Ooh, I saw that. Didn't realise it had already disappeared

I guess it would be safe to say I won't be getting a poodle anytime soon!! My thoughts exactly!!! (Not that I ever would anyway.... )

I'm trying to find one too, but sadly I don't think I can find one suitable for Kyojin, that I can stop the cats from using. One of those magnetic collar ones might work, but I'm not too sure. Our crappy fly screen laundry door is broken anyway, so we're looking at replacing the door so I figured I may as well try and get a doggy door for KJ.

That thread has certainly shown me who I wouldn't buy from!

It's Duffield Road/Snook St

I like them too. Sometimes I miss these threads until KTB points them out The puppy enquiry thread is annoying me too. There's just no winning that argument. Breeders want puppy buyers to ask questions. Puppy buyers ask questions, but they're not the right ones. Or there's too many of them. Or the breeder's 80 years old and hates email, but has an email address listed. And so on and so on. I found "puppy hunting" to be a fairly frustrating process but I'm soo glad that we love Kyojin and his breeder so much, that we'll go straight to him next time we want a pup. :vomit: For real?!?! People continue to surprise me. Just when you think you've heard it all....

I've been thinking about getting one for Kyojin, but I'm not sure whether he'd like it. I'm sure my cats would at least.

Thanks for those responses. They've given me lots of ideas to think about!

Those of you who feed raw, do you find it's cheaper than kibble anyway?? It seems like it would be, but I'm not sure. Once I can afford to buy a bar freezer I'd like to start giving Kyojin raw one meal a day to see how he goes on it. Surely it can't be any more expensive than ProPlan..

I'm quite okay with admitting I humanise my pets in some way. No, I don't dress them up when they go out in public or anything like that. But I'm quite happy calling them "the kids" - though I only say this to my OH or to my mum, as I always tease her about that up until just a week ago, her only grandkids were my three ferals. And it's mostly because OH and I cringe at the thought of actual kids anytime soon as having pets is challenging enough. I do talk to them too which sometimes might be a bit ridiculous, but again, I'd never do this in public

Wow, that's definitely one big sooky lala! What an irresistible face

Oh dear doG KTB! That rescue thread...wow. I tend to stay out of most of the threads in General. Too many other posters ready to attack! Promise we'll get photos if we do all go for a walk. I'm sure all of us would look hilarious walking together

Kyojin was about 12 weeks old or so. He was meant to have been bought by someone else, but they pulled out, hence why we didn't get him at 8 weeks. Otherwise that's when we would have had him flown over.

We are definitely up for play or walking Lovely photo Sammie. I've been dying to meet a Frenchie I like to stalk the Frenchie thread

That sounds good. I get nervous at the thought of taking Kyojin out by myself

Thanks Dandy

I've requested the day off work for it But, I have no idea what OH's roster is like for that day, so I have no idea whether we're going or not. Fingers crossed we can make it.

Back to my earlier post - does it actually worry you that people think he's a bitch? He's got a pretty face so I'd probably think he was a girl as well if I came across him in the street and I'd ask if I could give 'her' a pat I wouldn't say it upsets me as such if someone just happens to automatically call him a girl as I know that sometimes when you first meet a dog it isn't always obvious, though it does annoy me slightly when I correct someone and they continue to call him a girl, repeatedly. There have been a few occasions where I've been talking to people about him and they'll ask questions about him so I'll respond in such a way that states his gender "He's 6 months old" "Thanks, we really like him too." etc. etc and they'll continue to respond by calling him female.

I dunno, everyone thinks Angel's a boy if she's not wearing a girly collar! Yeah, a certain coloured collar may not help the gender ID situation. Everyone assumes Tonka is a girl at first because he is pretty Angel must be pretty too!! I specifically only put Kyojin in blue collars/leads yet everyone still calls him a girl. Um hello, you can see his bits from a mile away! When we bought him one of those poo bag holder thingies we could only get a hot pink one, so I always hide it in my handbag and use them as discreetly as possible

Just had a similar thing happen last night. Went over to a friends for dinner - we've only seen this couple maybe once/twice in the last year, and they had just bought their first house 2 weeks ago. They said to bring our pup as they know we don't leave him outside after dark as we get multiple cane toads every single night, and we feel terrible if we have to crate him. They have a dog too, so they thought the boys would play. Well, we get there and their dog HATES Kyojin and lunges at him, snarling, snapping, trying to bite him. He spends the ENTIRE evening barking and growling and trying to find Kyojin to attack him. It was very uncomfortable. We had to leave Kyojin outside for a few hours, with their dog inside. Eventually they sent theirs out and put Kyojin back in as they felt guilty that their dog was being a pain and Kyojin wasn't reacting whatsoever. His barking was so bad that we had the three houses immediately across from them come out to see what was going on. One of them was even shining a torch on us for ages to check things out! They said they wanted to bring their dog to ours next time to see if theirs would behave better outside of his own territory. Very awkward indeed!

Awww. I have such a weakness for Rotties after growing up with them. My parents still have a beautiful girl with them. Emma's gorgeous, and what a great name

Kyojin won't try and steal our food, but he will try and get in our personal space so we say "back" and make him take a big step back and sit nicely. We almost never give scraps. He is allowed pizza crust on occasion as pizza is his most favourite food ever (much to the horror of every pizza boy that comes to our house). Other than that, he can be about a metre away but he won't be getting anything unless he works for it.

Haha, yea Oscar and Kyojin LOVE each other. Which is weird, because most people will say that Akitas and cats don't mix. My breeder wants me to send him all these photos of the two of them together for his website. It's funny actually, if I just put Kyojin out into the yard in the morning to pee when he wakes me up, Oscar cries until he comes back inside. Normally the first thing Kyojin will do is nom on Oscar's head, so Oscar gets really upset if that doesn't happen!!!! Our other cat on the other hand still hisses at Kyojin if he comes to close and hides from him. She's terrified of everything though. Kyojin's nearly 7 months. You can't see how big he is in those photos though! It's really only when we see him in comparison to bits of furniture that you can see him growing. Every so often OH or I will go "Holy hell, did you realise Kyojin's head can reach x ?!" He's about 68cm at the withers now and about 33kg. Still got a fair bit to go though!! Kyojin drinks soooo much. There's not too many days where he has to be in the yard for 8 hours or so, but I always make sure his clam shell has clean water in it too as he seems to usually go there first for water. Eventually we'll get an automatic waterer like Kuma's. My olds have one too, but there's is like 20 years old and keeps growing moss.

Is It Just Me, Or Do Some People Just Don't Get It ?
minxy replied to BMAK's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Exactly what Staranais said. I wouldn't continue going there. -
And here I thought you were supposed to teach dogs that children are a good thing, and encourage positive interactions with them... I fail to see how mistreating your dog every time it goes near anything remotely relating to the child is going to teach the dog that the child has any value. Not only does the "correction" method sound horrible, I really can't see it doing anything more than making the dog resent the child.
