What Time Do You Feed Your Dogs?
rusty&biscuit replied to flame ryder's topic in General Dog Discussion
I only feed mine once a day too. Usually at 8:30 at night, then they don't poo until about midday :p -
How To Start A Fight At The Dog Park!
rusty&biscuit replied to Yonjuro's topic in General Dog Discussion
So glad you and Ronin are okay! Re the bolded bit, I agree 100%. I always ask people before giving their dog a treat, and am not happy if people do not do the same for my dogs. I prefer my dogs not taking treats from strangers as I am a worry wort haha. But I stopped going to a particular area here when a guy started doing the exact same thing, scattering treats around. I was pretty furious, I normally just play with my dogs in a different area (this is a park that's not fenced, and it's big) but as I was walking back to the car a guy with a whole group of dogs around him was scattering food and called my dogs over. Bloody hell, Rusty might look pretty, but I've never seen a dog go as hard in a fight as him when food is around. I would not risk having him attack another dog, or another dog do the same to mine (especially the little one). Some things are really not thought through by people, and I'm lucky I got my 3 back no problem before they got among all those other dogs. -
Done, nice and quick survey for those thinking of doing it...took me less than 2 minutes :)

Agility Nationals 2014
rusty&biscuit replied to rusty&biscuit's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Oh I know who you are sheena! Don't be silly, Rusty doesn't look very Aussie, even a show judge told me he looks more BC  And yeah they did look sooo alike!! How did you go down there? And thanks for the link to the courses. At training yesterday afternoon our club very kindly set up the JDX300 final course after my request, I just had to master the part I stuffed up and figure out what works best for Biscuit if we ever come across a course like that again :) That's the great thing about dogs, they're all individual and what works awesome for one dog might be different for another, so I am still figuring Biscuit out but I think we make a pretty good team :D CBD that's great you got a qually!! And some placings! I agree it was great seeing so many different breeds. Haha I felt pretty stupid reconising a dog off the internet haha but it was lovely meeting you! I brought my camera but was pretty bummed I was too busy to video any other runs, then I was too nervous to have dad filming Biscuit, but when I finally got him to film Bikky it was an awesome run but he forgot to press record Haha oh well -
Red Fox she's gorgeous! Pupster that'd be awesome!! Unforunately due to unforseen circumstances I can no longer consider taking up the sport with my Aussie, but I would love to come along as a volunteer/helper, so I can learn how it's all done and be a part of the action for many years down the track when I get a dog suited for the sport! I will be going to the US for a minimum 6 months at some stage next year, but before I go and when I return would you mind me being a little helper? :) Thank you for replying, I am so looking forward to it now! :D

Aha thank you DD! I'll have a go at posting our ADX run...my body was pointing directly towards the chute instead of the weaves oops, but it was a lot of fun to run. -

Awesome thanks DD, just joined :) I didn't manage to get many videos of Rusty, and unfortunately none of Biscuit But here is a couple of Rusty that were filmed for me: Both DQ's, but had lots of fun with him on these courses! Edit: Hmm not working, anyone know how to embed youtube videos? Here is one of the links: Tried the embed code already but they didn't work -
Agility Nationals 2014

Well I had an awesome time, Rusty had fun, got his snooker title and a gamblers quallie. Biscuit got a JDX 1st, ADX 2nd, JDX 2nd, SD 3rd, and GDX 2nd so was so pleased with him! Stuffed him up in the finals by not being quick enough to send him to the right entrance of the tunnel, but was so pleased to get that far in the first place. Met many lovely people, and was awesome seeing all the top competitors run! Was great meeting beautiful Smudge and Reggie and their lovely 'mum' too. This was my first nationals and I'm already looking forward to the next ones in Adelaide! Anyone have nationals videos to share? Would love to see them! I only got a couple, just in the process of uploading them now :-) -
Small Breeds That Do Well With Larger Dogs
rusty&biscuit replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was going to suggest a tenterfield...I remember as a kid my friends got one as their first dog and she was gorgeous, so devoted and very snuggly. I don't know if it's just my schip or a normal breed trait, but he is a real busy body - prefers to keep watch by my feet than be snuggled up or be cuddled or anything like that, and he sheds a lot. But no doggy odour which is a plus. Hence why I'm not recomending my breed, but someone else with more experience please correct me if I'm wrong. So I thought a tentie might be more suitable...I'd love one one day, I know a few and they seem really robust, easy to maintain (coat wise anyway) and very affectionate! -
Yep Red Fox, that's Indi :D How's your female going? Do you do any sports with her? Indi is a beautiful dog!
-
Sure does, haha Summer is pretty awful up here! Good luck with your training and hopefully something gets going up FNQ way :-) I'll PM you.

E+H I hope things work out for Hudson! Will keep an eye out for him if you're there, as I have an Aussie as well :D Looks just like Sheena's red tri BC (judging by your sig sheena :D ). I found the target at the end of the weaves worked well for Rusty, and with Biscuit I've been throwing large visible treats (a toy would be better if toy motivated) just as he's exiting the last pole so that he drives forward instead of keeping looking up at me. -
Hi, I know of someone at my club in Cairns with a malinois who was talking about doing it at some stage. That was a few months ago and she's now preparing for UDX so not sure when she'd be up for it. Her and her dog are amazing though, beautiful team to watch. I love watching schutzhund, so much work and dedication it's awesome :-)

Thanks sheena, just had a look at the draft and wow that is a lot of dogs! I'm so excited, less than 2 weeks away :D A bit nervous though as I have my 2 in 2 different height categories and in different levels/events, so not sure how that's going to work out -
Good idea, left my comment on someone's post.

How on earth did he get his own show?? Far out if anyone spoke to me the way he spoke to that lady in the video he'd be in trouble, but if anyone smacked my dog, let alone hang it whack across THE FACE they'd be in hospital! :mad But the thing that saddens me the most is that somewhere, there will be people who have never been taught how to train a dog, who will instate these horrendous methods upon their poor dog

Looking For Participants For A Survey
rusty&biscuit replied to Diana R's topic in General Dog Discussion
Done :) -
General Appearance: Small cobby active dog, with sharp foxy expression. Characteristics: Intensely lively and alert. Temperament: Amenable, intelligent and faithful. Yep, every schip I've met certainly fits all of this! Intensely lively, haha it's so funny watching them run around and check out their surroundings, zooming from one place to the next as though they are making sure everything's in order

Around my area I see a lot of little Jack Russell looking dogs actually. That's only in my suburb though. I've noticed pugs gaining more popularity, and all over my Facebook there seems to be a new infatuation with the French Bulldog. However in cairns the bed I've noticed spike the most is actually the Catahoula Leopard dog and their crosses. From customers with new pups at my work, new ones throughout the levels at dog school, and unfortunately a big spike turning up throughout the rescue shelters. beautiful looking dogs, but a lot to handle, and people clueless about the downfalls of breeding merle to merle, resulting in a few deaf dogs come through rescue.

Sorry if I caused confusion, I said she had epilepsy not that she was snappy :) personally I am yet to meet a cranky cocker and I think they are a wonderful breed :) it's a shame that, as you said, that paper wouldn't help them much
-
I'm also a bit shocked at the experiences others have had with cockers...I've never met a nasty one to be honest. All the ones who come to get groomed are so placid and lovely, and we used to live next door to one who was with a family of kids ranging from 1-16. That door never barked, and was such an awesome and gentle playmate for the kids. I have however heard of a workmates mothers (confusing anyone yet?) dog, from a registered breeder breeding for a certain colour, who had severe epilepsy. This turned her off the breed but she has since got a dog from Macdolly who is just gorgeous, and very healthy at that. I know another from that kennel currently being shown in neauter and starting agility, she is a lovely dog too. Sorry for the spiel, but I think if raised right they can be beautiful, easy-going dogs that can be great with children (I say easy-going comparing to my 3 mad dogs  )

Dog Doesn't Like Obedience Class
rusty&biscuit replied to emilymarston's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
:) and that is also when a LOT of people start , AFAIK .When they are able to drive- and take their dog places , and learn more widely :D Perhaps the ones who stop then finally realise that doing agility is not really their dream after all ? Perhaps they don't have the drive and patience anymore ? perhaps they prefer parties and lovers :p I have read through this thread, and I 100% agree with this! I have been training in agility since I was 8, somehow managed to convince my non-dog loving parents to take me, did it all through school, and now that I have graduated a couple of years ago, got a job, a car, and my own dog, I'll be going to the nationals this year! Once your parents see how happy agility makes you, and they start seeing people your age out partying, they might just encourage you to do agility more to keep you out of trouble  But in all seriousness, I was in the same situation as you when I first started, at a club that used harsh methods, got to agility with Cherry where she would run off and be a little bugger. So I changed clubs to one that uses positive training methods, and even though I had to start again it was so worth it. I had a different dog who LOVED training with me, especially agility. She turned into a little superstar! As has been said, keep working on building a relationship with her, set her up for success so she can have a win often and gain some confidence. Don't be so hard on yourself, it is hard starting out especially without being able to just go to any club whenever you want. Even if it takes a while before you start agility competition, you will be building a lasting relationship with Bonnie and you can keep learning invaluable skills along the way, then when the time is right you will be awesome :) -

Well I might see you there Rumour and Agility Dogs :) DT, oh well, life happens! That's awesome that you've been to lots of others, and that you'll be going to Adelaide as well :) Glad to hear that AD, however our contact performance will be wayyy below eveyone elses standards me thinks! I can't wait to watch and learn a lot though :) -
Rusty had one on when he got desexed and he pulled all his stitches out in the short time that he was let outside for a break
-
I'd also suggest a schipperke. Not just because I have one, but they are really a big dog in a small body! Take add much or add little exerciser as you'll give, have no doggy odor, easily trained. I have been told that they are not a very calm breed as a tibbie or a Cavalier, if that's the sort of demeanor she's after. But then again there are individuals in every breed.
