Where's The Best Place To Get Clippers Repaired?
brittanygirl replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Send them to Clipperworld. They are in Melbourne, but they are fantastic. They have had my Oster clippers several times and always come back working great, and send them quickly too. They have an add in the marketplace section. -
Litter Registration - Dogs Victoria
brittanygirl replied to Purple Diamond's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have used the same day service on each of my litters as I dont know which puppys will be main register and which limit until 8 weeks so registration isn't done until then. It is a one off fee for the service only not per puppy. Just write same day service on the envelope. -
You can buy a beautifully bred show quality chocolate in Victoria for $1200. $1800 seems very expensive for a pet. There are a lot of great breeders who breed all colours, and I would buy from them first. The breeder I have my choc lab from has all 3 colours and chocs are no more expensive than her blacks and yellows.

I would like to order 3 medium please. My kids will love them.

Bailey is gorgeous. What age is he. I have an 8 month old liver girl, they are full of bounce at that age.

I have only had three litters. The first litter I was over anxious and helped with the first 2 puppies then mother did the remaining 5 by herself. Second litter same bitch did all herself with me watching and checking puppies once she had finished cleaning them. Third litter was her daughter and she also needed no help. I had had an xray done for her and was told 7-8 puppies so once number 8 came left her alone for a little while. Came back to take them to vet for checkup to find 2 more puppies. Last time I will be relying on xray for numbers. In future I will do as little as possible.

I agree with the others that the malt - shih x can be a great little dog. I lost my beautiful boy Rory several months ago at 10. He was an impulse pet shop puppy buy and cost me a small fortune over the years in vet bills, but had a fantastic temperament and was gorgeous to boot. He was a smart little dog and did very well at obedience, progressing through to trialling.

My Shih tzu X did both his cruciates within 2 weeks of each other. He coped well with the first surgury, but the second was a real struggle for him, with a very long recovery time. 3 years later he is on pain medication every day for his knees and a short walk around the block is as far as he can go. He was 7 when this happened, so I don't know whether that contributed to the recovery. Both surgurys together cost $2300. Good luck with Gertie.

I'm not sure where in Geelong you are, but Bellarine Animal Hospital in Newcomb are a great clinic. -

Cruciate Ligament Damage
brittanygirl replied to Runter'n'Puby's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Crutiate damage doen't just happen on large dogs. My 10 kg shih tzu X had both his repaired last December. He tore his very noticeably. The first he tore on a walk at the park, one minute running towards me, the next collapsed on the ground. The second happened on the way to the vet for a 1 week check up after his first surgery, he tore it while walking slowly to the car. -
Do You Clip Your Own Doggie?
brittanygirl replied to Becky in Oz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I used to send my shih tzu X to the groomers every 4 weeks for a trim, but when I bought my first brittany to show, i had to buy the grooming equipment for her, so decided to give him a go as well. It has saved me $35 every month, and I have gotten good at it over time. He usually looks very cute and I enjoy it. The bonus of having had him professionally groomed for the first several years was that he was perfectly trained already when I started, which made my job very easy. -
My dogs are Jalna dogs too. They go nuts over the custard flavoured one.

When Will He Stop Squatting
brittanygirl replied to spoilt lab lives here's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My mother caught my 13 week old boy lifting his leg, I told her she must have imagined it until I saw him do it a week later. That is the youngest I have had. -
Nurofen is not safe to be given to dogs. My girl Morgan found some Nurofen in my handbag when she was a young puppy. After a quick call to the vets to see if it was dangerous she was rushed to the vets and given some kind of crystals to induce vomiting. She was called the Nurofen puppy at the vets for the next few months.

Condolances to you and your mum and dad. He died after living the life every brittany should have. He is now hunting in the great quail run in the sky. RIP Britt. Jenny

It is nice too know that dogs will recover almost full mobility after the surgery. My boy Rory wasn't much of a jumper before the operations, so don't think that will change too much.
-
Seems like it is a common problem. My shih-tzu X tore his right cruciate 4 weeks ago and his left 2 weeks later. My poor boy can hardly walk, and has lots more bad days than good days at the moment. I am just starting his post operative exercise which is a real struggle for him. If someone has a recovered dog, can you tell me if he will eventually become almost back to normal. I hate to see him in pain like he is now, and would like to know that the operations were worth it.

My vet has told me that marrow bones are only bad for dogs if they are cut in half the wrong way. If you cut them length ways then the dog can get all the marrow out, which is too much for them. As long as you cut them in half the short way, they are fine.
