  1. I looked into this as I thought it would be great fun to do.... but it is so far away from my house and I have to work the night that the class is held! So we are settling for obedience instead!! Have a fabulous time and good luck!!!
  2. Apparently she didn't like her new hair cut... So she took it out on the garden. I don't think the petunias agreed either.
  3. Any chance Charlie can teach Genevieve the art of sleeping in?
  4. hi puppybreath Puppy Etiquette is run by our local trainer. Its just the name she chose. She is a Delta person and is excellent, she also trains service dogs and medical assistance dogs. So unless you happen to live in Wagga NSW you probably don't have access to Puppy etiquette BUT what you can do is research the puppy training classes in your area. In fact maybe the puppy playschool in your area is excellent (its just that a lot of them were the way I described it above) Maybe your local training club has a great puppy training class. what I would look for in a puppy class would be: * the use of mainly positive, reward based methods (they should tell you to bring heaps and heaps of treats with you.) * focus on training as well as socialisation (but where the puppies are just allowed to run around together doing craazy stuff! at puppy etiquette the puppies actually weren't allowed off lead at all and the focus was on getting them to focus on you even though there are other dogs about) * you want to see that the trainer can change methods for different puppies and give advise specific to your puppy. * look for a class that actually teaches a lots of things (or atleast gives you the foundation for all your basic training. At puppy etiquette we did sit, stand, drop, stay, give, loose leash walking, 'leave it', bed command, 'watch me', sit from a distance, recall, and more things that I can't quite remember. She also talked about how to socialise your puppy correctly... and that sort of thing anyway that's just my advise of what I would look for :D I was lucky and got a good class the first time around, and we too covered all of the above and no pup was allowed off the leash. The place I went to actually taught dog trainers and he also worked with sniffer dogs etc. I have heard of stories and met people who have taken their dogs to 'puppy classes', yet their dog won't even sit on command. Definitely pays to find the right one. Because IMO, a class where all those things is covered not only teaches puppy, but also you. Having raised a puppy before I thought I would be pretty on it, but I found so much had changed and this class was far more beneficial to me this time around, than the obedience I did with the last dog. I really would have liked to do another round and had my husband attend, but unfortunately we couldn't get it to happen. If there is another person in your life who is likely to be spending a lot of time with the dog during their formative period, I would strongly encourage them to attend the classes too. I found it difficult to get my husband to conform to how we were doing things when he came home, 5 weeks into routine. Had he been there from the start, I think things would have been a bit smoother for Genevieve. The RSPCA offer puppy school and junior manners. I am not sure how good/reputable the classes are as I have not been. But it could be a starting point.
  5. Is Emmy a pink girl by any chance? I think she may have a bit in common with Genevieve! I love the paws on it!
  6. Genevieve always has her nose under something... Often it will be under my shirt or down my pants when we are on the couch! I will try to get a pic of her next time she does it! They are some awesome pictures people!!! :D
  7. OMG too cute!!1 They are even laying the same way!!!
  8. Look on the Dr Phil website... It was pretty horrible to watch. I laughed when Paris said she wanted to punch that guy in the face!!!! Only she could get away with it! The clip of the dog in the elevator... he was so little and so cute and that brute... he should be shot. The dog wasn't even doing anything!!!! He was just sitting there!!!! No act of self defense there! No excuse.
  9. Just came on to post the same thing!
  10. Hello, I used to live in Perth and one of the best vets we could find (my parents still use and my sister now also uses, after a couple of disasterous attempts elsewhere) is 'My Best Friend Vet Clinic' in Leederville (end of Oxford Street). We went through a few vets before coming across this one. They don't charge the earth, are very good at explaining all your options to you and don't push things on to you and your dog. And I've never seen an animal in there that hasn't acted like it was a party and the staff love them!!! Off the top of my head I don't think they do grooming there (but they may have changed). A good groomer is 'Designer Dogs' in Michael Street in Yokine. Mindy, the lady that owns the place, is very thorough. I know she goes the extra mile and does things like checks their anal glands, plucks inside their ears if they need it and is very good at getting in between their paws. A couple of times she drew our attention to minor issues with Aurora (maltese x shit zu), that we were able to nip in the bud. Again, we have used other groomers, but we ended up going back to Mindy as other groomers weren't as thorough. And she always came home looking and smelling beautiful and was a happy dog! You will need to book in quick with her though, as she is popular. As has already been suggested, I would try to give her a bath at home, then go to the vet. I don't know if I would be taking her to a groomer without confirming she is fully vaccinated, as she is likely to mingle with other dogs, where she may catch something if she isn't fully immunised. I hope you are able to have the little one all cleaned up and have a new friend for life! Edited to add: I re-read your post and realised you live in Kinross. I know Yokine/Leederville is a bit of a hike for you. I'm not familiar with vet clinic that way, but I am sure there are some good ones!!
  11. 24 hours seems to be it in our house... I guess it depends on how much of what has been consumed and therefore how long it takes for it to get out of the system. Hope we are feeling better soon!!
  12. Genevieve was done at 16 weeks. I dropped her off in the morning and hubby picked her up that night. He phoned me at work to tell me "It's probably good that I was the one to pick her up. She looks like she is on smack!". As you can imagine, I was somewhat upset that my baby was so out of it! My husband tells me she was asleep most of the evening, but when she heard me pull up in the drive way, she couldn't get to the front door fast enough!! Tail was wagging - where was this dog on smack OH was on about??!! He said "It's not fair, she doesn't love me, she only loves you". - Well, don't you want your Mum when you are sick?!! She was jumping around like a crazy thing the next morning, and nothing stopped her from getting to her food! We tried to prevent her from jumping around, but I gave up after a day. I figured if she hurt herself, she wouldn't do it again! Her wound remained clean and we had the stitches out about 10 days later. I think I expected it to be worse than it was.
  13. I don't have children just yet either (working on it!), but I wanted to get a puppy so that she could grow up with our children. I think it is important for kids to have a pet... it is often the first 'person' they really love and trust and often the first 'person' they have to say good bye to. I would rather my kids lose a pet and have to learn the realities of grief the first time through a pet, rather than a family member or close friend. I believe dogs teach us valuable life lessons. I hope your new addition brings you hours of joy and happiness and may your new fury friend be the best friend your children ever have!
  14. Zip lock bags, defrost in stainless steel bowel.... make sure you get as much air out of the bag as you can before sealing and freezing. Alternatively double bag with freezer bags...
  15. People here are so clever! I don't get how to do them!!! Would anyone be interested in making one for me? Please? My dog is Genevieve, she is our 'Little G'. Her birth date is 20 March 2010... Thank you in advance!
  16. I use Advance... we had issues early on, but now she is fine. I would stop putting water with it, just give it to her dry. My vet also suggested a little bit of grated cheese with it. I found that when I cut her back to two meals a day (which I did at about 10 weeks), it virtually stopped. If you continue with three meals a day, I would cut back the serve sizes. It just may be that she is consuming too much for her little body to process. If it keeps up, definitely go to the vet, it could be worms or her anal glands In which case, keep an eye on her that she isn't sliding around on her bottom.

    Puppy Teething

Frozen (or refrigerated) carrots!!! That will keep 'em busy!
  18. You're too kind Koalathebear!!! She might be cute but she has been driving me crazy today! I was trying to do my tax and all she wanted to do was play... so I kept stopping to do some trick work with her, just to give her a couple of minutes of attention. Needless to say, my tax isn't finished! She very easily regresses if I have a day of slacking off - whether it be not waiting outside with her to toilet, or not walking her or not doing much trick work. She definitely needs the constant brain stimulation. Genevieve stimulated = sane Wizzle!!!!
  19. When ever we have gone away, we have sourced a house sitter. There are a few websites... if you google house sitters they come up. Basically it won't cost you anything, as the people stay in your home, you can ask them to do chores etc. But they look after your home and pets! There are usually lists of who is available where and when, and you can pick... or make contact and chat. They have police clearances and often they are travelers seeking cheap accommodation. The last couple we used were here on holiday from the States, approx. 50 years of age, lovely people.
  20. I received an email from the site today. To promote their updated site, they are having a sale on select items (including Eagle Pack). Lots of good stuff on the site! When spending more than $35.00 before the end of August, you will be entitled to a further $5.00 discount for entering the keyword 'new' in the checkout. I hope this makes sense! http://animalhealthstore.com.au/
  21. I'm tempted to do this with ours, but..... OH wouldn't be so keen... I think he would cry actually. Limited love and all that!
