  1. That would have been so distressing for poor Daisy! I was so glad to read your post that she was okay.
  2. I guess. Depending on what your main priorities are. I never asked a single breeder for a price.
  3. It took us 10 months to find a pup. We were having zero luck finding a good breeder when all of a sudden I got an email one from one I'd contacted about two months prior to check what sex dog I was after, and whether I wanted a show or companion pup. I said I'd prefer a dog to a bitch, but I'd take either, and I'd also prefer a companion dog. Kyojin was supposed to have been adopted by someone else but they pulled out on the day they were meant to take him home. When the breeder described Kyojin to me he sounded absolutely perfect. I asked him how soon he could send him to me. Three days later I picked up my beautiful boy from the airport. I had seen one photo of him when he was about 5 weeks younger, so I got a huge surprise when I first saw him. He had already grown four times the size! He was the most stunning pup I'd ever seen in my life and I knew I loved him straight away. When the roller doors at the airport went up, we busted four or five airport staff crowding around him giving him cuddles and fussing over him. As we walked out with him we ran into a mother and her two kids and spent about 20 minutes with them letting them give him cuddles. I loved how much joy he brought to us instantly and how much joy he brought to others. He still makes people smile and laugh wherever we go. I love him to pieces
  4. Not dog related, but anyway: However his favourite seat is the one he's sitting on right now - my lap
  5. Damn, I can't seem to find the photos of Kyojin in his reindeer antlers from his first Christmas last year. So the closest I have to dress ups is this photo from his first birthday this year, with his photo bombing brother Oscar. I'd like to get him a huge red and white scarf and a new set of antlers (he ate last years) for this Christmas to make a nice card for family. Not sure if I'll be able to find a scarf like I want though.
  6. I would also suggest a Rottweiler. I think they tick all the boxes. Not to mention they're just plain amazing dogs!
  7. Another solo dog owner here. I'd love a second one though.
  8. i had one of those OH who didn't want another dog. I broke him down luckily. My first dog loves playing with other dogs and its working out fantastically. there is still a borzoi pup looking for a home you know ;) Well atleast last time i checked. He dislikes huskies enough as it is, I don't think the Borzoi spirit will suit him either Definitely an Akita!
  9. Yayy! Very good choice :D Who are you getting her from?? Thanks! I think it's a good choice too! Lol! We are getting Kiara from Ishin Akita down in Tassie...theyhave been excellent to deal with! Plan on flying her up here to the Gold Coast around the 26 Nov. I'm doing so much planning and prep for her arrival...my partner calls it "nesting" lol! Love the pic btw! Where did you get Kyojin? Awesome! Ishin have lovely looking dogs. We got Kyojin from Darqhorse in Canberra. It was really exciting going to pick him up from the airport! Darqhorse boy...Niiice! Are you planning on showing him? Yes it will be an awesome day when we pick her up from the airport...1 question..collar or harness to start off with...I'm so unsure..I'd prefer to use a harness but I've read that with Akitas this can encourage pulling... Nup, Kyojin can't be shown as he only had one descended testicle. So that ruled him out immediately! Is yours going to be shown? I started Kyojin off with a collar and I would probably do this again with our next Akita. We now walk him on a martingale collar which has just been the decision we ever made. He wasn't exactly a big puller most of the time, but if he did want to forge ahead it would really hurt as there's a LOT of strength behind him!! I did buy a harness for him too, mostly for the car but can also be used for walking, but I nearly really used it just because it's a bit more effort getting him into it.

  12. Neither, mine has never cocked his leg either.
  13. Hmm I've had... 3 boys and 3 girls. I much prefer boys. I'll probably only ever get another bitch if it's because I've got two Akitas at once. Otherwise I much prefer the personality of boys. They seem to be much smoochier which I like. Can't say that I get bits rubbed on me
  14. Lovely photos guys! The doggies look like they were having an absolute ball
  15. The only kibble Kyojin's ever had is ProPlan. Luckily he absolutely loves the stuff. Though, I'm pretty sure he'd eat anything if you put yoghurt on it!
  16. Hmm no, it's actually never happened to me. I've only ever been interested in big dogs. I'd love for Kyojin to be bigger!!
  17. Happy birthday gorgeous girl!!!
  18. This thread now has me terrified that Kyojin is going to start eating foul things and bring them into the house
