  1. Aww he is just gorgeous, congrats! How wonderful that he is getting along so well with the rest of the family :D
  2. I am surprised no one commented on the bit bolded above. How tiny? I would expect a 7 week old dog that matures to the size of a Cane Corso to be somewhere around 8-10kgs which is hardly tiny. Young yes, not fully vaccinated yes, but tiny, no. If the puppy is a lot smaller than that it may in fact be a lot younger than the supposed 7 weeks. Or it ain't what the owner thought he bought. It's happened a time or six. Yep, got mine as an '8 week old', vet said she was only 5 weeks So glad that years have gone by and I know better now!!
  3. Why? The pup would have been fully weaned for weeks. Many bitches would be spending little time with pups of that age. The owner was trying to socialize the pup in the same manner many novice owners adopt. Calling him a moron is unfair. Seems to me some friendly advice was what was called for. Agree. When I got my first puppy who was from a BYB, I didn't know any better and had her down at the beach at 7 weeks trying to socialise, hell, I thought I was doing the right thing. He may have thought he was doing the right thing by not coddling it too, in case he encouraged the response. The guy probably just needs a friendly talking to, you have to remember that not every person is an expert on dogs.
  4. Hahaha that is so cute!
  5. Some people make me sick, he looks like such a gorgeous boy, and big cudos to you for rescuing him! Fingers crossed for the paper work!
  6. They're not docked, some are actually born with bob tails, which you will find in a lot of other breeds as well :) I'm sure if you requested you could get one with a tail, I have found that a lot of Aussie pet owners like this, just judging by the few people I know who have bought Aussies with tails because it was their preference  My boy was born with a tail :)
  7. Oh, I thought BH was American, would love to try now I know it's Australian! It's just the postage cost that is really getting me. There's a lady in Townsville I'll have to contact her sometime when I'm not too busy. Tried Biscuit on Nutro, his poos much better but his teeth are going yuck and his breath has never smelt so bad! It's been 2 weeks or more so I've just mixed the rest in with the Eukanuba, he was going well on it apart from finding it difficult to pass. Rusty is still going extremely well on Holistic Select, however is STILL skinny He doesn't poo as much so it can't be just passing right through him. I thought he was putting on weight, but now I'm not so sure. I can easily feel his hips and it's yuck. Sigh, this is so difficult. I've added chicken wings 2-3 times a week for their diet, and will have to start giving Rusty some Advance canned food again, hopefully seeing as it is beef it will help him put on a bit of extra weight. bunyip, I didn't really start noticing obvious changes until the dogs were completely switched to the different food. It took between 4 days to a week to get them on the new food completely, then I noticed changes about a week later. BH is a good idea, I might try it too.
  8. Aw he's gorgeous! How lucky, and good on you for convincing your cousin to go down this route
  9. Aw he is SO cute! Congrats on your new little boy :D
  10. I love both breeds, but am partial to bostons. After meeting one I just loved the smooth sleek coat, and she was great with my boy Biscuit and a real cuddle bug too. Had quite a spunky littl personality as well...definately on my 'to own' list! Just sharing my experience with you, havn't shared much time with pugs
  11. How exciting! And what a little cutie he is
  12. Amazing, thoroughly enjoyed it, thank you for posting
  13. Toy breeds. aka small white fluffies. Ohhh I see  There not my most favourite either, but their are some wonderful ones...just wouldn't own a small white fluffy  IF that excludes breeds like pom or chi
  14. I'd go with either really. I've had 2 of each and had a cuddly boy and cuddly girl, then a boy and a girl who only come when asked/can't sit still  I currently have 1 girl and 2 boys, and really the only major difference I see is the smell of the pee, boys are yucky! Edited to add, I notice that females seem a lot more sought after than males. Usually I notice more males than females in shelters too
  15. I LOVE this movie, gets me every time. Has also got me in love with the Japenese Akita Inu!
  16. I'm in the same position as you OP, have so many working breeds I'd love to own, but don't have the space when I move out BUT, my list is: More schipperkes (I'm lucky I already have one :D ) ACD!!! Been wanting for at least 5 years  Kelpie, either working or show...just love 'em Newfoundland And I'd definately have another rescue!
  17. Favourite: Schipperkes and ACD's. Why? Schips - big dogs in little bodies, willing to please, very funny, incredibly cute, aloof with strangers unless I approve, trainable ACDs: pretty much the same as schips, except for the little body part  Beautiful dogs to look at, and both ACD's and schips are incredibly loyal. Least favourite: I think anything from the hound group I could just not live with  Unlike what many others have said, I like terriers, after my little staffy cross girl - she is an excellent problem solver, and is in her element doing agility and clicker taining....however that could just be from whatever other breeds are in her
  18. My thought exactly Everyone has given fantastic advice here Jed, schips shed quite a lot, so I'm not too sure they would be suitable. I thought maybe whippet? Standard poodles recieve such a bad rap, they are beautiful dogs, and I love the unclipped look
  19. showdog, I do agree that there are those in the public not-so-nice. At one show someone came up to my mum and I sitting with Biscuit, very glumly mentioned it's a schip and he likes them better without tails. Although it's nothing, mum however did get offended and said, "well I like his tail", to which he replied "does it ever wag? Cos it's not now", to have her snap back, "well it's because he doesn't like you" There are a lot of "anti-showies" who nit pick too. I remember at one ag show a woman patting Rusty, then snapped at me "His nails are way too short!". I smugly lifted up the coat on his paws to reveal the rest of his normal length tails, and mentioned that the coat is just hiding it. It's fair to say she seemed fairly embarrassed. But yes, I find majority of the public and showies alike to be great, and I love the ag shows so people get to interact with my breed, and get educated :D
  20. Wow, didn't realise this thread was still going! Have changed Rusty onto Holistic Select Anchovy and salmon, and is doing great on it! He gets so excited for dinner time now. The smell of it is so much bette than the bland Eukanuba. He is passing stools easier, and there is much less in each one. I am able to feed him less and he's put on a healthy amount of weight. I feel he is actually absorbing it a lot better, if that makes sense. I have been mixing some in with Biscuit's food too, and he seems to be going well with it. However my parents pay for Rusty and Cherry, whereas Biscuit is all mine. And with the discounts I get on Eukanuba where I work, I think he'll just stay on that for the meantime. And Cherry goes fantastic on Eukanuba senior. Someone was asking about Advance in this thread. I think it depends on the dog. I hated it, Rusty and Biscuit were on it for a year or two (I can get it from my work too), but they were pooing at least 3 times per walk, and despite being on 'dental', they both got horrible plaque on their teeth. Rusty didn't enjoy it either, you could see him really forcing himself to eat it. HOWEVER, another collegue brought her bull arab mix into work on one of her days off, to say hi. Lucy (the dog) is fed on Advance, she has the most beautiful glossy coat, good muscle tone, the cleanest teeth, and no bad breathe. COMPLETLY opposite to how Rusty did on that food. Frustrating, you just gotta find the one that works for your dog!
  21. I've seen one or 2 people like that in 4 years, but most people are lovely and so willing to share their information. My 3 LOVE the attention they get at the ag shows, so as long as people ask, I am more than happy for them to pat my dogs. A bit off topic, but I notice that each year more and more children ask to pat, which is excellent Anyway, like others have said, there will be some petty ones, but majority of "showies" are very nice, so just take them as they come :)
  22. This is so sad Sounds lik the shop owner is a very decent person, poor guy. I hope the shop was insured. RIP to all the pets who perished in the fire
  23. 'Deefa' beds are good also, incredibly good value. Mines being going about 5 years strong, at least, withstanding 4 dogs. The smaller the bed, the lower it gets to the ground, so shouldn't be too hard for littlies. I don't know of any other brands, so that is all I can suggest, sorry. Good luck in finding suitable beds :)
