  1. Good luck for the weekend Wuffles! I hope you have an amazing day and that it doesn't go too quickly for you. Lovely photo KTB. My apologies to everyone, I have been reading at work so by the time I'm finally posting now, I've forgotten everything that's been said Thought I'd share a photo of my boy from the weekend at Woofstock GoldenGirl85's Lexi is behind him You can't really see while he's lying down, but that Malamute is the BIGGEST Mal I have ever seen. It was ginormous!
  2. I forgot my camera, so only took a couple of quick photos while we were watching the doggy talent show.
  3. Glad you managed to do it Lena! Giving my cats tablets is an absolute nightmare, so I know what a struggle it can be! Mika particularly has lightning tongue reflexes. Giving Kyojin tablets/a syringe so far has been super easy as he thinks everything's food
  4. We did. We knew we wanted a male pup, and since Akitas are such a large breed, we wanted a name that meant "big", and we wanted it to be Japanese. Hence we called him Kyojin which means colossal or giant.
  5. Welcome Fenstar! Newcomers are always welcome here. Especially when there's the promise of puppy photos
  6. Wow, that little guy is just the cutest!!! I really hope he finds himself a lovely family. What was the borders thread KTB?
  7. Whenever we go to the hydrobath/pet barn to buy kibble I always come home with a pig ear or two as a treat for Kyojin. He loves them, and we've never had any problems (with any of our dogs)
  8. I'm pretty sure that the one Huski mentioned is the one my obedience trainers rave about
  9. Wow Wuffles, Ava's heelwork is very impressive
  10. Speaking of heelwork, the military police dogs heelwork is just AMAZING! OH is determined to get Kyojin to heel as nicely as they do
  11. No idea, but it looks like last years wasn't until much, much later in the year. Could be a while off yet.
  12. We train inside the house, in the backyard, at our club and occasionally at parks and when we're out and about.
  13. Georgeous photo of Ava. I got to pat my first Aussie yesterday (A DOLers - LuvLottie). She had such a beautifully soft coat. I'd love to come and pat Ava
  14. James, Kyojin and I should be there too
  15. So pleased to hear that your little girl is on the mend!
  16. I would be upset that they just handed the pup over to you. I had to show ID and sign a form when I picked Kyojin up from the airport, and my breeder had advised me of this beforehand. The patting wouldn't have bothered me. When the big roller doors opened at the airport, there were 4 staff members standing around Kyojin's crate giving him pats. We laughed because they were like Oh, busted cuddling the puppy on the job It never occurred to me at the time to think about germs etc. I probably still wouldn't mind as I'd rather my pup was receiving reassurance.
  17. We went to Woofstock yesterday. It was actually pretty disappointing. There were only about 10 stalls there, and a few of them weren't actually really selling anything. One stall was plaques and urns for preserving the memory of your lost pet, which was lovely, but I don't think I saw anyone visiting their stall as it really wasn't going to be a lot of interest to many people that were there. Oh and the heat! Talk about a scorcher yesterday. I was starting to get a bit hot and bothered, so was getting a bit sick of everyone going "Oh my gosh, what sort of dog is that? Is that a snow dog? Is that a St Bernard?" Yes, I really did get asked if Kyojin was a St Bernard (That was from a child though, and we thought it was super cute and funny) The RAAF military police dog demonstration was pretty awesome! Those are some majorly obedient dogs. I also got to meet quite a few Brisbane DOLers which was pretty awesome. Raven: Kyojin didn't lick/scratch too much most of the time, but he did have a couple of moments where it was obviously unbearably itchy and he was just freaking out over it. One night OH and I were lying in bed watching tv and Kyojin was standing next to us. He was trying to itch at himself furiously and was just spinning around in circles sooking. Next thing I know, he launched himself up onto the bed and jumped into our arms for a reassuring cuddle!! He's never tried to get onto the bed before, so we were just laughing our heads off at the poor thing. All he needed was a big hug from mum and dad and then he was good again. We gave him special permission to be on the bed with us that night. Luckily he left after about 10 minutes Kyojin's name is Japanese, it means giant or colossal. Hopefully he will live up to his name
  18. I'm assuming that's the length of it? If so, it's probably 83cm tall and 74cm wide as that's what mine is (122cm length)
  19. Ah yup, that is. Mine was a wire one though, but from the same place. Their soft crates are such a good price
  20. If you can't find one second hand, I got my XXXL from www.topbuy.com.au Paid about $80 for the crate and $20 postage to where I am for it. (It was on sale though, I think that crate is about $100 normally) That's up to a third of the price of pet stores here
  21. Just a reminder that I will probably be inside the gates at 10.30. If I can leave and come back in, I'll come out to meet you. But otherwise don't wait outside for me, I'll just meet you when you come through the gates.
  22. I'm super excited too. Really hoping I can find you guys!! Don't mind my smelly boy. He only got his stitches out after desexing yesterday, so we haven't given him a wash in a while. OH wasn't too keen at my suggestion of washing him before we leave tomorrow
  23. Puppy definitely. For me, getting a large breed dog at around 13 weeks old, I had missed out on a fair bit. I never saw him cute and small. He was already bigger than a lot of fully grown adult dogs when he came to me, and my last puppy before that was 7 years ago.
  24. My parents and I always feed a good quality kibble to our pets. Almost all of my friends and their families feed them supermarket pet food. None of them have ever had any particular health issues.
  25. Is that part of the park fully fenced, do you know K&P?
