Yep, you are indeed.

Oh thankyou Miss B... Just what I wanted and needed to hear!! I do believe (even more now with your info) that this is going to be the perfect option for me at this time. Thanks again! *edit - I too had planned on using the side walls as well but just wanted to ensure that I could have privacy by closing up the front door.

So would one not be able to set up an "inner tent" under the Gazebo near ringside or would you be expected to move the Gazebo to the camping area? Not that it would be much of an issue but of course would be more convenient to not have to move it?
-
Yeah well that would be ideal however isnt really possible for us. For one we dont even have a tow ball (or car capable of towing much) and we certainly dont have the money to invest in a caravan anytime soon but would be something we would hope to get one day if we got right into the show circuit (which we no doubt will as im already addicted after our first and only show) We will be getting a new car/wagon this year so will have to make sure we get one that could tow a caravan! You have raised another question though...Im guessing theres no real shower facilities at shows (with camping)? I assume there would be toilet facilities though?

G'day everyone... Hoping someone can help me with something specific.....as well as some general tips and tricks for camping at shows... Firstly....does anyone have a Oztrail Inner Tent Kit?? If so...does it offer full privacy?? We are getting conflicting information....the camping store said that the doors are only mesh so doesnt offer full privacy...but the windows have mesh and a cover which can be rolled down if needed for ventilation etc. Some people are saying that the door also has mesh but covers also to offer privacy etc. Also, how does the camping work. Is there a separate section for camping or is one able to camp under the Gazebo which would be set up near ring side? Any other tips etc for camping at a show would be highly appreciated!! Do some come with power or not....is it ok to have a generator or are they too noisy etc. What couldnt you live without for camping at shows etc...any info and experiences would be great!!!

Thanks for that Erin... I wondered because I saw you pick yours up at the Caboolture show and then we picked them up at the Durack one too. \The last show didnt request a SAE and neither did this upcoming Burnett one but I included them all the same as was unsure if it was just standard or not. Im sure with the Combined one they just sent it back with receipt because it was there to use. I think I will always just include one...requested or not. I called the show secretary yesterday and was confirmed that my entry was received and that numbers were going to be sent out this week so im glad I included a SAE even though the schedule didnt say anything about one from memory. I was just concerned this time round as I didnt get entry in until last days before closing.....and would hate to travel the few hours to the show only to find out my entry wasnt received and we were not entered or something. I will make more of an effort to get them in earlier in the future but as you know, December was a full on month with the Brain Op and we didnt know what was going to happen. You going to the Burnett one by any chance? Im really looking forward to it...we are camping the night too as its a 2 day show. Been busy preparing...buying a tent (inner tent for Gazebo) and some other basic camping supplies. I didnt even think to see if the cheque had been cashed and as it turned out, it hasnt yet so wont rely on that. Thanks again all for your help and advise!!

Yeah going to give the sec a call a little later today Closing was about the 12th of Dec from memory...the show itself is just over 2 weeks away. The last two shows I went to (only one of which I was entered) numbers etc were collected on the day by everyone...I thought that was standard. As you can see im still learning lots. But had wondered in general too how one knew that an entry was received and confirmed. Thanks again for your help all.
-
Ahhh of course, didnt even think to see if cheque had been cashed in and it appears it hasnt. I think I will give them a call tomorrow. I know its a busy time of the year but yeah, we gotta prepare for the show in a couple of weeks and I wanna get sorted. thanks again for your help.

G'day fellow exhibitors (and other dog lovers) We have only been in the one show to date, and a week or so after sending the entry off for it, they sent a receipt back, in the self addressed envelope that I provided with the entry and payment. This confirmed for me that the entry was received and we were good to go. Ive entered my second show and the entry was sent off a few weeks ago but I havent heard anything back. (was sent in the last few days before the cut off date by express post) Is it common practice that your entry is confirmed, perhaps via the above method? (or by some other way?) As the next show far away, I would hate to arrive only to find out we were not entered because of some reason.....eg, entry lost in the mail or something? I know I can call the show secretary but thought I would ask on here first before jumping the gun and making the call to make sure the entry was received ok. Thanks in advance for any advise etc offered!! Eden.

I could not imagine leaving my pets during an evacuation. I would either be getting out early if there was a serious risk of an emergency (like flooding) or would be one of those that wouldnt leave unless the pets could come. If the house was on fire, I could even see myself risking my own life to ensure my babies lives were safe. Of course this is easy enough said...I have never found myself in any evacuation situation (and would hope I never would ) but I would like to think that the above would still happen under such a stressful situation.

My little one gets some Iams puppy kibble in the morning, sometimes with some egg, yogurt or sardines mixed thru it. Eventually we plan to take her off dry food almost completely but still want her to "like" it for when we go for weekends away etc where it might not be as practical to have raw food. In the evening she gets some barf and depending on her activity levels during the day, a chicken neck or wing or lambs neck chop (if thats what its called). As she has also been teething (which I think is finished now or at least almost finished), shes been getting a frozen carrot or a frozen chicken neck in an ice block for lunch. For her daily training, I use beef or lamb liver or heart or brain (which I lightly boil myself to make for easier cutting and handling but its still mostly raw). And of course she gets a little people food too (all dog friendly of course). We eat dinner rather late....usually around 9:30 or so and although she has her dinner around 6pm, we give her a little people food after we have finished eating as suggested by trainers and behavioural therapists. Am told it helps her understand we are her pack leaders and I must admit, since we started this practice, she leaves us alone while eating as she knows when we are done she will get some (usually some peas or beans, pumpkin and maybe some carved roast meat or BBQ'd chicken or something, depending what we eat for dinner that night, but only a very small portion) As she is a show dog....and a beagle (who will eat and eat and eat), we watch her weight and food intake carefully.

Sadly I am not so creative when it comes to a prefix name...so am no help there. All I can say is I have heard of some really interesting ones and some that have made me think...."how on earth did they come up with that?!" and I dont mean to "hijack" a thread but have always wondered about a few things in regards to prefix names.. What would make a prefix name get rejected upon application? (apart from it already being used of course) I often hear or people not getting their first or second preference so couldnt help but wonder. And someone above mentioned the shorter the better...may I ask why? Its not like I need a prefix name myself anytime soon (or ever maybe) but couldn't help but wonder.

Im surprised considering theres more storms and rain forecasted this Friday and Saturday! Hopefully because we had a few days of no rain (or very little) that things are a little drier up that way. Good luck everyone going...im sure its going to be great fun! EDIT - Friend in Maryborough has just told me that forecast has been changed with storms and rain more likely to be early next week now..not on weekend!!

Heres my Baby.... Well she aint a baby no more I guess but she recently won Baby Puppy of Group (our first ever show for both her and I) Shes onto Minor puppy now!

We had our first show a couple of weeks ago and in the days leading up to the show...and on the day itself, it was wet and muddy. Even though we washed her and concentrated on her white feet to get rid of the mud stains, they wouldnt totally wash out. Even after washing again the next morning, on the day of the show. Upon getting to the show and while waiting around for our go, I went to look at the cart selling leads and show supplies etc. I came across Plush Puppy Wonder Wash (self rinsing shampoo) and as I saw it needed no water to rinse off, I thought I would buy it and give it a go in trying to get her feet a little cleaner. All I can say is it worked wonders in removing the stain AND seemed to make her white, whiter than ever. I think a lot of that would be the fact that it is purple in color which I understand can help fade the yellow and bring out the white in hair/coats. Was easy to use...simply spray on...work into a lather and then dry off. Sorry if its already been mentioned...I just came across this thread and thought I would share my experience.. now to have fun reading back and seeing some other great tips in grooming etc before a show!

Another question if I may.......and also a show manager related one.. After the success of our first show this month, we want to enter another in January. Its one that runs over two days allowing camping at $8 a night. One show is on Saturday 4pm+ the other on Sunday 8am+. Catalogue $3. To confirm, I would enter an entry form in for each show, each day...so 1 entry form for 2(a) and 1 entry forms for Puppy SS for the one day and 1 entry form for 2(a) and 1 entry form for Puppy SS for the second day....totalling 4 entry forms? Also, the schedule says Catalogue is $3. Is this 3 dollars total or do I need to pay for 2...1 for each day? (or will it be the same catalogue for each day) Finally, we want to camp due to the distance from home and the fact theres 2 days/whole weekend. It says $8 a night. Logically, we would want one night, the Saturday night so that we could relax after that days events and be there ready to go for Sundays. However it made me wonder....would people be camping the Friday night in prep for the first show on Saturday 4pm onwards? How does camping at shows work exactly? Do you get a camping slot you must use or is it much like first in best dressed like with the Gazebos? (as we have an inner tent insert for our gazebo and would no doubt zip ourselves into that for the evening...would sorta suck if we had to move gazebo to a designated camping area). I understand that camping conditions etc would no doubt differ in each location but if anyone could pass on some basic and general show camping experiences etc that would be fantastic! Tips etc. Also, how does one list this camping cost onto the show manager entry forms? Under sundries? Thanks in advance for any and all advise etc offered!

Hitting The Ring For The First Time
Edenishy replied to angelsophie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just a quick update as we didnt get back from the show until late last night and we are about to head up to the Rainy Coast...I mean Sunshine Coast. Buffy yesterday won Baby Puppy Beagle (by default as no one else was in her class) and then went on to win Best of Group!! (hence the late night, waiting around for best Baby puppy of Show) A fantastic result for our first ever show...we are so proud of our little girl!! Enjoy your Sunday people!! We are going to, no matter how wet and rainy it is up here atm. I have Brain surgery on Tuesday so gotta enjoy while I can! -
Hitting The Ring For The First Time
Edenishy replied to angelsophie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well.....today is the day. Our first ever show.....the Combined CCC show at Durack. Shes all groomed and ready to go...although I am a little concerned about her white paws. The weather here has been pretty wet over the last few days and as a result, her paws are looking a little stained...we have washed and washed them but we cant seem to totally get rid of it. Not even with a shampoo made for white dogs (we only used on her legs and paws basically) Otherwise I think we are ready to go. Lots of grooming supplies for last min touch ups (trimming scissors, a couple of show leads, brushes...our number holder etc.) We even have a fancy new show trolley (which I pimped up) and a brand new Gazebo to protect us from this constant rain and drizzle we are having. It's 3am, I should be sleeping but I can't (but it isnt related to todays show). Wish us luck...we are as nervous as hell! To be honest, we dont expect to win anything...we are entered in the Baby Puppy Sweepstakes and Class 1(a). Still have so much to learn and I guess we will as we go along. Show training has been great though and I must say that most of the Show Beagle owners have been of such a huge help. It's also a little more comforting that the breeder of our pup will be there too...showing our pups brother. Wish us luck! Will keep you all updated on how we go. -
I am currently nursing a very swollen ankle which hurts like hell however I cannot really blame my puppy...although she did play a part in it. I was coming back from the pool and instead of walking around the garden, down to the patio, I jumped across the herb/vegie garden, like I usually do, and proceeded to jump down the retaining wall but as I did, my puppy decided to do the same thing and to avoid jumping on her I had to change direction, mid air, which in turn lead me to come down on my ankle quite hard. I didnt even know an ankle could bend sideways at a 90 degree angle!!

Can you adjust the opening on the wobbler, like on the Bob-a-lot?

I didnt even know there were Auctions on here until now! Thats cool!! Shame I missed out on the above one though.

Although I didnt use them for anything dog related....when in Adelaide (Unley) my vet was Glenside Vet on Greenhill Road and I found them to be great. There was a really good vet in Mitcham on Wattle Ave but he has retired. It was sad when he did as he was the best vet I had ever dealt with anywhere. There was talk that the surgery would continue under a new vet (after a few months of being closed) but im not sure if that eventuated. It was the retired vet that suggested I use the Glenside Vet when he retired. I never used the Unley vet (across from the Boho) but have heard many great things about them too.

G'day everyone.. I have bought one of those nifty Dog trolleys, the type with the Blue matting on top and inside. Commonly seen at Dog shows etc (the reason why I bought one) Now I have this urge (and lots of time) to pimp it up. I have found myself some new matting....I really REALLY dislike the blue. Although I have worked with pop rivets before...theres something I hope someone can help me with. Hopefully someone will know what im talking about as I don't know the technical names of these little bits and pieces. On the top platform (as well as the bottom) there are two hinges that allow you to open the top so the trolley can be folded etc. Holding the hinges in place are these little metal things, a little like pop rivets but not. It goes from one side of the board to the other. One side of the fitting that holds the hinge in place is smooth and sorta looks a little like a drawing pin. The other side is the same but looks like a screw as it has the flat head screwdriver groove in it. (It wont unscrew though it seems) Does anyone know what these little pieces are so that I can remove the hinges to recover and then put back or replace? I was trying to explain them to someone at bunnings however I was getting nowhere. Also, how does one go about removing these pieces so the hinge can be removed? If I knew how to remove without damaging them or the trolley, I could take them to the store to find the right replacements. I know how to remove pop rivets however these dont have the little hole to drill into. I want to replace one of the hinges also as one is corroded a little, even though the unit is brand new. I know theres a few people out there that have had to recover the trolley's matting..how did you go about it? Remove the old first? Remove hinges or glue matting over the top? Ive already replaced the wheels to include locks. Im going to paint the wooden side of the platform to further seal it from the elements and to add some color. I wanted to replace the blue matting with red however couldnt find any for the life of me. I think I rang just about every possible local store possible. Im told there is red pyramid matting out there somewhere but its not coming out to play with me thats for sure! Anyone know how to make a grooming arm? Anyone else have any cool ideas on pimping a dog trolley? I am even thinking of installing some sort of solar light into it! Just trying to figure out how to do such where my puppy/dog wouldnt be able to access it etc but where it can still look professional in a way...as opposed to some tacky job. Like I mentioned, I have too much time on my hands. Am very interested in hearing peoples ideas etc!

Ahhh a cocker food bowl!! Thats going to make looking much easier! Thanks!
-
G'day everyone...hope all is well out there. Was wondering....does anyone know where I could find red pyramid matting (similar to the blue matting found on top of dog trolleys etc). I have found blue and grey and black and white so im hoping someone might know of a specific store and location on where I could find red. I have heard its out there but yeah....cant find any. It doesnt even have to be the pyramid sort....I would happile consider any red matting thats pretty durable and water resistant like the Pyramid stuff. Also, was hoping someone might know where I can get a dog food bowl, that has a narrow top and is deep. A bowl suitable for a dog with long dangly ears. When I give my Beagle for example, dry food with some sardines or yogurt mixed thru, her ears always hang into the food...getting quite dirty (or wet from water bowl). I dont expect a narrow and deep bowl to totally solve t he problem but it may help. Thanks for any help/advise you might be able to offer.
