Hey all I want to buy Kyojin a leather leash and collar set in the next couple of months. I had been leaning toward the K9 Pro ones, but I really like the look of a particular Dean & Tyler collar that has padding on the inside to stop the rubbing on his hair etc. Does anyone have any experiences with Dean & Tyler leather products that can comment on the quality of them for me??

Well the forest is less than 10 mins drive from the Hyperdome. But yes it is about 2 exits before the Hyperdome exit heading from the city. well Its Daisy Hill Logan area near the hyperdome. And will look at going about 230/3ish again I might come if I feel up to it after my drive home no location decided yet for the April meet? Awesome. You have my # so let me know Nope not yet. I am not fussed either way. I just know there was at least 1 DOLer who was from out west who wanted to make a meet so thought we could do something out that way. Otherwise there is that park just recently done up in Logan Central that we could try out. I posted a link to a news story about it prior to that March meet when I was trying to find somewhere good. That might be ok for Westsiders??? ETA: here is the link http://www.thereporter.com.au/story/2011/0...a-dogs-day-out/ I don't think you'll want to go to that one (at least not at the usual meet times). That is the new location for the Husky and Malamute meet ups that used to go on every Sunday arvo at Oxley park. They've now moved to that new Logan park (so they'll be there at the same time) We've been to one meet with them when Kyojin was younger but it probably wouldn't be suitable for a meet for all of us since it's a very large group of huge dogs with strong personalities. So you might want to try that one on a Saturday or something.

So sorry to hear that

That doesn't interest me as I feel it could fall off too easily, or be taken off. What I would be interested in though is like a GPS tracking chip instead. That I would buy. I worry more about Kyojin being stolen or let out by some moron ignoring the signs on my front door rather than just him escaping himself.

Great photos everyone. Echo is such a stunning dog! Love the cauliflower sheep KTB And the pancakes and crepes look delicious!

:D Oh my gosh! Who would have thought something like that could happen

I absolutely hated leaving Kyojin at the vets when he got desexed. I spent the whole day checking the clock waiting for it to be 4pm so I could leave work and ring the vets to see if he could come home. I think I would have cried if they had said they needed him to stay OH and I are going away for 16 days in June for our honeymoon and we're already both devastated at the thought of leaving him. I think if we hadn't already paid for our flights, we would have changed our minds and found somewhere pet friendly at the beach here instead. I'm not really comfortable with any of the options we have for him while we're away.

I wasn't walking him, but Kyojin and I had been doing some training in the backyard. As we were coming out the front gate, I tripped over Kyojin and this huge chunk of pebbly cement (from an old letter box or something). Ended up with 6 stitches in the bottom of my foot and a tetanus shot since it was during the time of the floods so my yard was pretty manky.

Do You Refer To Yourself As You Dogs "mum Or Dad"?
minxy replied to shells's topic in General Dog Discussion
OH and I refer to ourselves as mum and dad to our three pets. I wouldn't say that in public though; we really only mean it in a light-hearted kind of way. -
I have a Dyson DC25 Hepa Plus. I loooove it!

Sorry guys, I've just been reading lately and not posting, so I'm struggling to keep up with what's going on. Just checking in to say hello to everyone in the safe corner. We've had two weeks off training as our trainer has been in the hospital, so I've got my fingers crossed that training will resume tomorrow night. Last night OH and I were in bed watching tv and we were talking about how good Kyojin cuddles were. So OH says okay, lets allow him to come up on the bed just for tonight since it's pretty rare that OH and I get time to just watch tv together. So Kyojin awkwardly climbs up since he really doesn't know why we want him on the bed, and he's a bit unsure as to why the ground is now soft and squishy. I'm lying there CRINGING waiting for him to walk all over me, which didn't end up being too bad until one leg decided to climb over my throat!! Silly oaf ;) Turns out you really can't fit two adults and nearly 40kg worth of Akita in a queen bed together and be comfortable. It was still kind of nice though since Kyojin really does give the best cuddles. I may be imagining it, but I'm pretty sure he had a big grin on his face

I don't know about the other Spitz's but my Akita is just as easy as the two Rotties I've had. I actually think I prefer his hair. Okay, so he'll have coat blows which are a lot of effort, but in general he sheds so much less than my rotties have, and doesn't soak up the dirt in his coat. I find when I pat my parents rotty my hands end up brown from all the dirt that just catches in her coat. I did forget to mention in my post that I would love to have another Rotty of my own one day though. I think having an Akita and a Rotty would be a good mix.

My Dog's Turned Me Into Her Personal Maid Lol
minxy replied to Lena.'s topic in General Dog Discussion
We vacuum every 2 days (sometimes more) and steam mop roughly once a week. Of course we do it more if we need to. The cats are our main problem - two ginger cats shedding constantly onto dark wooden floors. -
Cuuuute pups! I didn't realise Corgi's had that variation in colours. I want to steal one Also, at Corgi Ava. It really does look like her!

Kyojin was just desexed a couple of weeks ago. He only had one descended testicle too, so they had to go searching for his other one. He was obviously very uncomfortable afterward and for the first day he kept falling onto his bum constantly, was having trouble going to the toilet. It probably took about a day before he pooed. Could it be that Kairu's just in a bit of pain and not wanting to go??

I was thinking the same thing ETA: Or even a face washing of Akitas

Sorry guys, but unfortunately it looks like this time I'll have to give it a miss. I now have to spend the day making my wedding invitations instead

Oh don't worry, I'm a bad dog mumma too. I've been taking Kyojin's water away from him at night time too lately. Not completely though, as it's literally right outside the laundry door so whenever I take him out to pee (which is pretty often as he always needs to pee) he can have a drink. He can also help himself to the cat's bowl if he's desperate. I just like to limit it a bit to try and get him to sleep longer. So far it hasn't helped But I am determined to get him to sleep past 6 am without being busting to go to the toilet! I leave a collar on him at all times. One, I don't want him to ever escape or anything and not have our phone numbers on it. I think having the number right there is better than hoping that people will take him to the vet and get his microchip scanned and sort it out from there. Also, I'm too lazy to keep taking it off and putting it back on again when he's inside/outside etc. I don't feed raw either. He gets kibble. He does well on kibble. He does well on this particular brand of kibble. I don't care what % of blah blah is in it, or what so and so thinks of it. He's healthy and happy. He gets bones on occasion, and sometimes a bit of yoghurt/egg/veges etc.
-
The most important thing is finding a food that your dogs do well on. Everyone is going to have a different opinion on foods. What others think is the top kibble might be horrible for your dogs. If your happy with their condition, is there any real need to change??

It was BOILING! I'm pretty sure it was the hottest day of summer for us this year. Fortunately they had lots of water bowls everywhere and a few splash pools to keep the dogs cool Kyliegirl: Lovely photos of Echo. Gosh he's becoming a big boy!!

Raven: That dog is beautiful, hopefully he finds a good home. I had forgotten it was you who posted about the rat poision. That's very, very scary! Woofstock is like a festival for dogs. I think this was the first year they ran it in Brisbane (They do one in a few other places too). I guess they had to start small to see how it would go, but unfortunately it was SO small that I wouldn't waste my money going back, not for a few years at least. ETA: Forgot to say what a gorgeous photo of Astrid, I love camera close ups

I was thinking of starting this same thread myself. Kyojin attracts a LOT of attention, but we have noticed that in particular, it is really old women that seem to love him the most! We can't seem to go anywhere without some 70+ year old lady calling out for us to stop across the other street so she can come over and say hello
