  1. Unless they grow up with cats they probably wouldn't do well together. It's the same thing with Akitas. Lots of prey drive for small animals such as cats. My boy came to us at about 12 weeks old, so he's gotten used to always having two cats around. He's great with them (he does play bitey face with my male cat who, surprisingly, loves that game soooo much) but we won't ever leave them home alone together.
  2. That's disgraceful. If he believed the dog was dangerous he should have gone through the council. It's not up to him to make that call. How awful for the owners too who had to witness it
  3. I love how at the end Elbie's like "Oh no! There's a camera. How do I turn this damn thing off?!"
  4. I've thought about getting Kyojin one for his crate. My dog trainers posted them on facebook when they were on COTD a couple of weeks ago recommending them. They look like they might help cool them a little bit.
  5. Thanks Sandgrubber. That's what I assumed they did, like most breeds they lose more hair with the change of seasons. Same as our retriever does.
  6. Hey Dognerd Yay! Can't wait to see photos in the Spitz thread. These play groups we're talking about are run by Urban Dog Training at Carindale. A few of us train there. If you're a member there, you're also entitled to go to the free puppy play groups that they run on Sundays. They split them into puppy group (8 weeks to 16 weeks) and split again into small breed pups and large breed pups, and then the adolescent group is for pups 6-12 months (again, split into small breeds and large breed groups).
  7. Okay, I've just enrolled for play group
  8. Thanks, I just might have to come and stalk you guys
  9. Oooh I can actually make this week's Adolescent play group. I've never been to one before. Every one I've been able to make, they've cancelled Not sure if I'm game to go though. Does anyone know what the adolescent large breed one is like??
  10. Oh whoops, sorry Raz! I missed it because I was trying to catch up with everything that had gone on
  11. What a gorgeous boy Sammie! You're not supposed to post cute photos in here though. I really want a Frenchie and it's all your fault! Where are your photos Raz?? OH's worried that having two dogs would mean that poor Kyojibear wouldn't get enough love anymore
  12. I voted female, the only reason being that I already have a male Akita and having one of each would be much more manageable, i.e. avoiding same sex aggression. This is only if we have two dogs. If we don't have another pup until after Kyojin I would get a male. I prefer the general personality of male dogs better. And, I would prefer another male Akita due to their size.
  13. Really? I've never heard of my friends Labs blowing coat
  14. Yes, I believe that a Lab could be just as good at being a guard dog as a GS is. And yes I believe an Akita could be just as good as an assistance dog as a Lab. However, there are other factors for ruling them out - for example, a dog that blows coat really wouldn't be the best choice for an assistance dog.
  15. Not great for their teeth, contents of a lot of canned products aren't very nutritious, and they can tend to give dogs runnier, smelly poos.
  16. Thank god you said exactly what I was thinking, but too lazy to type Every single dog attack thread gets ambushed with BSL crap. Why can't we just discuss the actual incident?
  17. Akita puppies Samoyed, German Shepherd, Rottweiler and Husky puppies too
  18. Hoover was looking sooo cute all tucked in to his bed, but boy Elbie looks super adorable walking around with his yellow towel
  19. My parents two females love each other to bits. They've never had an issue. I hear people talking about same sex aggressiong all the time though on here, but I can't say I know of anyone who has had a particular issue.
  20. I have two new pics I can share. Not super exciting, but they'll do. We'd just come home from the groomers. They bathed him and cut his nails and then I dried him off with the force dryer at home.
  21. Haha yea, they are gorgeous. There are some beautiful ones that I would love one day when I have a bitch. This is what I'm thinking of for my boy: Collar - in black Leash
