companion for 12 years. Unfortunately taken by Cancer. After the longest time missing my dog i got hooked on bloodlines. I was determine to find my old dog. Well not quite my dog but as close as i could find. The result after much talking to every breeder on the planet i found a puppy through Saturnbrook Bullmastiffs. This puppy and my old mate share the same Grandfather Ch.Graecia Pryderi. Now my little puppy is almost 3 and he is my old mate in every way except for 1. This boy that i named MYSTRO wich is Stormy jumbled up is a clear Fawn Dog with black mask. He looks like stormy's ghost. Now i have a beautiful female from Ironline Bullmastiffs and Swanbrook Bullmastiffs is born. Now i will never be without a Bullmastiff in my life again. Bullmastiffs make the world a much better place!
  9. Hello everyone, I think all here are well informed about both breeds. Personally i have owned both for many years. My last Rotty pair lived till (Male 12) Female(14) and both eventually left with Cancer. My current Pair are both Beautiful Fawn, black masked Bullmastiffs from exceptional bloodlines as my rotties were. I shifted to the Bullmastiff due to while i owned my rotties i rescued a Big male Bullmastiff brindle and yes very similar but very very different. The Bullmastiff doesn't react like the rotties when alarmed. The rotties were very on the job, athletic matter of fact. Would make a much bigger display if threatened than the Bullmastiff. The bullmastiff is a very casual dog. Sure there big and you wouldnt want to wrestle with one but not much winds them up and much harder to read for aggression than the Rottie. They work well together as the Rottie would always arrive on the job first EVERY TIME but the Bullmastiff just seems to know Fact from Fiction. If there is a real threat the mastiff was there and Easily finds their way to the front where the Rottie would give the Bullmastiff the front seat and the rottie would flank. Both Exceptional dogs to watch working. As for a family dog? Like i said i have Bullmastiffs now and still have a sweet spot for the Rottie but my family comprises of 3 Bullmastiff. Our babies.
