  1. Minxy, when was this ? Medibank Private, underwritten by Hollard Insurance Company specifically states in section 2.2 (point 2) that they will not pay for or cover any vet expenses attributable to petellar luxation. Looks like all pet insurance underwritten by Hollard has the same PDS. http://www.medibank.com.au/pet-insurance/pdfs/MPL918%20-%20Pet%20Insurance%20PDS%20FA%20web2.pdf for reference He's still being treated for it currently. Medibank won't treat for patella luxation under Accident cover, only Illness.
  2. Professional pot plant racing and "How much cat can you fit in your mouth at once?" competitions. But on a serious note, Kyojin's great at obedience. The breed are known for being stubborn, but I have heard of quite a few being good at Obedience. What Akitas aren't crash hot at though is
  3. I'm not sure, but I wondered that myself as soon as I read it.
  4. This is the blog by K9 Pro - http://k9pro.com.au/blog/?p=249 They believed he had a brain tumor and was put to sleep.
  5. Oh gosh, lucky you saw what happened this time!
  6. Very sweet. Kyojin and my cat Oscar have the same friendship. It's so lovely that cats and dogs can be best friends.
  7. Can't say I've ever really had a company offer a refund or replacement if something has gone missing. That's what paying for registered post is for :) But as for K9Pro, I've only placed one order with them, but their service was brilliant and the product outstanding.
  8. Only just noticed this thread. Alicia, if you're still hanging around, I'd love to hear how your boy is going now.
  9. Bummer, my favourite site doesn't have Holistic Select.
  10. Kyojin - giant/colossal in Japanese Mika - New moon in Japanese Oscar - just always wanted to get a cat named Oscar
  11. Thank you for sharing the videos. Pachinko was a very beautiful dog. Love the one of her watching Hachi - Akitas are such a special breed.
  12. Excellent!! Thanks for the update. I'm glad that he's starting to catch up to a more healthy weight range now.
  13. Not allowed in the kitchen or on any furniture. We've just bought a new house that has carpet in the bedrooms so kyojin won't be allowed in those either.
  14. I use and LOVE Medibank Private. It only costs me $222.58 a year to insure Kyojin, with $500 excess. I made my first claim 4 months after getting pet insurance when we discovered that Kyojin had luxating patellas. Since May of last year, We have spent approximately $7000-8000 on him. That is for about a squillion consults, xrays, and surgery of his left knee. The actual cost to us has only been the $722.58 - excess and premium. Otherwise, every cent has been returned to us and each claim within 2 weeks, no questions asked.
  15. Kyojin was operated on with Grade 1. I still can't understand how it was only classed as a grade 1, when by definition it was far worse than that. It was definitely not something he could live with and meant that without surgery he was only allowed to walk for 15 minutes at a time, no playing with other dogs etc. (His knees would pop out just walking around normally and we could no longer pop them back. Sometimes they would both pop out and he'd fall over). He would grind his teeth in pain. So for us it was pretty important that we did something about it.
  16. Ah bummer, miles away from here. I was going to suggest seeing the specialist we have been seeing with Kyojin's LPs (and who did the surgery on him). Usually deepening of the groove is the most common, but the specialist can't really be certain what they'll do until they can have a good look. We were expecting Kyojin's groove to be deepened, but when the surgeon operated on him decided the best thing to try would be to realign some ligaments to hold everything into place.
  17. Very bizarre. Loved the lettuce leaves and the taco
  18. Yes, I should add that Kyojin needed surgery for his. He had surgery on his left knee about 9 weeks ago and is still recovering.
  19. It is usually more common in small breeds, but my Akita has it. What you've described could possibly be LP. You'll want to see a specialist and get x-rays done to be sure.
  20. Wow. I just cant fathom that. I cannot understand that logic in the slightest. The mind boggles.
