Mouldy Sandwhich = Very Very Sick Pug
Genabee replied to MalteseLuna's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
That is supposed to be flowers for sick poochie from Genevieve... We are hoping for a full recovery for you. -
Well said!

You poor thing! It is so hard once you have bonded! But I agree with the previous posters... you will be able to bond with another dog and any deposit lost is going to be far less than the thousands of medical expenses you may be up for. And if he has a pre-existing complaint you may not even qualify for pet insurance (which you would want if you took home this pup). Also, the idea of the breeder picking a pup for you doesn't sit too well with me.... I'd be finding another breeder altogether. The fact they are even contemplating sending this pup in such a condition to a new home, isn't having the pups best interests at heart at all.

COngratulations!! Nothing like a new baby in the family! ;)

What Do You Use To Walk Your Dog And Why?
Genabee replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was told this when we went to buy for Genevieve. We ended up buying a collar, leach and harness pack. We've never put the harness on her though, as for puppy school it wasn't allowed - we had to use the flat collar and leash. We have just kept up with this and she walks fine on a leash for most of the time. With our family dog Aurora, she was on a choker chain for years and was always trying to get ahead. We changed her to a harness after about 7 years and all of a sudden she walks normally!!!!! If only we had known that 7 years earlier! I think different methods work for different dogs. -
I can't help you with a signature, but your pooches are soooooo cute!!!

We have a Cavvie, and decided to go with the breed as they were recommended to us by a few sources as being one of the best breeds to have around babies, which was a BIG priority for us. The fabulous breeder we bought her from was very helpful in regards to this and had her grandchildren around all the time when the pups were very little (I read this a lot in the various advertisements for the breed too), so I would be surprised if you had a hard time finding a breeder who wouldn't sell you one, just because you have small children! Like any pup, she can be excited, but so far she has been pretty good around kids and other people. Obviously we don't leave her with a little person unsupervised, but often she gets over the excitement and goes and puts herself in her crate! We tend to find little people are more curious of her, than she is them. I imagine though that your children would get over the excitement of having her there pretty quickly, as she would be there all the time! She does like attention though. Her favourite thing to do is snuggle on the couch with us!! She loves going for walks when she can, but if we miss a day, its not the end of the world either. She is the perfect size for a dog that lives inside. They also don't need massive yards, happy enough in a small court yard if that is all you have. So far we haven't had too much of an issue with her coat, she gets a brush once or twice a week, a bath every few weeks - she is also pretty easy to bath, scoop her up into the trough! She has been easy enough to train and will do anything for food, which long term is a bonus. That being said, we find she is intelligent so we keep trying to teach her new tricks to keep her mind active. We haven't had any issues with leaving her at home when we go to work either. I love the breed and would highly recommend it to a family with children. To me they seem like the all round perfect family pet.

Dogs That Sleep In The House - Question On Times
Genabee replied to JulesP's topic in General Dog Discussion
I get home from work about 9.30pm and she goes to the toilet and has dinner (in that order) about then. We then have a play which eventuates into a nap on the couch. I usually toilet her as I am going to bed around 11pmish. She sleeps through until about 7am. She has been known to sleep past 8am though. I take her out to the toilet and then either leave her to play and go back to bed, or migrate to the lounge room, where we both snuggle up and snooze together! Up until now I have put her to bed in the laundry, but after reading some of your posts I think maybe I should consider putting her in our bedroom. When she wakes in the morning, I take her outside but usually she is so excited to see me, it is more about being interested in playing with me, not going to the toilet. She now runs straight to the lounge room door once I let her in, in the hope that is where we are going! So maybe I would get more sleep if she was close by... I like my sleep and I have to say the late nights and early mornings are a bit trying (pre dog I would go straight to bed as soon as I walked in the door and slept until about 8.30am). Lucky for me I don't start work until the afternoons, so I usually get a mid morning nap, as that is when she tends to go back to sleep. How much sleep do dogs actually need in a day? -
So I gave Genevieve and egg last night with some kibble. I semi cracked the egg over her kibble. What no one warned me about, was her sudden desire to run around the house with egg shell in her mouth, dripping egg white/yolk everywhere!!!!! Personal note to self, feed her eggs outside!! She did enjoy it though. And it was funny to watch - she ate all the kibble from around it first. Then used her paw to tap the egg... then proceeded to lick it (slowly at first) and then.... picked it up and ran with it! After leaving a mess all over the floor, she went back to her bowl and licked up what was left!

I love the little booster seat you have for Emmy!!! It is soooooo cute! I should get one for G. Where did you buy it? I find the radio helps to keep G quiet. She unzipped herself out of her crate when I had that in the car. So I tied her lead to the head rests and she laid down on the passenger seat... Usually though I put her in the rear end of the car. I find her too distracting otherwise. I have a 4WD and the rear section is just a bit bigger than her crate. I put her in there with a blanket and a toy, she is fine. car booster (click on dog travel section area) I got the booster chair from these guys although right now, I think they are out of stock because it's not on the website. They do have real fancy booster chairs though (if you are willing to fork out extra $$) I saw some booster seats for dogs in Big W the other week though, it's not the same as the one I have for my 2.. but it's very similar Awesome!!! Thanks so much for that! I really think they are a good idea... Do you know (or anyone else who uses them) how well they would fit with a baby capsule/car seat in the car too? It's depends on what car you have and how big your booster seat is going to be I suppose in reality I wouldn't have the dog and a baby in the back of the car at the same time! Just in case anyone out there thinks I could end up being an irresponsible parent....

What a fantastic idea!!!!!!

Hasn't worked in our house. Genevieve gets bored with it after about 2 minutes and it doesn't make a difference what I put in it. Other people have had great success though! I am sure someone will post about their positive results!

Ikea used to be good for gates. Not sure if they still have the range that they used to though....

So do I!!! They sound like such beautiful little dogs. And you are definitely one dedicated owner!!! Brownie points to you!

Do Your Dogs Sleep/snuggle Up Together?
Genabee replied to Magstar's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wish I had two dogs.... All your pictures are so cute! I have one and she snuggles up to us!! She stalks us until such time as we are ready to retire to the couch. And she has started this new thing of waking up way too early in the morning and won't go back to sleep after being toileted. So... Now having made a rod for my own back, I get out of bed and snuggle on the lounge and go back to sleep - and so does she! Most mornings I can get up to another three hours out of her! I have to admit I do like snoozing with her! -
My husband wanted 'a real dog' as he put it (as in a big one!! Not a 'fluffy' one like I wanted), but once I bombarded him with all the research on why the breed was good for us, including the size of the house, living arrangements, potential kids etc. he changed his tune. Now the way he carries on anyone would think it was all his idea!! AND, doesn't want her to grow any bigger as he likes that he can scoop her up!!! Whatever they go with, they need to address all these things... otherwise they could end up with a dog that drives them crazy, because it didn't fit to begin with. What about a beagle or a jack russell? They were other potentials for us... ruled out because of our need for it to be toddler friendly (not so great for the JR) and we ruled the beagle out because our courtyard isn't big enough. They need more roaming space than we could give.

Try to expose them to people who will ignore them and not "fuss" over them. Very hard to do practically! Practice having their attention focussing on you (using a treat/reward) as you walk by other people. Reward every time they don't try and go to the person/dog but instead are focussed ahead or on you. This is one of those things though that are easier said than done. Puppies are naturally social and will want to say hi to other people or at least investigate them... And let's be honest, people want to investigate a cute little pup!! I have found it to be more about neutralising other people, not the dog! That is another thing, be confident in your parenting and don't be afraid to ask people to wait until pooch is calm before patting or simply telling them flat out no. Patting a hyper puppy is like rewarding your toddler for jumping on the couch after you have told them not to! The more people do it, the more hyper she will be.

They sound like they are in a similar situation to myself and OH. We have a Cavalier King Charles and she fits beautifully with us. She loves her walks on the days she gets them, but not the end of the world if we miss a day. Has been easy enough to train and is VERY people orientated. We leave her at home for about 6 hours a day on average (some days are longer), and she is fine. She loves to snuggle up on the couch with me at the end of the day! Also, great breed to have with kids if that is on the horizon for them. I guess she might be a bit smaller than a medium dog though. And she does need a brush once a week or so. But she loves to chase after a ball!!!

Oh, poor Charlie! Is it as horrible as the abstract on the report sounds?

That is so cute!!! That is my favourite thing to do, cuddle up on the couch with the dog!

Maybe they could be movie stars together!!!
