  1. Aw I love this thread, it's so cute and happy! :D Parkeyre...I want! That's so cute! I remember when my friends old dog did that, was so darn cute. Never seen any other dog do it in front of me since. Now for my happy little vegemites: Biscuit's the King! by All4aBiscuit, on Flickr Happy Boy [Outtake 2/52] by All4aBiscuit, on Flickr Now, Cherry is a very happy smiley girl, but she just prefers to keep her mouth shut and look adorable for photos, like this: I'll Be a Christmas Tree if Food is Involved by All4aBiscuit, on Flickr :D I'll have to dig a photo up of my second girl Lassie, she had the best smile!
  2. Hahah these are great....the second shot of Justice, dear lord Here's one I dug up from when I was trying to get a 'nice' shot of them all: Another 'Practical' Portrait by All4aBiscuit, on Flickr
  3. I have tried sooo many foods for the boys recently  Cherry has been great on Eukanuba all her life, I have found it has been fantastic for her, especially the senior version. Rusty didn't do well on Eukanuba, very skinny despite being fed over the recommended amount, as he would just poop it all out. Same on Advance and BH. His teeth also went horrible on these 3. But now he is on Holistic Select anchovy and does great on it...needs fed a lot less, poos less, coat's great, and teeth are great. But in proving every dog is different, I still haven't found the best food for Biscuit. He's currently on Eukanuba as it's been the best so far, he has a lovely shiny coat and his teeth are good, however he gets very constipated. Have tried Nutro, his breath and teeth went horrid, same with Holistic Select and Advance, then tried him on Supercoat and he lost so much condition coatwise, musclewise...everything really. Then went for BH, was really hoping it'd work but he lost so much weight, his coat went gross and he pooed lots. So I'm trying adding some canned food, fruit, veg and fresh meat to their diet to see if it'll help Biscuit pass a bit easier. Otherwise I might try him on RC or something else in the new year. The things we do for our loved ones hey
  4. Congrats on the new addition, how exciting! :D Can't wait to see photos ;)
  5. Your heart will tell you when you're ready for another, and if that's now, so be it :) After my first dog passed, and we got Rusty, I didn't see it as replacing Lassie, but more so helping to mend the hole in my heart. I think it's personal choice wether you'd like another amstaff or not...I guess I worry about ever getting another schipperke and comparing it to Biscuit because it will have a lot to live up to! :p However I'm not really a "one breed" person myself, there's a few others I'd like to try before I devote myself purely to one breed :) But I'm sure if you'd like to try another breed whenever you're ready for a new addition, just give us your criteria for another dog and these amazingly knowledgable people will be able to give you informed advice :)
  6. I hope they do another offer like this later! I just can't afford it this month
  7. Yay! :D Reading countless dog encyclopedias when I was a kid did have its upside  No idea in hell how to attach a photo, so I'll let someone take my go :) espinay2 was the next guess, so off you go! :D
  8. Is it a pumi? Wow, so many breeds on this thread I've never heard of before
  9. Wow, that's awesome! Like Tassie said, sounds like you and her were just meant to be! Can't wait to see photos when she gets home!
  10. I just love reading through this thread, it truly is heartwarming! With Cherry I was so young I don't really remember...but I see her as a bit of a "Red Dog"...she is just like the dog in the movie, would be anyones dog, but when it comes down to it, she is really dads dog. She has been fantastic for me, she was our first ever dog as a family, I have grown up with her and she was always there for me, and was always a shoulder to cry on during tough times. She got mum over her intense fear of dogs, and now has mum a dog lover...hek, she even likes her previous most feared breed, staffies! Rusty it has taken a very long time, and although I love him deeply and we are bonded, he is not a "heart dog" as such. From his age 18 months - 3 and a bit years, I hated him...in all honesty, we had a severe personality clash and I couldn't stand him. But now that both he and I have matured, I love him to pieces, and wouldn't even consider giving him up for all the money in the world. I think it was only just earlier this year that I started looking at him and really thinking "god, I love this dog", and when he started showing it back. I still, however, haven't figured out wether he is more bonded to me or my dad. At the moment it seems pretty equal, but when it comes time to move out of home I will let Rusty decide where he wants to be, I love him too much to seperate him from dad if that's what he really wants. But I am so glad I persevered with my boy, he is just an absolute delight to have around. With Biscuit it was almost instant. I saw him in his crate after coming off the plane, and I just fell in love. He snuggled up to me the hole way home in the car, and seemed to rely on me when introducing him to Rusty. To this day I feel our bond grows stronger as each year goes by...he is just the most wonderful, happy little dog around and really makes me smile and feel warm and fuzzy in side, he makes me feel like I am really worth something, and I hope I've made him feel the same way.
  11. Cherry is mostly dad's, but really she is a bit like Red Dog - she can be anybody's dog!! At the end of the day though she'll always go back to dad. Biscuit is mine, there's no doubt about it. He seems to only have eyes for me, is such a good boy for me but not always for anyone else. He is my constant shadow, and if h's not inside following me around, he's outside going by each window following me to each room! Makes you feel a bit special that something could care for you so much  And Rusty, I'm not sure to be honest. He was intended to be mine, but in his eyes it's either me or dad, but really don't know which . He'll whinge for dad and get distracted in the obedience ring if he sees him, but he whines for me too. He is obedient for all 3 of us, but sometimes it seems he would prefer to be with dad more than me. Hopefully I'll know for sure in a few years time, because when I move out I'll take him with me if he chooses, but if not, as hard as it would be, I couldn't bear to take him off dad. Dad seems very smitten by Rusty too. But I'll wait and deal with it when the time comes, it's a while away yet
  12. When we got Cherry we just wanted a rescue, dad didn't want a small dog, mum was terrified of dogs, but slowly getting over it, so she didn't want anything big. So an in-between middle size was just right. We got a call from the animal shelter we had been searching at for a while saying the perfect dog for us had come in, we went and saw her, and that was it. It was our first dog and I was only 6 at the tim too so we didn't want anything boisterous. The shelter did a great job matching us all, I couldn't have asked for a better doggy! When getting Rusty our other dog Lassie had passed, a BYB who we dearly loved but just wasn't destined to be, and eventually we were ready for another dog. This time I wanted to do it right, and get into the world of showing. So I found DOL, did my research. I wanted an ACD, as they are my favourite breed, but mum and dad disagreed. This dog had to be able to do agility, be trainable, loyal, smart. So we ended up deciding on the Aussie. Finally Biscuit, I wanted a third dog sooo badly, a few years later my parents finally agreed, on a few conditions: I had to pay for the purchase, and everything throughout its whole life. It had to be small, and not fluffy. I wanted something tough, that could compete in agility, something a bit "different", a breed that is reserved with strangers, and a 'one person dog'. So I found a schipperke. Best dog in the entire world!!
  13. I have 3 here but I only pay for one, and that's Biscuit. I would LOVE more dogs but seeing as I'll be moving out of home in a few years, it will be very hard to find a place with more than 1 small dog, plus being able to afford everything In future though I'd like more, I really enjoying having 3 (I am the one who does feeding, walking, etc), and if I could afford it I'd have my 3 plus one or 2 more..but totally unrealistic!
  14. Can someone please tell me if they are just doing best in group and runner up in group, or group 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th? :) InspectorRex, just checked the catalogue, they are on tomorrow :)
  15. My goal is to have happy, healthy dogs ultimately...to have them super fit, and to make sure I will always have money in my bank to care for my babies, and spoil them from time to time ;) My goals competition-wise...I'd love to get further with Rusty in obedience, work on his concentration that bit extra. I'd like to get Biscuit to a high level in agility, and it would be great if I could get him obedience titled when he calms down! And my ultimate short-term goal is to get Cherry's ADM title...been in that class for 2-3 years (however haven't competed much since then, only really got back into it this year), and still haven't got it...simple things like jumping off contacts and knocking bars have stood in the way
  16. Ehhhh, I need help! I am trying Biscuit on BH, his coat has gone so lovely and he isn't struggling to poo...however, his breath stinks. This happens with every single food I've tried him on except for Eukanuba. Holistic Select, Advance, Nutro, Supercoat, and now BH. He gets this same foul smelling breath on all these foods except for Eukanuba...and I know that in people this type of smelly breath can be linked to problems in the stomach...is this the same for dogs? I understand every dog is different in regards to food, that is why I'm trying to find the right one for Biscuit...but I'm wondering if maybe the right food for him is just Eukanuba...but BH is really good despite the yucky yucky gross breath
  17. Haha sorry it sounded that way, no I don't think it is ok at all. I was merely stating that that not ALL pet shops keep 'stocked up' on puppy farm puppies. I would love it if the government banned the sale of puppies from pet shops. I hate having puppies in at my work because of all the naivity of people I have to deal with. I always point people to rescue or registered breeders, and whenever I state registered breeders and try to explain how good they are, people always say "oh but they are so expensive"...no matter what I say Any pointers on getting the message across, please? How serious are you when you think your own question is funny? I have no pointers for you as my morals and ethics would prevent me from working in a shop that sells animals in the first place. I think people who own such businesses know very well the source of their puppies. They are trading on misery. Occasional oops litter, my arse. Sorry if I offended you, you obviously haven't picked up yet that I am dead against selling puppies in pet stores, however I am on my last year of school and need money so I have to put moral ethics out of the way this year. So please don't think I'm someone who loves and supports puppy sales in pet shops. And I am dead serious about my question, but if you know me you'd know I like to lighten the mood by smiling or laughing, but if you'd rather me not, I won't. While I am earning money to get me through the year and still support my own dogs and give them the very best, I would quite like to educate the people who come into my work about how great purebred dogs from responsible breeders are.
  18. Thank you, this is exactly what I was trying to get across except you've done it 100x better!
  19. Is it sorks that was posting earlier saying that not all pet shops are evil? Because the point I was trying to get across was that no, they are not all evil, and some pups are treated a lot better than money making machines and have informed staff...however it is still not right as this cycle continues of not desexing the dog because the puppies will be cute and it's a great experience for the kids, when in reality there are so many poor things waiting in shelters to be rescued, and so many breeders who really put the hard yards into their pups. Despite working in a pet shop, I never reccommend anyone purchase pups from petstores or the paper.

  21. Just thought I'dd add my bit here, I work in a petshop and am well informed on breeds we get in, and the manager makes sure other staff are as well. In saying that, we only take in small breeds, and there is a 3 day cooling off period for puppy buyers. We do not buy from puppy farmers, just the odd 'oops' litter it seems, and only have in one litter about once a year. In saying this though, I would much rather that puppies were not sold in pet shops, as there are 'bad' ones out there, and there are ethical breeders who do so much hard work to improve breeds. I really believe though, that desexing, or even health testing of parents should be mandatory. All too often people buy a pup from the paper, it grows, and they decid to breed it because "it's cute". The cycle then continues. I have managed to convince many people to desex and not breed from their pets (thank god!). Please exuse this as it is written very messy, basically just whatever comes to the top of my head :p I wish there was a simple solution but that's just not the case
  22. Great way to go Arcane I just get so disapointed by these ads, there was one in the paper here saying "male french bulldog wanted to breed with a cute girl. Possibly another frenchie or a boston or bulldog". Not the exact words but went along the lines of that. Oh god, if only these people knew...education is the main tool in these cases
  23. At the same time, I don't think you 'have' to meet the breed to know wether it is 'the one' or not. I just did a tonne of research into schipperkes as I couldn't find any up here, contacted my breeder of choice, got my boy, and perfect dog for me :) So don't fret if there is are no boston terriers around, but meeting one could be an advantage. I met one on my trip to Brisbane last year, it was a 7 year old and lived in the holiday house I stayed however only properly met it once. She loved my schip and they played for a fair bit, she seemed active but cuddly. They do seem quite terrier-like as huga said  Such a lovely breed, I am very fond of them
  24. Have read through this whole thread, and am so disheartened to hear about Bailey's passing, RIP Bailey Owey, my condolences to you and your family at this hard time, no one should have to suffer from something so hard, not the puppy, not the children, not you, not anyone. Please know that Bailey was so blessed to have you both, you obviously cared for him so much and did all you could, but unfortunately it was just not meant to be. Hopefully one day you can get another from a registered breeder to heal your hearts and give you years of joy
