  1. Thanks for that Ellz... I was sorta on the same page but just couldnt help but wonder...you have helped clear that up for me so thanks again! We do have different surnames so Ive entered such into the boxes and it shows correctly so thats good to know. Entries to our first show were sent off today so exciting! We got a month to keep working on stacking etc and weekly show training!! So far so good unless theres distraction which is going to prove challenging in the ring but shes in baby puppy so shes allowed to be a little naughty. Her one and only chance in Baby puppy before she moves up a class.
  2. G'day, Im hoping someone might be able to help. I am a newbie...about to enter our first show. Im trying to use Show Manager and I have it all figured out except for one thing. We have a dual membership for our puppy so how or what do I put into the "name of registered owner"? When editing "my details" it has a box for the surname and one for the given name but not for two (dual membership). Should I for eg put into the Surname box - "Mr A Smith &" and then in the Given name box put "Ms A Smith" so that it combines both on the entry form to print out? (our CCC(Q) t/a Dogs Queensland reads for eg, "Mr A Smith & Ms A Smith") From my understanding, the details entered need to be exactly the same as those found on the membership card/registration papers. Does all that even make sense? Finally, while im here... Im entering my puppy (beagle 4 months) into Class 1(a). Is this correct? And also Baby Puppy Sweepstakes. I still am a little confused over the classes and groups etc. Thanks for any help....its highly appreciated.
  3. I hope you get it back too! We just got our first show dog...and when the breeder was giving us tips and hints etc...she told us its very common for things to go missing! I just cant believe people are like that!
  4. Oh thats a shame... We were wanting to enter the Caboolture show but missed the deadline (we found out about it on the day entries "closed"). Was hoping it would be our first time in the show ring....but not to worry. Unfortunately, we made other plans already, thinking because it had closed there was no chance. We were going to go to Maryborough this weekend too...just to observe (plus the breeder we got our puppy from is showing there) but after a hard week, we decided against that long day journey too. I hope that everyone that goes has a good time with good results etc!! We wanted to go to show training tonight for the first time but now we are not sure. Its raining and theres thunder and lightning and we dont know if its still on. Of course theres no site or details I can find on how to find out if its still on....and we dont wanna make the 1 hour drive to get there and discover its been cancelled or something. I don't know how it works. Im beginning to think we are just not meant to show.
  5. Buffy, at 15 weeks always goes to the same pee spot..100% of time. She refuses to accept a designated poop spot tho leave little gifts where she pleases. This doesnt bother me too much.....at least she is going outside and has been accident free (inside) for 3 weeks now.
  6. G'day, I was hoping someone could give me some information about Show Dog training in Brisbane. My understanding is there is training held at Durack however I can't seem to find anything concrete about it...perhaps im looking in the wrong places. What age can a puppy start show training...how much is it...where and what time etc? Any and all information is highly appreciated!
  7. 4 databases? When a dog is microchipped is it automatically registered with the 4 databases or just one? And if its just one, how does one go about registering with others? We travel alot, sometimes for a while and being on all 4 data bases would put my mind at more rest in case something went wrong.
  8. I am with Medibank private however can't really comment as I have not had to make a claim yet....although I am about to put in a claim for routine care (which comes with my plan) which I suspect and hope it will go through without an issue. I went with them for a few reasons. I found the price fair for what I was covered for. Up to 100% cover. I like being covered for up to $15000 a year with only a $100 excess. It comes with Routine Care which covers a certain amount for things like vaccinations, council rego, desexing, training, flea and worming control etc. Its about $120 a year, all up that it will reimburse to cover such things. (about $70 for dental and training and desexing etc and about $50 for worming etc). Otherwise, I liked the policy in regards to aging dogs and the fact that I got a discount for being a Medibank Private customer already. I hope you can come to your decision easier than what I did when searching for the right insurance company that suited me....I found it all so confusing etc! Fingers crossed that if I ever need them to pull through after some serious vet costs, they do so without much drama etc. There are so many insurance horror stories out there!
  9. I personally couldnt and wouldnt. I moved interstate and while away, adopted a baby ferret/kit. After about 5 years interstate, I longed to return to QLD to be with family and friends after being diagnosed with Luekaemia and a brain tumor. As ferrets are not allowed in QLD, I couldnt move until he had lived his life and he lived to be 8 and a half years old (most ferrets are lucky to get to 7) Well, I could move....but I choose not to as when I adopted him, I did so on the terms that I was giving him a forever home with me. With that said though, im the sort of person that will put any of my pets before my own needs and desires.....even my goldfish! hehehe
  10. I am in QLD and I purchased my puppy from a registered breeder on the main registry but found out on collection day that I needed to microchip myself. Im still waiting on papers (but have called for registration number) as the breeder had to wait until we had all given her our microchip details. I dont know if it was right or wrong as everything I read is conflicting. I think it depends on different councils...well thats what I got from it anyway. It does say that it will be a statewide law by the end of the year..councils have until then to update policies etc.
  11. It is great to read your story cause it gives me hope with Buffy the Beagle....who I believe is challenging Daisy for the Evil Beagle title. She started training really well but is now showing her stubborn side at 12 weeks of age. I was almost in tears during her last 2 puppy school classes as she was also the naughtiest dog in the class (but started as one of the best). Last night, she wasn't even interested in treats even after being fasted for training. Not only was she naughty but then I couldnt train with her during those last two classes and couldnt even hear the trainer over her whining and barking etc. Got a little frustrated last night too as the trainer was working with dogs that already were on the right track with loose lead walking yet I didnt even get to take a step with Buffy. I think he worked one on one with every dog except Buffy no doubt cause he didnt want Buffy to make him seem like a bad trainer lol. She graduated last night though...I still dont know how! lol Hope Daisy had a great birthday....somehow I get the feeling she would have been spoiled rotten!
  12. I use 3/4 home made barf and 1/4 Eaglepack (for training and nights/weekends away from home)
  13. G'day all, Was hoping some of you might share your experience and knowledge.. I was hoping you could tell me the approx size of a premium dog food biscuit. I use Eaglepack puppy so am aware of the size of that but am very interested in knowing more about the other brands, without having to purchase it just to find out! You help is highly appreciated!
  14. Was wondering if anyone in Brissy knows of a good Sunday Markets that allows dogs? We usually go the Markets on the Sunshine Coast but arnt going to be up that way this week but was still hoping to get my puppy out there for some socialization.
  15. My understanding was if you treated a dog with heartworming meds AND the dog was infected by ADULT heartworms, it can be deadly. It takes about 6 months for a heartworm to mature into an adult. It was explained to me thats why its best to get a puppy on meds (if needed) before six months, otherwise a test would need to be performed.
  16. Oh well heres hoping all the other owners do get their puppies microchipped!!! I am in touch with two other owners, out of 5. I know these two have or are getting their pups microchipped. Im just going to stay concerned now! I can't help but feel like its all a little dodgy (and illegal) and this itself greatly disappoints and worries me. I guess I will just give the breeder the benefit of the doubt for now and see what happens. Buffy is here to stay no matter what...show dog or not, she was always going to be a pet first and she won our hearts on day one but considering I have paid about 200 more than the other owners with puppies on or to be on a limited registry (they inform me), I wanna make sure I get what I paid for. Thanks everyone for all the information offered here.....am learning alot!
  17. Ahhh ok, well thanks for that info. Makes me feel a little better about it all (getting papers etc) but it does concern me that she didnt microchip the puppies before sending them off to their new homes. I didnt know a Pedigree would come from Dogs QLD too, I thought the one she gave me was it. Like I said, it looked all official like and was signed etc. I thought Dogs QLD would send out other papers, registration papers or something. (as you can see im still new to this all) I don't mind at all that I have to do it but yeah, still sorta concerning. I might get her microchipped this week I think and then she can go back in a few weeks for round 2 of vaccinations. At least that way I might get my papers quicker and put my mind at complete ease. It might also be less stressful for Buffy, my Pup. Cause I certainly wouldnt like 2 needles within half an hour or so. Even more so if this microchip needle is as big as the breeder suggested it was. Overall, until I found this out, I thought she was a great breeder...and I guess I still do. Surprised however that shes broken the law.
  18. Well im hoping because she asked that the microchipping details be forwarded on to her that it means the papers will still come. Do breeders have a certain amount of time to register a litter/puppies?? (im getting main register so I can show and I guess depending on the outcome of that, she could be bred later in life.)
  19. The breeder didnt rehome the puppies at 6 weeks. I was the first to adopt from the litter and I did so at 8 weeks. She just said that she didnt agree with microchipping them at 6 weeks like most because she felt it wasnt good on the pup, She suggested I do it when I take her for her 12 week vaccination but when I was telling a friend such, thats when they expressed that they thought that 1- It's illegal to sell a pup that hasn't been microchipped and that by law you have to have it done before the pup is 12 weeks old... hence my confusion. As far as I know, the breeder doesn't advertise on here but to be honest I havent really looked. I found her on the Bealge Association of QLD's website. I didnt know the pedigree papers that she gave me are useless, so to speak. They were all signed etc so I assumed they were legit. All puppies apart from mine were to be registered don the limited registry...do limited registered puppies get papers too? If so I can ask one of the other adopters (who found me on facebook via the breeders page) if they have papers or microchipping etc. Gotta say im getting really concerned...even more so if its illegal to sell a puppy that hasnt been microchipped.
  20. A compost Cage? Sounds, um, interesting hehehe. Cant say I have ever heard of such a thing but thanks for the heads up! Just happens too that I have a bunnings gift card waiting to be used!
  21. G'day all, I see many "crate" threads but I need to buy a playpen and was hoping that some of you might like to offer some recommendations on where to buy for a good price, good size etc. I have seen a few various ones over the years and would prefer one that is pretty solid. Some I have seen are pretty thin etc. Any help would be highly appreciated.
  22. Oh so I wouldnt get my papers (I do have the pedigree papers however) until I have her microchipped? The breeder did ask me to forward the microchip details on to her once I had them. So by law, the breeder can sell a pup without microchipping?
  23. Hey all, was wondering... Can anyone tell me the law regarding microchipping in QLD? I recently got a puppy on the main registry (yet to get papers) and the breeder said she didnt microchip because she felt, for a 6 week old puppy, that the needle was too big and she said its best to have it done around 12 weeks. At the time I thought nothing of it.. But now people are telling me that by law, they should have been microchipped before being rehomed. Ive looking online but am finding all the information about such conflicting.. Am hoping someone here might be able to clarify it for me. I could be being silly, but after reading many stories on here about adopters being scammed by breeders in regards to papers etc, I cant help but be a little concerned as im yet to get my papers and now with this conflicting microchipping information, the concern level is rising. Could be unjustified though...from what I know shes a respected Beagle breeder. I found her on the QLD Beagle site. I might just be being a worrywart. Thanks for any info you can help me with.
  24. Sounds like a facebook group is needed lol They seem to be effective these days in raising awareness in a persons wrong doing.
  25. Thanks for your replies!! She actually has a vet appointment this Friday...just to be checked over and so I can talk to them about flea and tick and worming preventions etc as im having a hard time getting my head around all the products etc. She will see the vet again in 3 weeks to get next vaccination and I have to microchip her too as the breeder said she hates micro chipping them so early as the needle is so big and suggested we get it done just before she is 12 weeks. I guess then I will get some results from her tests shes having this Friday. I dont know what tests are being done in a vet check but I know I have to take a stool sample in. Otherwise, it sounds like im experiencing exactly what Bundys mum has experienced. I did think that was the problem at first or that I was praising her too early and then distracting her frmo finishing properly so now I stay out there longer and dont praise her until I know she has finished...well...think she has finished. I thought that was the problem at first as the next day there were no accidents....but then today its back to the former. Seems to be one day perfect, the next day far from. She has never pooped inside. Thats a good thing. I guess I just want to ensure I am doing nothing wrong in regards to her toilet training. I know its not her fault she is doing this so of course I wonder what I am doing wrong. I know shes not playing head games with me, I was just trying to be funny. FAIL hehehe
