Sorry to hear that Hope he heals quickly. It does suck when you do your best to make sure everything is covered but something still doesn't go just right. Sounds like you've done a great job though in trying to make your absence easy on the animals and ensure they're well cared for.

Kyojin won't close his mouth. He looks like such a big goofball with his mouth open, and refuses to take nice photos for me.

Whoops, misread the second question. I answered where I want the dog to sleep. I have no idea where Kyojin would want to sleep. He's been crated since the day we brought him home. I've never had any other reason to crate him other than at night, so I'm not really sure what he thinks of it. He won't go in there by himself, but he has no reason to. He prefers to nap wherever we are.

Kyojin's name means giant or colossal, and so far he's turned out to be a pretty big boy.

Just saw your post GG. Unfortunately I can't make it as it's getting a bit close to my wedding so I've got so much going on at the moment. Would love to get together with everyone for a play date once all the craziness is over though!

Fortunately because most people have no idea what an Akita is, they also have no opinion on them. (Except of course if I show them a picture, then everyone says they want one ) But there were a few people at dog parks etc that would ask whether he was a fighting dog etc. I did have one old man hit Kyojin on the head for trying to play with his dog. He hadn't done anything wrong, and there were several other dogs playing with her. We were at an incredibly busy park that always has at least 30 dogs in the big dog section, but from the get go he singled Kyojin out and wouldn't let him out of his sight.

Kyojin came from Canberra. It was just extremely good timing that we came across him, as he was meant to be going home with someone else, but they pulled out. So because it was very late notice etc, we didn't go and meet him. We had him flown to us 2 or so days after we found out about him. If we had known about him since he was first born etc, we would have had more time/money to arrange to go and visit him. We would have flown though rather than driven.

I wouldn't pay for a vet that charges any more because of a dog's age/size. I "shopped around" for a vet that I was comfortable with, and who I feel had fair prices.

We really want to get a doggy door for Kyojin but I just know that Oscar would figure it out. He tries to bolt out the door every single time that we open it as it is!

Ah yea, I forgot that my animals all have a folder each too

All of Kyojin's leashes are hung up in the entry room on a hook. The majority of his toys (when they're not scattered all through the house, or in the backyard) are stacked up in a kitty litter tray in the entry room. Any sprays/medications etc are in a plastic crate in the laundry, his other bits and pieces are in a big cardboard box on the dryer, and all of his blankets and towels are on their own shelf in the linen cupboard.

Based on the quotes I was getting for picking up my puppy at 12 weeks old from Canberra to Brisbane, that's a bloody great price! I went with Dogtainers in the end who were brilliant, and half the price of some other quotes I got.

You think that's a kick? It's a question about a situation the OP put to a forum. I'm interested to know if Jazzy changed or the OP's perception of Jazzy changed. My friend is removing a 10 month female because it almost killed an older dog - eventhough my friend knew the bitch's genetic potential / predisposition from the outset. These scenarios and the ruminations of the dog's owners interest me. What you call a kick I call data collection. That may be so but using emotive words like "kill" is NOT necessary It really wasn't meant to be an emotive piece. Then don't post on a thread where someone is clearly upset by quite a traumatizing experience. Take your "data collection" elsewhere.

I'm glad she came to that decision. I think it was a really poor move on the breeder's part in giving this dog to a first time dog owner. Hopefully your friend will find the right companion for their family
